Description

Do you like films? Do you like debating whether a film is a cinematic triumph, or if it’s a big hot mess? Well, we’ve got a just the podcast for you. We aim to settle those raging debates once and for all, as we put Films on Trial
We’re five lads from Liverpool and each week we will act as judge, prosecution, defence and witness, as we recreate a courtroom scenario, and decide whether a much loved (or hated) film should end up on the Hit List or not. Film trivia, quizzes, banter, terrible impressions, musical interludes, and lots of debating.

The Warriors

The Warriors

2020-03-2658:23

This week we're putting The Warriors on trial. Is it a hard hitting cult classic or does it pull it's punches? Gav and Dave are on the defence this time, claiming this is a hidden gem with innovative direction and a strong message about gang violence. Joel and Alex prosecute, arguing that cult status covers a multitude of sins. All this plus impressions of Zeus and a quiz. www.filmsontrial.co.uk
Event Horizon

Event Horizon

2020-03-2259:46

Event Horizon is in the hot seat this week. An epic journey into the unknown or a confused wander into the void? Gav and Dave put their hearts on the line defending this week, arguing that superb performances and an original take on sci-fi horror means it should take its place on our hallowed Hit List. Ausy and Alex prosecute, pointing out the high levels of needless gore and anticlimactic ending. Plus: impressions of Sean Pertwee and a quiz! www.filmsontrial.co.uk
The Irishman

The Irishman

2020-03-1601:00:55

The Irishman is on trial... Just like kissing the Blarney Stone? or more like passing a kidney stone? Please accept some heartfelt apologies! we thought we had released this episode back after the Bone Alone episode... it seemed to get lost in Ausy's birthday celebrations and his unfathomable podast folder structure. All the usual good stuff is here. Hope you enjoy! www.filmsontrial.co.uk
We're back with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Is this a clever reflection on the human condition or should you pay good money to have it erased from you memory? All the usual good stuff returns, xylophones, insults, trivia and the quiz but most importantly the caption contest and the freddo giveaway www.filmsontrial.co.uk
This week we pass judgement on the 2020 Harley Quinn movie, Birds of Prey or one of the other names it has been marketed as. Is it a majestic feathered eagle, or just a bit bald? www.filmsontrial.co.uk
Reanimator

Reanimator

2020-02-2301:07:08

The HP Lovecraft horror classic, Reanimator is on trial this week. Is this a film that should have been left to rest? or is it in everyones interest that it is kept alive? This weeks quiz is all about Lovecraft and loads of other great content... as always. www.filmsontrial.co.uk
1917

1917

2020-01-3101:01:19

This week we put 1917 on trial. Is it a on-shot, war-time, cinematic masterpiece? Or, should it have been left in the trenches? This is the first episode we have recorded in 2020 as we had some major equipment failure over the Christmas period and no money to fix or replace things. So, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE accept our apologies for the slow start to the year and for any dips in sound quality for this episode. It's all new equipment and this recording was actually the first time we opened the box. Anyway, we're back for the new year with most of the usual stuff... impressions, xylphones, insults, a quiz and most importantly our judgement on the film! Hope you all had a great festive period! www.filmsontrial.co.uk
2019: a reflection

2019: a reflection

2020-01-2949:59

After a bumpy ride with our recording equipment we are finally able to publish our fist episode of the year!!! This week we have a quick reflection on the films and events of 2019. We discuss our best and worst films of 2019, and a bumper quiz on things that happened in the movie word during the last year. www.filmsontrial.co.uk
Bone Alone

Bone Alone

2020-01-1436:14

Bone Alone is on trial! Is it delicious calcium based chew with a wonderful marrow filled core or is it just the scraps from the table with a few dregs of somebody elses wonderful meal still attached? Not a delightful image for comparison this week but then it is the middle of January and we're allowed to be a little more negative than usual. :S Bone Alone is not a humourously titiled porn parody it is in fact an homage to the Christmas Classic Home Alone but with dogs. Obviously this was Gav's Christmas film pick. The rest of the episode is filled with: * the usual banter; * witty and sarcastic one liners; * not so witty one-liners; * even less witty out and out bullying; * some xylophone playing; * a quiz; and * plenty of other exciting things to pleasure your listening holes. This episode should have come out back in December, but we struggled to get together to record in the last week of December because we all underestimate just how incredibly difficult it can be to fit everything in between Christmas and New Year. Plus, when it's such a huge film like Bone Alone, you really don't want to just go through the motions. We apologise from the bottom of our dog bowls about the irregular programming over the holiday period and we promise to be more organised in the future.. ;) As ever many many thanks to everyone who hehlps us create the podcast particularly our wonderful graphic artist Winston Tsang (IG: @the_quirks) (even though we didn't send him anything to make for this one... he deserved a week off) www.filmsontrial.co.uk
Scrooged

