Honduras, Ciudad Morazán, ZEDE Law, Repeal, Libertarianism, Economic Freedom, Governance, Legal Challenges, Community Development, Incentives, Political Dynamics, Próspera. Timothy Allen talks with Alex Ugorji. Alex is one of the original residents of Ciudad Morazán, the so called 'blue collar Free City' and one of the lesser known Honduran ZEDEs. In fact, as far as I can tell, he is the third-longest-standing resident of a modern Free City in history, so his opinion carries weight. He shares his journey from the Northern Mariana Islands in the northwestern Pacific Ocean to Honduras, exploring the potential of crypto-friendly environments and the complexities of navigating financial regulations. Alex sheds light on the current legal uncertainties surrounding the ZEDE regime in Honduras, particularly in the wake of the supreme court's controversial decision to retroactively repeal the ZEDE law, and discusses its implications for investors and residents. The conversation also delves into the broader political landscape of Central America, examining the rise of libertarian figures and the competitive dynamics shaping policy decisions in the region. Morazán often flies under the radar of journalists and commentators reporting on ZEDEs in Honduras. More often than not, this is because it doesn’t conform to the negative stereotypes frequently perpetuated by legacy media. If you’re interested in learning more, check out their website as well as my interview with Ciudad Morazán’s founder, Massimo Mazzone. Enjoy the conversation. Agenda 2030, Agenda 2050, Agenda 21, Stablecoins, Climate Change, Control, Smart Cities, 15 Minute Cities, Surveillance, Bitcoin, Spiritual Awareness, Fear, Compliance, Resistance. Timothy Allen talks with Efrat Fenigson. This conversation explores the rise of centralised control in a digital age with particular reference to Agenda 2030. Efrat sees Agenda 2030 as a plan to control many facets of human life, from finances and movement to information and even food choices. She argues that while the agenda is presented as a benevolent path toward sustainability, it relies heavily on manipulating people through fear and encouraging compliance. Efrat is particularly concerned about the way climate change is being used to justify policies that could erode personal liberties. Efrat believes it’s impossible to save everyone, arguing that awakening to these realities is ultimately a personal choice. She emphasises the importance of individual responsibility, urging listeners to educate themselves, become financially independent through tools like Bitcoin, and seek out communities that align with their values. She also highlights the spiritual dimension of this struggle, suggesting that true freedom requires not just external changes but also inner work and a deeper understanding of one’s place in the world. Freedom, Economics, Austrian Economics, Free Cities, State Control, Regulation, Agorism, Algorithms, Bitcoin, Decentralization, Internet Frontier, Globalization, Governance. Timothy Allen talks with Per Bylund. This episode delves into the philosophical and practical aspects of freedom, exploring how the internet, as a modern frontier, plays a pivotal role in shaping our current socio-political landscape. Per Bylund, an economist known for his work on entrepreneurship and the market process, shares insights into the evolution of the state and the natural inclination towards control, questioning whether true freedom is achievable in a world increasingly dominated by centralized governance. We discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by decentralization, the potential of free Cities as hubs of innovation, and the role of agorism and Bitcoin in circumventing state control. The conversation also touches on the nature of regulation and the contrasting perspectives on free markets and state intervention. Enjoy the conversation. It is election week in the US, so I thought we should get some feedback from a local this week. Natalie is well-embedded in the political quagmire as a well-followed Twitter influencer, tweeting about liberty and freedom. One of Elon's favourite libertarians, she even got Javier Milei to retweet a photo from the conference this year. Well done, Nat! We recorded this conversation a few days before the election, so we didn't know the result. However, as you'll hear, Natalie was pretty confident that Trump would win through. Bitcoin, Pensions, Institutional Investment, Austrian Economics, 2008 Financial Crisis, Hyperinflation Risk, Energy Consumption, ESG Considerations, Pension Schemes, Financial Literacy, Financial Planning. Timothy Allen talks with Sam Roberts. Sam is a qualified actuary and director at Cartwright, a UK-based pensions and investment advisory firm that serves institutional clients such as corporate pension schemes, charities, and corporate treasuries. Under the direction of Sam, Cartwright has been the first UK firm to make the bold move of advising their clients to allocate bitcoin to their portfolios, part of the so called 'arrival of institutions' into this new financial realm. In this episode, we delve into Bitcoin's emerging role in the institutional investment landscape, particularly within pension funds. Sam shares his journey from the 2008 financial crisis to viewing Bitcoin as a hedge against systemic risks and discusses the challenges of integrating Bitcoin into the