On this episode of Focal Point, Mike Glover and Andy Stumpf discuss a new anti-red flag proposal in Texas. From the story featured here: https://dallasexpress.com/state/texas-proposes-anti-red-flag-act-to-safeguard-second-amendment-rights/ A new proposed bill in Texas would block state and local entities from recognizing and enforcing extreme risk protective orders, commonly referred to as red flag laws. Red flag laws allow law enforcement—per a judge’s order—to confiscate firearms from anyone they believe is at risk of committing a crime. State Rep. Briscoe Cain, who authored the measure, issued a statement saying, the bill “is about standing up for the constitutional rights of Texans, ensuring that citizens are not stripped of their rights without due process. This bill is a clear message that Texas will not bow to federal overreach and will always protect the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution.” Focal Point is an IRONCLAD Original Learn more about your ad choices. Today on Focal Point, Mike Glover and Andy Stumpf discuss new proposed rules that could crack down on 3D printed "ghost guns." From ABC News 4 NY: Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., on Friday called on New York Gov. Kathy Hochul to close state “loopholes” which allegedly enabled Luigi Mangione to use a “ghost gun” in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. “The probable use of a 3D-printed ghost gun by Luigi Mangione to assassinate Brian Thompson, the CEO of United Healthcare, underscores the need for a complete and comprehensive prohibition of ghost guns in New York,” Rep. Torres wrote in a letter to the governor. “The explosion of ghost guns onto the streets of New York and into the hands of dangerous people has led to an unprecedented crisis in public safety ... I am respectfully calling upon you as Governor to include in your executive budget proposal legislation that closes the manufacturing loophole in ghost gun laws and closes the ghost gun loophole in gun manufacturing laws. No stone can be left unturned in the New York’s fight against gun violence, which has been compounded by the proliferation of privately made firearms.” https://abcnews4.com/news/nation-world/ny-democrat-grills-hochul-over-luigi-mangione-alleged-ghost-gun-new-york-ritchie-torres-nyc-kathy-hochul-unitedhealthcare-ceo-second-amendment-guns-murder From Scientific American: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/luigi-mangiones-alleged-ghost-gun-and-other-antisurveillance-tech-explained/ A criminal complaint in Pennsylvania describes the weapon in Mangione’s possession as a black 3D-printed pistol, loaded with nine-millimeter rounds in a Glock magazine, with a handle made of plastic and a slide and a threaded barrel made of metal. The complaint notes Mangione was carrying a 3D-printed silencer as well. On today’s episode of Focal Point, Mike Glover and Andy Stumpf discuss a new report that outlines what happened last January, when two SEALs died during an operation off the coast of Somalia. From the ABC News story referenced in the episode ( https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/how-2-elite-navy-seals-drowned-anti-terror-mission-somalia-report/story?id=114682399 ): Two U.S. Navy SEALs drowned during a nighttime boat raid off the coast of Somalia last January because their personal gear was too heavy, causing them to sink almost immediately upon hitting the water, according to the results of a recently-released military investigation. The two SEALs were identified as Nathan Gage Ingram, 27, who was posthumously promoted to Special Warfare Operator 1st Class, and Christopher Chambers, who was posthumously promoted to the rank of Chief Special Warfare Operator. "The root cause of these drownings was a lack of a fail-safe and layered defense to provide buoyance ... whether to overcome the weight of equipment, fatigue from extreme physical exertion and resultant inability to tread water, or an injury suffered during the boarding process," the Navy concluded. Producer’s Note: A few days after this episode was a record, a federal judge ruled that the law requiring the Ten Commandments to be put on display in Louisiana was “unconstitutional on its face”. However, the AP notes: “Attorney General Elizabeth Murrill said she disagreed with the ruling and said her office would ask the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans to quickly stay the ruling pending appeal. Murrill said that by law, [the] ruling can only apply to five local school boards named as defendants in the lawsuit — in East Baton Rouge, Livingston, St. Tammany, Orleans and Vernon parishes.” The pending