Grey Hearts Denim is a Kelowna, BC based fashion brand specializing in reworking in locally sourced denim and workwear. I spoke to owners Sean and Paul about a myriad of different things such as how they survived 2020 as a new company, what they did to support Black Lives Matter, and much more! They're a very smart couple of guys with excellent business sense, a strong eye for fashion and great ethics backing their brand which is why I wanted to spotlight them here. Enjoy! Deus is an audio engineer and friend whose been working with me on the podcast since Episode 50. We did the interview in his brand new studio "The Vault Recording Studio".  I'm crazy excited about this interview because my boy has been working so hard for so long to get his business up and running and it's finally done! We spoke about his journey getting into how he got into the world of music and what his role of audio engineer is. Okanagan Lifestyle is a brand owned by Jaclyn and Ryan Robertson. It was created as a way to connect their community and establish a celebration for the young and old in the beautiful Okanagan. Its was obvious to me from their immense popularity and philanthropy that they express a deep gratitude for what the Okanagan has provided to them. Jaclyn was very kind, smart and a delight to speak with. We spoke about how she connected to the region, her journey as a mother and much more. Bede is the owner of Designed by Bede. A fashion brand inspired by her love of the past with modern touches of street wear and ethical production. I love supporting underground brands like these. I feel like I can express myself better with unique pieces that I don’t think many other people have. I also prefer to not support fast fashion as best I can. Lastly it feels good to know the clothing was made by one person putting in their skill and time to make a piece. It’s like wearing art. Bede is no exception. She makes high quality one of one apparel meaning you’ll be able to express yourself however you’d like. She’s smart and has great ethics behind her work. I hope you enjoy the episode and please check out her page. Chris is a retired Geologist and the owner of Gneiss Climbing. He opened up the gym in 2016 and built it up to be one of the most popular climbing gyms in the city. Episode 55 - Edge

Episode 55 - Edge

2020-04-2742:14

I’ve been asking Edge to be on the show since 2018 and he always said not until 2020. We finally got it to happen and I’m so excited to share our interview. I’ve seen him perform countless times and honestly I’ve always loved his sets. Edge had explosiveness which was very contagious and with his charisma commanded the room. In today’s episode he and I talk about how he met Nate Le, his influences and much more. This was a blast and I’m thrilled to have had him on the show. “If you didn’t want anything then why’d you even start.” Zoe Marie Welch wrote this in her song Turn on the Lights. It’s a light and bubbly soul/R&B track about her experience with a past lover. It’s an honest reflection of her experience which many people I’m sure could relate to. Her music reflects her personality and believe me it was a delight to interview her. We spoke about her upbringing, her experiences with love and much more! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did ✌️🌼 Don't forget to follow us to know when the newest episodes release YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOMopqC1CF95kuJLLiMhXDw?sub_confirmation=1 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fortheculturecanada/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FortheCultureCanada/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/4theCultureCA Listen to Zoe's music Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/ca/artist/zoe-marie-welch/1477305993 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/3zcrB8lOU6YzvPoRGlIM56  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/zoemariewelch/?hl=en  Website: https://www.zoemariewelchmusic.com/
If you’re a photographer/videographer/model/etc in the Kelowna area you know who @fowfow4 is. You’ve seen his work and if you haven’t then you clearly haven’t been involved enough. He is a professional photographer & founder of the vastly popular Camera’s and Coffee. It's a local meet up where gearheads, enthusiast and professional photographers of all types meet up. I’ve been wanting to interview Mitchell for a hot minute and I’m happy to finally sit down for an hour and chat. We talk about his beginnings, why he created C&C and how he keeps the spirit alive during the times of social isolation. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Episode 52 - 538st.

2020-03-3052:34

538st. is a DOPE, young, up and coming hip-hop group from Kelowna, BC who are very different from what you'd typically think of as a hip-hop group. They're not a group of rappers, it's a full band with a frontman who raps. If you've ever seen them live or caught one of their live videos you'd know how vibrant and charismatic they are.  I had a chance to speak to Waseem (drums), Austen (bass/vocals), and brothers Sam (lead vocals) & Jake (guitar/vocals).  They were an absolute delight to have on the show and I hope you enjoy it! This is the second part of a two part episode with the Flip Club. Talon broke down his own walls and learned how to finally be himself. Cody has just been fired from his job and left his life-long connection to mormonism. They were both at a critical point in time and this episode chronicles the creation of the Flip Club. Enjoy!    The Flip Club is a parkour/trampoline gym created by Cody McAllister (left) & Talon Keener (right) as a safe space for kids and adults of all skill levels to build confidence and grow their self esteem.    Don't forget to follow us to know when the newest episodes release YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOMopqC1CF95kuJLLiMhXDw?sub_confirmation=1   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fortheculturecanada/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FortheCultureCanada/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/4theCultureCA   Check out their website: https://theflipclub.ca/   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_flip_club
The Flip Club is a parkour/trampoline gym created by Cody McAllister (left) & Talon Keener (right) as a safe space for kids and adults of all skill levels to build confidence and grow their self esteem.  In this episode, we talk about how they went from being under-appreciated after creating one of the most successful businesses in their old gym and eventually quitting/being fired. This forced Talon on a journey of self discovery after moving to a completely different career path which allowed him and Cody to eventually create Flip Club.  Don't forget to follow us to know when the newest episodes release YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOMopqC1CF95kuJLLiMhXDw?sub_confirmation=1 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fortheculturecanada/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FortheCultureCanada/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/4theCultureCA Check out their website: https://theflipclub.ca/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_flip_club
Episode 50 - Deepak