traditionally slow-moving pensions industry. We also discuss the potential of Bitcoin as a tool for economic resilience, its environmental impact, and its role in a future financial system that could lead to a new economic renaissance. Nostr, Social Media, Algorithms, Censorship, Freedom of Speech, Cryptography, Anarchism, Hutting, Próspera, Honduras, Fountain App, Amethyst. Timothy Allen talks with Ben Arc. You may have noticed recently that I’ve been talking a fair bit about Nostr on this podcast. We’re even reading out Nostr messages at the beginning of each episode. Well, it’s time to take a deeper dive, but before we do, I want to give my best 101 intro to start you off. This is important. As far as I can tell, Nostr is not just another fly-by-night social media platform that will never get enough onboarders to change the world. Yes, it’s true that most people are using the protocol for social media right now, but that misses the point of this incredible new technology. Nostr (Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays) is a decentralized, censorship-resistant protocol for creating and sharing content. It uses no central servers or authorities. As an open protocol, anyone can use, implement, and build upon it without requiring permission. In the same way Bitcoin works, users identify themselves with cryptographic public-private key pairs and send messages through a network of relays. This makes censorship on the platform incredibly difficult since users can connect to whichever relays they choose. So, if a relay is censoring content, you just switch to another that isn’t. Social media apps are just the start, as you’ll hear in this episode. As we speak, there is a massive and growing community of people building out a new censorship-resistant version of the internet on top of Nostr. On Nostr, you own your own identity and data—or what people refer to as your social graph—and you can take it to whichever app the sits on the protocol that you like. Ben Arc is the founder of LNbits and a developer who was involved in Nostr from its early beginnings. Enjoy the conversation. Governance, Bitcoin, Intentional Communities, Libertarianism, Próspera, ICSID Arbitration, Dubai, Liberty In Our Lifetime, Seasteading, Sark renovation, Liberland. Timothy Allen talks with Peter Young. So, how can I sum up the last 100 episodes? Well, it's been a phenomenal journey for me, which has taken me all over the world, meeting exceptional people who are really pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the market of living together. Of course, I feel very fortunate to have had this opportunity to learn out loud about all this stuff, and thankful that you've been able to come along with me for the ride. Before I started this podcast, governance wasn't high on my list of interests, but as the months have gone by, I've realised that it's one of the most important aspects of the freedom that we're all searching for in the world. Also, one of the aspects that is often at the heart of conflict and dispute. If only it were as simple as 'live and let live'… but we all know that it's not and never will be, so we carry on discussing, building, and creating parallel systems into which people can voluntarily opt in. There are no utopias in the future, there's no end to this road, but right now, what there is in our present is a world in which you can choose to work on a project that you believe in, a project that you can offer up to your fellow humans to join in or not, and then after that, and I've said this many times before, it's just a case of turning up each day and putting in the work. Never forget, you get to work on what I believe are the most interesting projects on the planet at this particular and incredible time in history. And I, for one, am extremely grateful for the opportunity. So here's to another 100 episodes of this podcast and to all the future pioneers I'll be talking to over the next two years. I salute you! And I've loved hanging out with you all. What a time to be alive! Enjoy the conversation. Nostr, Surveillance State, Religion, Bitcoin, Great Filters, Acceleration Theory, Family, Decentralised Networks, Defiance. Timothy Allen talks with Selfbankt. I've got another pseudonymous guest for you again this week. He's somebody I originally met through Twitter some years ago, subsequently forging a good friendship in real life, you may know him from Twitter yourself, in fact. He was a well-known character to Bitcoiners: SelfBankt, that was until he was banned from Twitter during the pandemic for 'wrongthink'... that was pre-Elon, obviously. Anyway, rather than reappearing on the bird app under a new guise, he made a home on the decentralized messaging network known as Nostr, something that many other people appear to be doing of late, myself included... and that is something that we speak about a fair bit in this episode, along with his experience of nearly losing his job as an anesthetist over the COVID jab, the importance of what he calls 'filter' events in life, and his discovery of religion and how that fits in with all the Orwellian events he's witnessed over the last few years. Bitcoin, Forestry, Stoicism, Próspera, Volatility, Risk, Anti-fragility, Nostr, Identity, Land Ownership, Parallel Networks, Freedom, Citadels. Timothy Allen talks with Ben Gunn. Pseudonymous Ben is somewhat of an elusive character.. and I