law states that classrooms must display the King James Bible version of the Ten Commandments in a large, readable font, along with a “context statement” that explains that the 10 Commandments "were a prominent part of American public education for almost three centuries.” Focal Point is an IRONCLAD Original. In this episode of Focal Point, Mike Glover and Andy Stumpf discuss the case of Jordan Goudreau. From THE ARMY TIMES report: https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2024/09/05/former-green-beret-behind-failed-venezuela-raid-released-pending-trial/ This September, a federal judge ordered the release of a former U.S. Green Beret indicted in connection with a failed 2020 coup attempt against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, rejecting arguments he would flee while awaiting trial on weapons smuggling charges. Jordan Goudreau was arrested in July after a four-year investigation into the amphibious raid that ended with several combatants killed by Venezuelan security forces and two of his U.S. Army Special Forces buddies locked away in a Maduro government prison. Back in 2020, Goudreau attempted to supply and plan a mission that he hoped would end in President Nicolás Maduro’s arrest. However, two boats carrying two former American Green Berets and 60 Venezuelan dissidents were intercepted. Their failed plan was to raid military bases in the country and ignite a rebellion. The plot, exposed by The Associated Press, was carried out by a ragtag group of Venezuelan army deserters whom Goudreau allegedly helped arm and train in neighboring Colombia. Goudreau immediately claimed responsibility for “Operation Gideon”, but said he was acting in concert with Venezuela’s opposition to protect democracy. Goudreau has no criminal record and was a three-time Bronze Star recipient in Iraq and Afghanistan. Focal Point is an IRONCLAD Original. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Today on Focal Point, Andy Stumpf and Mike Glover discuss the censorship controversies involving X and Elon Musk and the government of Brazil, as well as Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, and the federal government. From THE NATIONAL REVIEW: A panel of judges on Brazil’s supreme court upheld a ruling by Justice Alexandre de Moraes that instituted a total ban on the social-media site X. Under the terms of the order, internet service providers in Brazil cannot act as a conduit for X’s traffic, app stores in Brazil are obliged to delete the X app from their catalogues, and the use of VPNs or other traffic rerouting tools to circumvent the prohibition carries a fine of nearly $9,000 per day. The proximate cause of Brazil’s ban was that X’s owner, Elon Musk, had refused to comply with a court order requiring him to remove certain accounts that had been accused of spreading “misinformation.” Focal Point is an IRONCLAD Original. Today on Focal Point, Mike Glover and Andy Stumpf discuss the case surrounding the media company, Tenet. From The AP: “An indictment … alleges a media company linked to six conservative influencers — including well-known personalities Tim Pool, Dave Rubin and Benny Johnson — was secretly funded by Russian state media employees to churn out English-language videos that were “often consistent” with the Kremlin’s “interest in amplifying U.S. domestic divisions in order to weaken U.S. opposition” to Russian interests, like its war in Ukraine. The U.S. Justice Department doesn’t allege any wrongdoing by the influencers, some of whom it says were given false information about the source of the company’s funding. Instead, it accuses two employees of RT, a Russian state media company, of funneling nearly $10 million to a Tennessee-based content creation company for Russia-friendly content.” Focal Point is an IRONCLAD Original. Recently, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange returned to his home country of Australia after spending years fighting legal charges that initially stemmed from the release of sensitive footage on his site Wikileaks. The videos were provided to him by a former United States Army intelligence analyst, who now goes by Chelsea Manning, in 2010. The story is similar to the case of former NSA intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, who publically disclosed the extent of the agency's global surveillance programs, which often involved cooperation with telecom companies. Today, on Focal Point, an IRONCLAD Original, Andy Stumpf and Mike Glover discuss these cases, the military and intelligence communities, operational security, and the role that whistleblowers can play in holding institutions accountable.
