Holidays and celebrations are a time for joy, but they can also be a time of disappointment. One of the biggest things that used to stress me out about the holidays was all the expectations I had for myself and for others. I would expect I needed to be happy, laughing, joyful the whole day or the day was a disappointment. And I would expect my family would give me reasons to feel all of those things. It's the holidays, and you are going to be spending more time than usual with the kids, so it's the perfect time to work on being present in your time together. 'Presence' is not one of the well-known love languages, but it's one that can have far-reaching benefits for kids. Studies have shown that children thrive more when they feel like they are getting attention and love from you. It's not always easy to be present, especially when you already have adulting thoughts occupying your brain, but it is do-able. Burnout is defined as a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion. In the workplace it can occur when you feel overwhelmed, overworked, under-appreciated, or without purpose, to name a few. It's becoming more and more talked about and we thought it was time for us to do some of the talking! We hope you take away some key points to start reducing or addressing possible burnout in your life. (And by the way- It's not the same kind of overwhelm, irritability, and anger you get when your team loses the championship game- that's just called sadness.) Burnout is common in professional settings, and prevalent when you are on the hamster wheel of life. Your significant other would be just perfect as long as you could change that one annoying thing about them...and that other thing...and other thing. Maybe she leaves the kitchen cabinets open, or gets home late without texting first, or doesn't put a new toilet paper back on the roll. Annoying and Frustrating traits. Yes. We understand. But if you just keep fuming on the inside about your partner's habit or alternatively if you just blow-up at your partner about it, you won't be helping your relationship, and it's unlikely to make a positive change in your partner.
