in terms of entertainment no match in world football was better this weekend than this one. In fact, I would argue with the best match I’ve seen in months from an entertainment standpoint. (I am not confusing, entertainment, with quality by the way). When coupled with today’s Gainbridge Super League match between Carolina and Jacksonville. Winter Park-native and Stetson grad Charles Ahl has made a big impression in his rookie season in the USL Championship. Ahl was the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year while at Stetson and spent several seasons in the Orlando City SC youth setup. Ahl played for the UPSL National Champion AS Frenzi side in 2023 along with Yan Diomande who now features in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig. Ahl scored the equalizer in a nationally-televised ESPN match for the Riverhounds against Miami in July on the last kick of the match and has now become a regular for the Hounds. He scored this past week in the 2-1 to Tampa Bay at Al Lang Stadium. We dive deep into Charles career progression and development to this point including talking about playing in Florida, what its like to latch on with a professional club and the impact of a coaching-legend like Bob Lilley on his development.
