In this episode, I do a quick check-in, talk about a new screen printed poster with 25 panels on it...(Take a look at it here: https://pat-higgins.com/25panels), tabling and doing a Wacom demo at MoCCA Arts Fest this next weekend (April 2 and 3), and what kinds of things I usually bring with me to a convention. More info on MoCCA Arts Fest can be found here: MoCCA Arts Fest (moccafest.org) If you're thinking of giving Clip Studio a try, please use my link (www.pat-higgins.com/csp). It'll give me a little kickback, and I'll send you some free custom Clip Studio brushes! Just email me once you get it. As always, you can find my work at Pat-Higgins.com and @phiggins80 on Instagram.
On todays episode, I talk to my friend Scott Sugiuchi. He’s a creative director, a designer, and an illustrator. You can find his work at @ssugiuchi on instagram at scottsugiuchi.com. We talked about garages, why short deadlines are better than open deadlines, and we come to the realization that the greatest artists are all control freak hoarders. As always, you can find my work at Pat-Higgins.com and @phiggins80 on Instagram.
It’s Monday, so I’m a few days late on doing this thing. And that’s part of what today’s episode is all about. Time management and productivity. BUT I’m not talking to anybody but myself today. As I’ve been doing for the past five episodes: Odd numbered episodes are interviews and even ones are solo. I figured time management and being productive would be a good topic for today, since I’m late for last Friday’s episode. I also talk about Wally Wood's 22 Panels That Always Work, and a new project of my own (Because I'm SOOOOO not busy. And I need one more thing to add to my plate.) If you're thinking of giving Clip Studio a try, please use my link (www.pat-higgins.com/csp). It'll give me a little kickback, and I'll send you some free custom Clip Studio brushes! Just email me once you get it. As always, you can find my work at Pat-Higgins.com and @phiggins80 on Instagram.
On today's episode, I talk to my buddy Anthony Carranza: A retro-inspired cartoonist and illustrator, and all-around awesome dude. You may have seen Anthony's work on Instagram under the handle, @PulpAmericana. Anthony is making some great art and is currently working on the comics, Sonic Saturn and Tiki Man, as well as a variant cover for my comic, Pulp Bytes. We talked about our mutual love of Hot Wheels, making retro art, style, and a whole bunch of other stuff. As always, you can find my work at Pat-Higgins.com and @phiggins80 on Instagram.
I’m solo...again! I'll be doing that every other week from here on out. One week with a guest/conversation, one week where I'm talking to myself. Copy, paste, repeat! This week I'm talking about making some changes to the order of the stories in my comic, and how I get my freelance jobs. The two websites that I mention in the episode are Hire an Illustrator and theispot.com. As always, you can find my work at Pat-Higgins.com and @phiggins80 on Instagram.
Today’s guest is Arlo Eisenberg. Best known as a pioneer of aggressive inline skating and an X-Games gold medal winner. In addition to his action sports notoriety, He’s also an accomplished Creative Director, Graphic Designer, and Illustrator. You can find his work on Instagram at @drugreceipts @rxcpts, and @gostbrand. His newest project can be found at drugreceipts.com. Today, Arlo and I shoot the shit about NFTs, and finding a balance in making provocative yet thoughtful work. As always, you can find my work at Pat-Higgins.com and @phiggins80 on Instagram.
I was originally anticipating doing an episode of FAQ every two weeks, but I totally forgot to mention that on the first episode. And if it wasn’t for all of you awesome folks tuning in to episode 1, and your kind emails and messages, I wouldn’t be doing this second episode so early. I’m in the middle of editing an interview that was supposed to be episode 2 (which like I mentioned, TAKES TIME) but I stopped that to do this quick solo episode. One person is easier to clean up and edit than when I’m talking to somebody else. So in this one, I’ll be shooting the shit with myself and answering YOUR Fucking Art Questions!
In this episode, I talk to Jay Stephens. He’s an illustrator and cartoonist living in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. He’s the creator of Discovery Kids's animated series Tutenstein , Cartoon Network's The Secret Saturdays, and the JetCat animated shorts seen on Nickelodeon! He’s also the creator of the comics: Dejects, Dwellings, and Jetcat & Friends. All of which are available at Black Eye Books. You can find them at BlackEye.ca. Jay and had a good time talking about the pandemic, self-publishing, technology, and erasers, among other things.