Episode 50 - Deepak

2020-03-2310:23

Hi! Let me introduce myself. My name is Deepak and I run For the Culture Canada. I wanted to address why I took a break from the show, why it exists and where it's going. This is a short and sweet episode and I hope you enjoy it! Thank you Don't forget to follow us to know when the newest episodes release YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOMopqC1CF95kuJLLiMhXDw?sub_confirmation=1 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fortheculturecanada/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FortheCultureCanada/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/4theCultureCA
Episode 49 - Kevin Kishor

Episode 49 - Kevin Kishor

2019-04-1501:51:45

“I always say the first part is knowing who you are and if you don’t know who you are you gotta figure who you are.”   Kevin Kishor is a brand/talent developer, relationship coach and author. I sat down with him to discuss his latest book titled “Chocolate Covered French Fries” which is a practical guide for all types of relationships. We also had an open discussion on his past, the current cultural climate, and much more. This was by far one of the most fun and dynamic podcasts I have done in a long time. I hope you enjoy this special 2 hour feature!
“I don’t care what you think. You’re 13-14 you’re not doing anything. Look at me and look at you. What are you doing playing video games and doing nothing? I’m actually doing shit and that’s straight for the haters. I’m 14 making it. By the time I’m in grade 10 I know I’m gonna be rich as fuck” Young Ivany is a 14 year old rapper based out of North Vancouver. He caught my eye every time he performed because I remember how awful and cringy 14 year olds were when I was his age. But he was fantastic! Totally capable of rocking an entire show no problem. This kid has some legit talent. I chose this quote because it reminds me of when I was young. People were dicks and they were always hating on shit that was different. Ivany is doing something different and his youthful aspirations to be rich in grade 10 came across as wonderfully endearing. He’s a very likeable person and it was a total blast to finally sit down with him. We were joined by @kasaievents founder @miguel.ambrosia and his friend @ethan. We spoke about Ivany’s upbringing, his favourite ice cream and much more! Enjoy
Episode 47 - GasPakkTyler

Episode 47 - GasPakkTyler

2019-03-1101:18:22

“There’s so many new words & so many definitions and so many new ways on how you can write. It’s so complex, intellectual and it’s amazing. Wow how could we in mankind come up with all these crazy ass words? You know how big the Oxford Dictionary is? That shit SLAPS.”  Obviously GasPakkTyler is a character. He was explaining his love for the english language here. He is a hip-hop artist striving to be an English teacher. We spoke to him about his upbringing in being the only black person in a predominantly white town, how his English teacher changed his life and much more. This was very fun interview and we joined by Indigo & Keilan. Enjoy!
“They (films) went deeper than just entertainment for most people. They would impact politics and all of this kind of stuff. Going back to my childhood would be just immersing myself into a different universe.”  Drake Richardson is a young filmmaker who (at the time of the interview) maintained a low profile but managed to work with bbno$ and made the music video ’tony thot’ which garnered over 1.4 million views. In the interview we talk about a documentary he is making on the Kelowna music scene, his social media strategy and his desire to pursue fashion. Enjoy!
Episode 45 - Crim

Episode 45 - Crim

2019-02-2501:18:38

“We’re (Kasai) not doing it because we want clout. None of us give a fuck about that. We really just love making music. I don’t fuck with someone if I can’t enjoy my studio time with them.” Crim is a rapper and one of the founders of the large artist collective Kasai. He is from East Van and in this spontaneous episode we spoke about his familial musical history, his plans to buy an island for Kasai, his love of indian food and much more. He is an incredibly driven individual willing to sacrifice everything for his craft and it was an absolute pleasure speaking to him. I was exhausted but I’m happy to have done this interview. Enjoy!
Episode 44 - NEXT$IDE

Episode 44 - NEXT$IDE

2019-02-1801:01:52

“I’m making this music through my experience but everyone kinda goes through the same shit. So I just want people to know they’re not alone in their battles. Someone else is there feeling the same thing. You can have that sense of not being alone because being alone sucks.”  NEXT$IDE is (at the time of interview) a Kelowna based artist, show promoter, Kasai Collective member and overall hard worker. We spoke about his at the time recent break-up, what it means to “make it”, and how he and Dead Rose created the music studio in their high school which is used by students now to this day. We were joined by Crim, Raiderboy, and Dead Rose for this interview. Enjoy!
“I want my music to connect with people. I want people to relate to the things I am talking about and that’s the whole goal. I know when a lot of people get into the rap game they’re just like I’m gonna get all this money and these bitches but that doesn’t matter at the end of the day. What matters is do people connect to what you’re saying?” Grizzy Wynter is a Vancouver based rapper who raps about the black experience, and his hard ships growing up in East Van which included violence and selling drugs. He spoke to me over Skype about his past, his music and his experience as a client of Growth X Media. Enjoy!
