CLIFFDIVER are back and you're gonna be in trouble! I'm so stoked to bring you today my second episode with one of my favorite bands, this time featuring the new voice, and addition to the band, Briana Wright. She, along with co-vocalist Joey Duffy, are giving us the rundown on their debut album, Exercise Your Demons. We of course hit on bringing a second vocalist to the band and how everything just clicked together with it. With deeply personal lyrics being part of CLIFFDIVER's signature style there was definitely some opening up to each other that needed to be done, but once they realized the combined story they were telling they were off the the races. We discuss losing yourself fully to the band and your bandmates, applying your own value to others' lyrics, and the light within some of the darkest moments on the album. Today I'm talking to Posture & The Grizzly for the first new episode of Fly On The Call in a hot minute! The band has always flown a bit under the radar, while gathering an extremely dedicated fan base, but they are clear: they're in it for the long haul. We're discussing taking your time to allow music to happen organically, the setbacks, triumphs, and, of course, the process of their self titled LP 3. The band is wrapping up a tour with two Virginia shows, as DC show, and Philly in the next few days so if you're in the area and looking to hit up a sweet punk show, they've got you covered! Pictoria Vark's The Parts I Dread is one hell of a debut. Intentional, spacious, and intimate, this bass-centered music doesn't quite have a singular point of comparison - but that just makes it even better. Our conversation hits on this unique space her music fills, using additional instrumentation to further storytelling, balancing her solo work while being a hired bassist for touring bands, and a whole lot more. Proper. have done it again - they dropped the best album of their career with The Great American Novel. Bringing in issues of identity, race, sex, and life in the 21st century this record is an in your face assessment of Erik Garlington's inner thoughts. And he's returning for the first time since the very first episode of Fly On The Call to break down the album, writing with Dan Campbell of The Wonder Years, being difficult to work with, being in a band that does exactly what they want, and a whole lot more. Check it out now, along with the other new episode that dropped today with UK punk band Brutalligators. For the first of two new episodes today we're hopping over to the UK to talk to Brutalligators. They're a punk band with an edge and a healthy dose of emo, in the vein of PUP, Spanish Love Songs, or Latterman. Their debut LP, This house is too big, this house is too small, is not your average break-up record - it's a cohesive journey through grief, mental health, inclusion, and identity. So give it a spin, enjoy the episode, and check out the other new episode where the very first guest of Fly On The Call, Proper., returns! Absolution, out tomorrow, is an absolute heater and a level-up for Riverby in just about every way. From changes in sonic palette, to a more collaborative process, and working with Jim Wert in the studio Absolution is all about making the music the band wants and making it sound the best it can. We're talking all that as well as accidentally creating a concept album, the plans for the Riverby cinematic universe, and more. Today is all about James Barrett's A Series Of... Mostly Nothing. Believe me when I say this album is HUGE. Like room-filling, all-surrounding, epic rock music. We're talking about the creation of this sound, the environment the album was recorded in, throwing yourself fully into your music, and a whole lot more. For the next two weeks there will be new episodes of Fly On The Call on both Wednesday and Thursday so I'll catch you back here tomorrow. Today's conversation is with Jaypitts - the first hip hop artist to come on the show. As a jack of all content trades, he's worked for years to not just create music he is passionate about, but also find an audience who connects with him on a deep level. Whether it's been music, TikTok, YouTube, or any other path, he has sought a way to use it to his benefit. Now he is in a position where he has reached a level of success that allows him to step back a bit and focus more on his role as an artist. We're talking all about his journey, his new single, "Butterflies", and all the exciting plans for 2022. Raccoon Tour's The Dentonweaver is boisterous, theatrical, and a long time coming. With extensive lore, multiple re-records, and plenty more multimedia storybuilding the in the works, you can tell this is a special project. Today on Fly On The Call we're peeling back the layers on how this album became so time consuming and meticulously crafted, the growth made throughout its creation, and working with label I Surrender Records to shape what it became. Perennial returns - both musically and to the podcast! After a grueling wait their sophomore album, In The MIdnight Hour, has finally seen the light of day (or should I say the dark of night?). The episodes delves into how the album has changed since fall of 2019, building their own world, and making a record that isn't limited by any one genre. saint judas is a newly collaborative