In Ephesians 2, Paul gives us our gospel identity in three movements: who we once were before Christ, who we now are because of Christ and what we are now called to do for Christ. We were dead in sin, but because of God’s great love towards us, we are now demonstrations of His grace and have been deployed for good works.
