Description

"Fore Play" is a weekly podcast by common golfers, for common golfers. Trent, Riggs, Frankie, Lurch, and their wide variety of guests talk about everything golf like normal folks sitting at a bar watching coverage, venting about the game's difficulties, and weighing in on pro gossip. Your classic golf addicts, the "Fore Play" crew brings a young, unique voice to the rapidly-evolving game, discussing freely and openly everything golf. There is nothing like it.

Just The Boys

Just The Boys

2020-12-0301:45:34

No guest, just us. An OG show where we let it rip for nearly 2 hours. Why can’t we birdie every hole? When will Trent break 100? Frankie joined a real life roller hockey league. Lurch is going through a plant-based cleanse. Riggs wonders if anyone has actually contracted COVID from a golf rake. We fawn over Tiger’s records and relive the latest Travel Show episode from Australia. This is the good stuff.
Country music star Chris Lane (55:03) joins the show telling fun golf stories and detailing a Pinehurst buddies trip which included the likes of Jake Owen, Shay Mooney, Hardy and more. Before Chris, the crew reacts to The Match III, to Phil & Charles dominating Peyton & Steph, and to the handicap police coming out for blood over Steph Curry’s +1 handicap.
Paternity test savant Maury Povich (48:46) joins the show. He famously hopped on a few other Barstool shows and went out of his way to say Riggs needs to make swing adjustments. We get to the bottom of it and hear about how the Maury show came about, his love for golf, and discuss different tracks. In headlines we preview the upcoming Charles Barkley, Phil Mickelson, Steph Curry, Peyton Manning match, and in From The Gallery, we go over the leaf rule, how Tour players get paid, and our favorite golf course branding.
Big news: Tiger & Charlie Woods are teaming up for the PNC, Kisner loses in a playoff but takes home over $700K, and movie star Josh Dumahel (72:07) joins the show. We talk about the industry, Mark Wahlberg’s style of golf, and what it’s like being onset during the pandemic. Before Josh, we dive into what Tiger & Charlie’s appearance could mean for golf going forward and, also, into our deep thoughts on the British Royal Family.
Golf brings a lot of people together and drives a lot of important things in all of our lives. On today’s show, we’re joined by two special men who’ve both helped a lot of people. First, Jon Taffer (17:16) from Bar Rescue joins us to talk Frankie’s appearance on his show, opening new restaurants during COVID, how golf can improve as a business, and how nervous he was when first storming into bars on television. Next, we’re joined by Lt Col Dan Rooney (65:15), an American hero, an F-16 fighter jet pilot and a PGA professional. We discuss Folds Of Honor, American Dunes (the incredible new golf course project with Jack Nicklaus), and how golf influenced Dan to become a fighter jet pilot.
We recap the incredibly unique 2020 Masters with 4-time participant and recurring guest Pat Perez (2:55) who’s got insight from very recent rounds played with winner Dustin Johnson. We dig into it all — DJ putting a stamp on his phenomenal 2020 year, how Augusta National played and presented itself, Bryson’s “par 67” backfire, Rory’s slow start syndrome, Tiger’s 10 on 12,  and everything else from the first and only November Masters.
Pat Perez joins us for the entire show to talk Masters bets, conditions, what it’s like to play, how special it is, how different this year will be and much, much, much more. We’re live in Philly throughout the tournament responsibly gambling using the Barstool Sportsbook app. Let’s have a week! Persons under 21 are not permitted to engage in sports wagering. Masters Week. It’s Time.

Masters Week. It’s Time.

A November Masters. The Barstool Classic Championship at Pinehurst. Bryson grunting drives over 400 yards. We breakdown an INTENSE Cradle playoff at Pinehurst, Tiger Tracker re-emerging, Frankie defeating 12 year old Pete (with 9 shots), prop bets for this week, and MUCH more.
Doug Ghim (4:00), Kirk Minihane (55:50), and Jeff McNeil (106:02) join the show. It’s a jam-packed one. First, PGA TOUR youngster Doug Ghim takes us through the behind-the-scenes of finishing low amateur at the 2018 Masters and getting through the Butler Cabin ceremony, hilarious high school golf stories, and the windy conditions in Bermuda. Then, Kirk Minihane goes deep into the one true thing he loves: the Masters. We talk favorites, who’s likable and who’s not, and also revisit Riggs’ emotional Pinehurst departure. Finally, New York Met all-star Jeff McNeil discusses the upcoming Barstool Classic Championship at Pinehurst (which he’s playing in), the Mets new ownership, and some inside baseball on anticipating pitches.
Different show today. First, we’ve got Philadelphia Flyers star center and Team Portnoy member Kevin Hayes (7:27). He takes us hole by hole through his first trip to Pine Valley. Second, we’re joined by World Series champ, Dodger starting pitcher Walker Buehler (66:29). He discusses the similarities between pitching and golfing, and what it was like winning a title during the COVID era.
Xander Schauffele