solo project that falls somewhere on the folky, vibey side of emo. Their new EP, a terrible year, builds on the previous releases while showing a side of the band that could not have come to be without the DIY community. That, along with music as a form for therapy, is a main focus of this conversation, which I think you'll agree is a special one. Sincere Engineer are a punk band at their core. They have all the energy, grit, and emotions that draw people to this type of music. Today we're talking about sharing heart on your sleeve emotions, crafting a loud punk record, touring, and more. Fly On The Call is coming back at you with a conversation with Jail Socks! Coming Down was one of my most anticipated records of 2020 and while it wasn't 100% what I expected, it is still a great record. Today I'm talking to Jail Socks about their new sonic direction, the themes and major moments throughout the album, collaboration in the studio, and more. Welcome one and all back to Fly On The Call! It has been so long and I have missed you so much, but 2022 is going to be an amazing year both for music and for the podcast. We're kicking things off with my first ever label interview! Today I'm talking to Josh Higgins of Refresh Records. This conversation is a few months old, but does a great job of highlighting the fantastic year of releases the label had is 2021, building a community around their music, and so much more. Refresh is 100% a label to watch so be sure to stay tuned for all they have to come. Welcome to Fly On The Call! This is your place to learn more about your favorite bands or discover brand new ones. Each week features a Candid Conversation on Music, focusing on deep dives that take a natural path through genuine passion and curiosity. I'm your host, Scott Fugger, and my goal is to make you just as big of a fan of these musicians as I am. I talk to bonafide rock stars like The Wonder Years and Silverstein, artists destined to be the next big thing like Meet Me At the Altar and Bartees Strange, and bands who are doing it all themselves making some of the best music you may have never heard. We finally made it, it's time to celebrate! And how better to mark the one hundred episode and two year milestone than with a conversation with one of my favorite current artists? And a new theme song he composed to boot! That's right, today I'm talking once again to Jhariah, who in the last year has come incredibly far. The recently released, A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO FAKING YOUR DEATH, puts an exclamation point at the end of his current era collecting his newest singles as well as reimaginings of some old favorites. We're diving into how this release strategy successfully grew his fanbase, collaboration and world building, taking vocal lessons, and how the new Fly On The Call theme song came together. We are here, the final double digit episode of Fly On The Call! Before we hit episode 100 and the two year anniversary, I wanted to take a quick second to talk about the origins of the show, and my goals for it, reflect on the past two years, and talk a little about the future. I hope you don't mind me taking a brief moment to get corny on the main. Thank you for listening, for supporting this podcast as well as the bands I speak to, and for coming along for the ride - it means so much to me. Tomorrow will be episode 100, featuring an interview with and brand new theme song from the one and only Jhariah! A Tiger Made of Lightning released one of my songs of 2020 with their debut single "exhausted". It encompassed what so many of us were feeling, with a strong, passionate sound, and without pulling any punches. At the same time there was an undercurrent of positivity that served as a reminder that not everything was shit. That positivity is brought even further in the follow-up single and the soon to be released debut EP, "It's Chaos, Be Kind." Today we're discussing the project's origin, the message, the transition from solo project to full band, and what's to come. Arms Like Roses came together in an almost spur of the moment way and even the band themselves are almost surprised at how far they've come. Their debut EP, Get Some Sleep, melds classic emo and post-hardcore sounds with a plethora of other genres, eventually leading to a more concise vision for LP1, which is currently being finished up. The band just released an acoustic follow-up EP, Past Midnight, and have hit the ground running now that they are able to play shows again. We're talking about their initial formation, the effect the pandemic had on their writing process, and much more. Telethon are back! I say this both referring to the fact that they were one of the first guests on Fly On The Call, way back in episode two, and that they just released their ripper of a new record, Swim Out Past The Breakers. For those unfamiliar with the band, they are a hard rockin', poppin', genre swappin' good ole time! The new album has plenty of features, flourishes that couldn't have been added with a standardized studio experience, and much more to keep your ears busy.  Telethon: Website | Spotify | Twitter | Instagram | Bandcamp House of the Future, Pt. 3 Fly On The Call is brought to you by Sound Talent Media and promoted in conjunction with The Alternative.
