Jane revisits the topic of one of our most downloaded episodes here: drinking around children. If you've ever felt a niggling voice questioning the effect of your alcohol consumption alongside your role as a caregiver, then this Fast Fizz supports you in considering reasons to step away from the bottle. Jane takes a child's perspective to reflect on the impact booze has - whatever their age, and whether they see you drink or not. There's no judgement here - just advocating for a lifestyle that doesn't model and condition our children to drink. You deserve to parent without the distraction of alcohol, and to be present for the few years that we're privileged to raise the next generation. The Domino Effect

The Domino Effect

2024-10-2248:36

When we drink alcohol regularly or heavily, the effects can be felt by many different people and areas of our lives... but likewise, once we stop drinking and get free from the addictive grip, positive benefits also create a domino effect around us. From physical, mental and financial improvements, these can lead to people having the confidence to apply for a promotion or better job, to step away from unhealthy relationships, join clubs and take up hobbies that bring joy and new social connections... it's a wonderful thing to experience! Everybody's sober journey looks different, and sometimes that domino effect is not huge, fast or dramatic. But in this episode, Jane and Ruth look at how *any* positive 'wins' should be celebrated, in a life with less fizz, and more free!Find the Fizz Free podcast for alcohol-free support on most streaming platforms, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram and X Hosted on Acast. Let's explore how the fear of worrying what other people will think about your drinking, can hold you back in tackling your relationship with alcohol. Why should it matter if others discover how much you've been drinking? Will they think less of you? Do some people's opinions matter more than others? Does it impact your reputation, and can that recover or improve over time? Does it matter? Your hosts Clare and Jane consider all of these aspects, celebrity examples and their own experiences in how people's perceptions have factored into them getting sober. Thanks for listening to Fizz free - find us on most streaming platforms, Facebook, X and Instagram Hosted on Acast. Drinking & Parenting

2024-04-1001:03:021

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs in the world... with no handbook! It's rewarding yet exhausting, and 'Mummy Wine Culture' promotes that alcohol is the perfect reward for surviving another long day. Your hosts Ruth, Jane and Clare have five children between them... and drank when the kids were younger. In this episode they share their honest experiences of alcohol in the early years - slurry bedtime stories, groggy hangover days and the Tooth Fairy not showing up, to name a few. They look at the wide-ranging benefits children AND parents experience from removing alcohol... increased patience, consistency and life-expectancy, plus reduced risk, harm and neglect. The physical, psychological, financial and societal positives are truly staggering! Your hosts also reflect on the younger generation's perception of alcohol, and hopes for a more sober-friendly future.Find Fizz Free on most streaming platforms, Youtube Facebook, Instagram and X Hosted on Acast. Day Counts

Day Counts

2024-03-2134:42

Counting alcohol-free days can be a very motivating tool when reducing alcohol consumption... seeing those numbers creep up keeps many people on track, and there are several apps on the market that display the linked benefits of calories and money saved. But does counting the days mean that it's still a conscious struggle to live alcohol-free? In this episode, Jane and Clare discuss why some people may find it a pointless or demotivating task: how does it take account of slips? Should the tally always return to zero, even if it's one day of drinking after several months? Is day-counting more of an online thing to be shared? And... when do you STOP counting - consciously, and in days? We'd love to know your thoughts! Find Fizz Free on most streaming platforms, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram and X. Hosted on Acast. Intervention

Intervention

2024-03-1053:57

An intervention can be a very effective - yet uncomfortable and difficult - way of challenging somebody's behaviour that has become harmful or unacceptable. Significant interventions usually involve strong feelings and vulnerability on both sides. They need to be highly planned and carefully delivered... with the risk of no desired change. In this searingly personal and honest episode, Jane shares with Clare an intervention letter that she received... which eventually led to her tackling her relationship with alcohol. They talk through how it felt to have heavy drinking behaviour challenged, the ensuing response, and steps towards change... as well as recapping on the relationship improvements since. A useful episode in in examining how intervention CAN lead to sobriety.Find Fizz Free on most streaming platforms, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram and X Hosted on Acast. Rules

Eating's cheating... drink a pint of water before bed... stick to clear spirits... stop drinking by 11pm... Ruth and Jane explore different ways people attempt to 'police the poison,' and stay in control of their drinking. Do any of them work? Do marketing companies exploit this concept? If alcohol rules are consuming alot of headspace, perhaps it's time to assess that relationship.