mean that in the best possible way. He’s a grafter, a proof-of-worker and he doesn’t sit down and do podcasts very often. I drove up the Welsh borders to visit him at his woodland estate last week to chat about a number of things. The idea was initially sparked by a conversation we had in Prague a few months prior when he told me he was starting a company in Próspera. We meander though a number of subjects during this chat, diving under the surface of Ben’s forestry project in Wales and the ethics that underpin its business model. We talk about his experiences living on Roatan in Honduras, about the pandemic, inflection points and the broader implications of global economic shifts. Ben is a former broker and he uses the language of finance to frame many of the interesting concepts we speak about, including my request for him to explain “Long Vol” to me. If you don’t know what that means, I’m not about to explain it here but its something I’ve been grappling with for a while. Thankfully Ben sorted me out this time, so many thanks for that and listen on for your own answers and much more. Enjoy the conversation. Socialism, Communism, 1989, Gold, Bitcoin, Central Banking, Dollar Hegemony, Stablecoins, Governance, Rebellion. Timothy Allen talks with Niko Jilch. Today I have for you my last recording from Prague's 2024 Bitcoin conference.  Niko is an Austrian financial journalist who’s been covering financial markets, monetary history/policy and macro economics for over 10 years.  Interestedly for me, he’s been an advocate for gold for most of that time too and, as many of you will know, I’ve been dying to get a gold bug on this show for quite some time now. Spoiler alert: Niko is also an evangelical Bitcoiner... I'm trying my hardest here! In this long conversation we cover a number of key financial topics beginning with the historical and contemporary implications of socialism and/or communism . Niko draws many parallels between the peaceful revolutions of 1989 in Eastern Europe and the situation we find ourselves in today in Western Europe vis-à-vis the emergence of Bitcoin as digital gold and a vehicle that can be used to peacefully exit the current fiat system. Continue listening for more of Niko's takes on gold, stable coins, governance models, the federal reserve and central banking, plus his personal opinions on what might be your best practices to help you ride out the current wave of social and economic volatility that we see in the world. Parenting, Liberated Children, Stoicism, Feminism, Voluntarism, Socialism, Gender Roles, Gender Wars, Liberty, Freedom. Timothy Allen talks with Pavla Karon. Pavla is an entrepreneur and freedom maximalist who co-runs her family business, but outside of that she’s all about family and personal growth. When our paths cross, I always have great chats with her and this one is no exception. Core topics discussed include raising children, especially parenting methods and bringing up liberated kids. We also go into 21st century gender roles, feminism, socialism, stoicism and the way that technology is affecting all of them. Pavla is an old school voluntarist with a wealth and depth of experience in the realm of liberty and more importantly, staying free. Enjoy the conversation. Zaha Hadid, Architecture, Próspera, Liberland, Metaverse, Parametricism, Digital Cities, Free City Design, Modular Buildings, Free Market. Timothy Allen talks with Shajay Bhooshan Shajay runs the computation and design group at Zaha Hadid Architects and he worked on the designs for some well known Free City projects including Próspera, Praxis and Liberland's metaverse project. Zaha Hadid definitely work at the sharp end of the wedge as far as using innovative technologies goes and speaking to Shajay gave me a peek into the future of architectural design and city planning along with digital fabrication of virtual places. Spoiler alert:  Shajay predicts that one day Zaha Hadid will generate more revenue from the digital realm than from the physical. I would never have predicted that. Enjoy the conversation. Self Sovereignty, Overlanding, Landsteading, Bitcoin Adoption, Digital Identity, BTC Map, Flag Theory, Freedom. Timothy Allen talks with Nathan Day. Nathan is a former global IT systems optimiser who managed to gain a degree of financial freedom after he sold his business a few years ago. Consequentially, this lead to him and his wife to ask themselves the question:  “If we were terminally ill and had 2 years to live, what would we do?” The answer came in the form of a custom built, fully pimped out overland & off-road truck which their family has been using as a home from home ever since. In this conversation we discuss various topics related to Bitcoin, including the installation of miners in their truck, their experiences living self-sovereign lives during the COVID-19 pandemic and the potential of decentralized networks like Nostr to revolutionize digital identity. We also explore the connections between time, entropy and Bitcoin and discuss the current state of Bitcoin adoption and infrastructure globally. If you’re a Bitcoiner you’ll probably know Nathan better as the co-founder of BTC Map, the indispensable app for finding merchants that accept bitcoin.   Nathan shares some fascinating insights into merchant adoption around the globe, arguably one of the best metrics for measuring the success of the decentralised money.