Scrooged

2020-01-0301:14:501

On the fourth week of Christmas Films on Trial forgot to release an episode... because they were too busy getting in the festive spirit. So, better late than never: Scrooged is on trial this week. Will this put a little love in your heart? or will just the thought it give you a heart attack? I know, I know not my greatest intro blurb but it's January and I'm feeling the full effects of a Christmas of excess. Perhaps a visit by some Christmas spirits will see us all through this dark month. The quiz starts at about 55 minutes and 20 seconds and the rest of the episode is filled with hilarious back and forth, little known facts about things vaguely related to the film, some tremendous xylophone playing and a distinct lack of Joel and Alex but don't worry Mr. Personality and Baldilocks will return in next week's episode. www.filmsontrial.co.uk
The Night Before

The Night Before

2019-12-1901:04:42

On the 3rd Week of Christmas Films on Trial brought to me... a stoner film with a wholesome story. Or is it... We put The Night Before on trial this week. Is this a Yuletide laugh a minute, or more of a boxing day log? Film feels is all about our favourite musician cameo (as themselves). Joel brings a quiz about the film (starting at 49 minutes and 47 seconds... extra accuracy provided to keep Gav happy). All of that and more..(not much more, but more nonetheless). Merry Christmas! www.filmsontrial.co.uk
Love Actually

Love Actually

2019-12-1201:29:04

On the 2nd week of Christmas, Films on Trial watched Love Actually... I don't have any witty follow up lines this week... all suggestions are very welcome. This is a long one. Sorry everyone, some films just really divide the nation. The quiz starts at 1hr and 10 minutes. The shouting starts at 10 minutes.. (or so) Maybe just maybe love will actually be all around us next week. www.filmsontrial.co.uk
A Bad Mom's Christmas

A Bad Mom's Christmas

2019-12-0601:07:37

Christmas time, mistletoe and wine.. wine, tequila, vodka tonic and more wine... We are into Decemnber and we will be judging Christmas films all month. This week we put "A Bad Mom's Christmas" on trial. Is it a Bad Mother... or just plain bad? All the usual shenanigans, this week's quiz starts at 51 minutes exactly! Let the festivities begin! www.filmsontrial.co.uk
The Other Guys

The Other Guys

2019-11-2701:01:19

The Other Guys is on trial this week. Is it a desk pop or a desk poop?... I'm sorry, I've lost my touch with these comparisons.. Normal service to resume next week (I hope). We also talk about our favourite car chases and fill the rest of the time with impressions, arguing, xylophones and, as usual, a quiz. www.filmsontrial.co.uk
Speed

Speed

2019-11-2101:04:50

This week we put the 90s action film Speed on trial. Is it a blast of a bus journey or does it lose its head? I know, I know... not my finest tagline, but it is a great episode! (if I do say so myself). All thge usual shenanigans inside: a quiz, our favourite bomb disposal scenes, crappy xylophone playing, awful impressions and just general laughter and fun. Also, please leave us a review on iTunes or Spotify, or whatever place you listen to our podcast. It really makes a difference to the show and helps us make it better! (Honest)... P.S. the quiz starts at exactly 43 minutes and 15 seconds. www.filmsontrial.co.uk
Street Fighter

Street Fighter

2019-11-1401:06:02

Halloween Horror Month is over! phew! To celebrate we get straight into it with a 90's action film starring Jean Claud Van Dam, Street Fighter. Is it Guille, or is it Bile? We discuss our favourite JCVD films, and Dave is in charge of the quiz this week all about actors who took on a role to please their children, titled "Doin' it for the kids" All that and the usual xylophone playing, terrible accents and all round jovial discussions about the merits (and flaws) of this box office hit. www.filmsontrial.co.uk
It's the final week of Halloween Horror Month! This week's pick is by Ausy. It's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.. but is it Jane Austen, or is it plain Austin... Rubbish impressions, terrible organ playing, a zombie quiz (that starts almost exactly at 46 minutes!) and the trial of course. Give us a like, and a rating and if you're feeling extra generous a review! www.filmsontrial.co.uk
Eli

Eli

2019-10-2401:02:38

In our penultimate episode of Halloween Horror month, Joel has picked Eli (2019) to be put on trial. Is it a break-out Netflix hit, or more scrolling fodder? On top of that we have a quiz based on haunted houses in film, an almost perfect impression of a man, and a discussion of cinema's scariest children. www.filmsontrial.co.uk
Theatre of Blood

Theatre of Blood

2019-10-1756:13

Continuing our halloween horror month Dave has chosen to put the 1973 cult classic Theatre of Blood on trial. An tasty blend of horror and comedy, or an overstuffed ham sandwich? We also discuss our favourite horror death scenes and attempt to go highbrow with a quiz all about Shakespeare adaptations in cinema. Hamlet? Or...Hamlet? www.filmsontrial.co.uk
Mother!

Mother!

2019-10-1055:55

Another week of Halloween Horror Month! This week it's Alex's Pick, "Mother!". Is it Mother Superior, or is it Mother Hubbard? We promise every week to highlight where the quiz is.... so until we work out how to insert chapters we will just tell you here... This week the quiz starts at about 37 minutes. www.filmsontrial.co.uk

The guy who said Mandy is boring must be pulling our leg. Is he just playing Devil's advocate so they can fill up time? What a waste.
