This is an Encore Presentation of my April 2023 interview with William Lee Golden, longtime member of The Oak Ridge Boys, the famous gospel and country quartet. He’s also the leader of The Goldens along with his sons, and he’s an accomplished painter and photographer as well. William led the Oak’s transition from gospel to country and they’re now one of the most award-winning groups in country music. They’ve sold over 40 million records and have more than a dozen number 1 singles and over 30 Top 10 hits. Karen LeFrak is a celebrated Composer, Pianist and Children’s Book Author. She has composed a number of moving music scores, including “Sleepover At The Museum, which have been presented around the world by the NY Philharmonic, National Symphony, American Ballet Theater and the Mariinsky Ballet. Her newest work is called “Miami Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra” and features World Class guitarist Sharon Isbin. Each was previously a guest on the podcast.Peter Noone - Herman of Herman’s Hermits. They had a spectacular run of hits including “No Milk Today”, “There’s A Kind Of A Hush”, “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter”, “I’m Henry VIII” and their first smash “I’m Into Something Good”.Rod Argent was the keyboard wizard of The Zombies. The band had two massive hits in the ‘60s, “She’s Not There” and “Tell Her No”.Allan Clarke was the lead singer for The Hollies, another band that had a string of hits including “On A Carousel”, “Pay You Back With Interest” and “Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress”.Jim McCarty was the drummer for The Yardbirds, whose hits included “For Your Love” and “Heartful Of Soul”. The band had three famous guitarists in succession: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page.Billy J. Kramer was the lead singer of Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas. They were managed by Brian Epstein, the manager of The Beatles, and were given several Lennon/McCartney songs to record including “Do You Want To Know A Secret”, “I Call Your Name” and “Bad To Me”.Kenney Jones was the drummer for the Small Faces of “Itchycoo Park” fame, then the Faces starring Rod Stewart, and then joined The Who after the death of Keith Moon.John Lodge was the bassist and a singer and composer for The Moody Blues. Their big hits included “Go Now” and “Nights In White Satin”. This is an Encore Presentation of my July 2023 interview with Jeremy Swift, who shot to worldwide fame as Leslie Higgins - the Communications Director for the AFC Richmond football club - in the hit series “Ted Lasso”. He was nominated for an Emmy Award. Before Lasso he was in films such as “Mary Poppins Returns” along with Dick Van Dyke, “Oliver Twist” directed by Roman Polanski, and “Gosford Park” directed by Robert Altman. Their 1958 million selling hit “26 Miles Across The Sea” made them into international pop stars. The song influenced Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and inspired Jimmy Buffett. The Preps were featured on the Ed Sullivan Show and had a recurring role in “Ozzie And Harriet”. They even co-starred in the movie “Gidget” with Sandra Dee. In total they had 8 Gold Singles and 3 Gold Albums. They dominated the charts in the 1970s with their album “Breakfast In America” which sold over 20 million copies. Fred Lipsius, the saxophonist and an arranger for Blood Sweat & Tears, another one of the greatest bands of the modern era, which introduced the horn section into Rock ‘n Roll. Their self-titled second album won the Grammy for Record Of The Year in 1970. Fred arranged several of their biggest hits including “Spinning Wheel” and “Hi De Ho”. Bob Reynolds, the saxophonist for Snarky Puppy, one of the great bands of this era They are a Jazz Fusion band that’s won 5 Grammys. And Ada Rovatti, an Italian born saxophonist who has performed with Aretha Franklin, Joe Bonamassa, Mike Stern, Herbie Hancock and The Brecker Brothers Reunion Band.My featured song is “Metro Shuffle”, featuring Mindi Abair, from the album The PGS Experience by my band Project Grand Slam. He’s also a lifelong friend of and collaborator with Steve Martin and played on his hit song “King Tut” and also on their Grammy winning bluegrass album. He’s recorded over 40 albums including four that went Platinum and 5 Gold. His latest album is a spoken word record called “The Newsman”.
