This sermon from James 1:22–25 warns that hearing God’s Word without obeying it leads to spiritual self-deception. James compares a person who hears but does not act to someone who looks in a mirror and immediately forgets what they saw, walking away unchanged. Genuine faith is revealed not by how much we know about Scripture, but by a life that consistently responds to it in obedience. The blessing of God’s Word is found not simply in understanding it, but in persevering in it and living it out.
In this opening message from James 1:1–4, we’re introduced to the remarkable transformation of James—from skeptic and half-brother of Jesus to servant and shepherd of the early church—and the powerful theme of authentic faith. Writing to believers scattered by hardship, James shows us that trials are not interruptions but instruments God uses to produce steadfastness and spiritual maturity. This first sermon sets the tone for the series: real faith doesn’t avoid pressure—it endures it, grows through it, and reveals who we truly belong to.
In this message from James 1, we explore the difference between knowledge and true wisdom—wisdom being the right use of knowledge that begins with fearing the Lord. The sermon wrestles honestly with doubt as a struggle to believe, pointing us to cry out, “Lord, help my unbelief,” and to seek godly counsel. Ultimately, faith is more than belief—it’s action: walking by faith, getting in the wheelbarrow, and trusting the faithful God who has given us His Son.
In James 1:12–18, we see that trials don’t just test our faith—they reveal what we truly love. This message exposes how temptation begins with misplaced desires, how sin always hides a hook beneath the bait, and how death follows when we trust our cravings more than God’s promises. Yet James also reminds us that our Father is unchanging, generous, and the giver of every good gift—including new life through His Word. Learn how to fight temptation immediately, ruthlessly, and consistently by loving God more than the bait.
Life’s trials reveal what we truly love, and temptation often begins with our own desires—not our circumstances. In this sermon from James 1:12–18, Pastor Blake shows how steadfastness is a matter of loving God above all else, recognizing the bait of sin, and trusting Him even when life is hard. Learn how every good gift comes from a faithful God and how to stand firm in the midst of life’s storms.
When life feels loud and uncertain, James reminds us that spiritual maturity is revealed not by what we know, but by how we respond when God’s Word corrects us. In James 1:19–21, we’re called to listen with humility, lay aside what hardens our hearts, and receive the implanted Word with a posture that says, “Lord, You’re right—shape me.”
