As fathers, there are times when we have to think about what we say to our kids. Without context, things can get crazy. This week I wanted to talk about how a recent health scare had me dodging questions from the family.  We all do it for different reasons, tune in IG: @FatherhoodIsLit Merch: #FatherhoodIsLit Gear
Health is one of those things many of us don't pay mind to until we have a big scare!  A big scare got me focused and although it sucks to have happened that way, I'm grateful for it.  This week I needed a FRIEND to lean on to talk about health and the homie Mike Dorsey came through for our, We Do It For The Kids Series! We talked about health, why it matters, why we hide it from people especially our kids, and how to move forward once you know your health needs attention.  IG: @blackfathersnow @FatherhoodIsLit Blog & Show Notes:  No Health, No Dad: We Do It For Our Kids Merch: #FatherhoodIsLit Gear
How do you build a connection with your child? There are millions of ways and for some of us, the connection comes via the love of sneakers. This week I wanted to explore that with my friend Kian Miller, aka Mr. Miller or Miller's Corner.  We talked about securing all the sizes we need, getting our kids to keep their kicks clean, and even the used sneaker market. Kian came through and dropped some gems, just wish he dropped off some Air Mags at the crib for us 🤷🏽‍♂️🤪 IG: @Mr_Miller1 @FatherhoodIsLit Youtube: Miller's Corner Blog & Show Notes: Kicks & Your Kids, The Sole Connection with Kian Miller Merch: #FatherhoodIsLit Gear
When you hear the word deadbeat, you associate it with a deadbeat mother or father but others can be deadbeats as well! This week Mike Dorsey and I talked about dealing with people that show deadbeat tendencies whether they have kids or not! Think of that friend or family member that always says we can't wait to hang with you and the family but never show up!  2 friends talking about life as a father, raw and uncut! Tune In IG: @blackfathersnow @FatherhoodIsLit Blog & Show Notes:   We Do It For Our Kids Merch: #FatherhoodIsLit Gear
Where I'm from the streets taught many of us about guns at an early age! As a father, I'm trying to minimize what my kids learn from the streets and decided that it was up to me to teach them how to PROPERLY handle a gun. Off we went! This week we covered teaching your kids how to handle a gun, why it's important, and how it can help your kids avoid the pitfalls of wanting to be down with those who play with guns. Took your kids shooting before? Hit me up, I would love to hear how you did it so we can hook the fellas up IG: @FatherhoodIsLit Blog & Show Notes: Teaching Your Kids How To Handle A Gun Merch: #FatherhoodIsLit Gear
Around here, real child support isn't just a check we write to the court system. Instead, child support is being there for your child's ups and downs as they grow in life.  This week, Mike Dorsey and I talked about the definition society emphasizes, what we feel real child support looks like and even got into a discussion on weaponizing child support.  Money can finance things but it can never replace the true value REAL FATHERS bring to the table. Keep making YOUR PRESENCE felt!  IG: @blackfathersnow @FatherhoodIsLit Blog & Show Notes:  Child Support: We Do It For Our Kids Merch: #FatherhoodIsLit Gear
When social workers came around, kids in my neighborhood worried and so did some of the parents!  Come to find our Social Workers aren't the boogie man or woman, they actually want you and your KIDS to WIN! This week we sat down with my friend Bas Moreno to find out more about the social working side of things and to learn about some of the things he applies from it as a FATHER of 2 kids himself!  Gems were dropped!   IG: @FatherhoodIsLit  @basmrmsw Blog & Show Notes: Learning from Social Working with Bas Moreno Merch: #FatherhoodIsLit Gear

This week we covered why traditions matter and how they can be huge or small but the real sauce is being there doing it together!  IG: @FatherhoodIsLit Blog & Show Notes: Traditions: It's who you do it with that matters Merch: #FatherhoodIsLit Gear

Resolutions, are they holding you down, or are your actions doing so? Around here we focus on our actions, not on our plans! This week we focused on 3 things I feel can help you and me as we continue to make our presence felt!  Self-care: doubling down on doing things that make us happy and doubling down on the people that don't judge us for doing so Not stressing the things we don't know. We don't have to be perfect, just present Stop assuming our kids know what we knew at their age, and start educating instead. Who's going to take care of your child's most valuable asset, YOU? Self-Care isn't something we dads focus on but should. For this episode, we talk about how the At Home Dads Conference made me realize how important self-care truly is. Hope it encourages you to double down on the things you love and the people that love you for it! #FatherhoodIsLit Show notes: Self-care: Who's There For You