Xander Schauffele

2020-10-2901:15:23

Xander Schauffele (31:39), the 7th-ranked player in the world, joins the show for the first time (with his dad!). We dig into nerve levels on the 13th tee at Augusta when Xander realized he was leading the 2019 Masters, confidence going into this year’s Masters, his journey to becoming a top-10 player in the world winks at the Presidents Cup, Frankie’s chipping, Riggs losing to a 12-year-old, and MUCH more.
Trent The Corn Protector

Trent The Corn Protector

2020-10-2701:51:20

A fun history of Trent the security guard spawns from a conversation about how much we appreciate Barstool. We also get into Bryson carrying the ball 400+ yards, the Fore Man Scramble potentially having its next opponent, Cantlay prevailing in California, Hoodie Rory, Bermuda, golf course pet peeves, and MUCH more.
A lot happening. We’re joined by 6’7 country star Matt Stell (47:57) to talk college aliases, golfing with other stars, zoom songwriting & much more. In headlines, our “old” friend Geoff Shackelford couldn’t figure out his zoom for a question with Tiger, Maury dragged Riggs’ swing, several From The Galleries, can adults wear jerseys to games, and a whole lot more.
We take a trip down memory lane, reliving some old stories and monumental events that got us where we are today. A huge thanks to all our listeners and followers who helped get us here. Then we’re joined by Alfonso Ribeiro (41:26) who, once again, gets enthrallingly analytical about the golf swing. In Headlines, Phil Mickelson was mean to the Champions Tour, Jason Kokrak broke through after 230+ PGA TOUR starts, and Tiger Woods is back this week.
Brock Nelson and Mel Reid!

Brock Nelson and Mel Reid!

2020-10-1501:49:30

We’ve got a jam-packed show for you. Two guests. An American hero, a good guy who plays hard and loves the game, Brock Nelson (37:06) of the New York Islanders. And the recent first-time LPGA Tour winner, a badass Brit who could outdrink us the whole way down a mountain, Mel Reid. (87:45) With Brock we discuss his and Frankie’s golf relationship, how he got into golf growing up in a 1700 person town, being a lefty who putts righty, the NHL bubble, and more. With Mel we talk about getting in trouble for partying after winning, snowboarding in the offseason, and much more. Amongst us, we breakdown the CJ Cup this weekend and its strong field, DJ having COVID, aces on par 4s, and more.
2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman (44:40) joins the show and we get into Bryson DeChambeau and his distance preparing to descend upon Augusta, Matthew Fitzpatrick’s comments, what makes Augusta so diabolical on approach shots, Bobby Jones stories, and much more. Amongst ourselves, we react to Frankie’s choice to wear a collarless shirt to Devon Toews’ wedding and recap Riggs’ bachelor party at Big Cedar Lodge.
J.T. Poston (19:15) joins the show for the first time. We discuss a freak eye injury on the driving range at Winged Foot, flat brims, Bryson bombing balls into the equipment trucks in Vegas, and being the “other JT.” In Fore Play news, Trent’s been reading and Riggs claims he has been too, but there’s some debate around his definition of “reading.” Also: who’s the best current player on the pod, Phil’s decided to embarrass the seniors again, and John Daly makes an ace on a green with 11 holes.
Much has occurred in the world since our last pod. Sergio won while putting with his eyes closed. Aaron Rai won with iron covers. The president has COVID. Augusta went from brown to green. We discuss the possibility of Bryson flipping golf on its head by destroying Augusta National, debate if we’ve already shot our career lows or not, discussed whether putting with your eyes closed is insane or not, and how to handle missed “gimmies”.
Are We Unstoppable?

Are We Unstoppable?

2020-10-0101:11:04

2-0 baby, 2 and 0. The Fore Man Scramble has officially beaten Jake Owen, Darius Rucker, Morgan Wallen, and Hardy in a scramble match at Troubadour Golf Club and we recap the entire round on today’s show. We also answer some From The Gallery questions such as does a hole in one on the 19th hole at Payne’s Valley count, do we have disdain for muni and local courses cause we play so many nice ones, and more.
Justin Rose (33:20) joins the show for the first time to discuss poetic insight from a local caddie at the 2013 U.S. Open, being the 2016 Olympic gold medalist, & being a Ryder Cup stalwart. Then we breakdown the MASSIVE Fore Man Scramble match vs Jake Owen, Darius Rucker, Morgan Wallen & Hardy. Who wins? Who’s got the edge? Who doesn’t? We also get into Big Cedar Lodge, the Barstool Classic, the Barstool Golf Society on 2k, and much more.

Just found my new favorite podcast. I'm a big fan of playing golf, but watch it on TV sparingly (majors and lazy Sundays). This is perfect for me. Keep it up guys!
