ElizaBeth Marshall-Smith

So lovely! I grew up in a books and food intertwined home. I thought it was true that, what's important socially at the moment, reflects in stories, and latter books. My mom was born during the Depression, and my dad was a teenager then. It was a time of want for most people, that reflected in 1930's literature. Also, Laura Ingalls Wilder's endless descriptions of food in Farmer Boy, which reflected the winter she and her family almost starved. In 'A Christmas Carol', the middle class is struggling desperately ie: the Cratchits and Scrooge's nephew, sandwiched between the very poor and very rich... All of this is drawn together by the heavy imagery of food bounty or lack. Loved hearing you both talk! Nigella and Laurie Colwin mentions were the lemon slices on the punch!!! Thank you!
