Description
Friday Candy is a show about the best things in life: friendship, travel, food, romance, adventure, books, and so much more. Honestly the show is going to be a mixed bag - and every episode will be a bit different. We hope that wherever you are or whenever you’re listening, that Friday Candy will make your day just a little sweeter. Friday Candy The Podcast is created and hosted by Ashlyn and Austin Sailsbury.
16 Episodes
Reverse
Hammama trauma! Harry Styles! Helicopters! How to shower! And the life-changing art of Japanese Misogi!
Episode 16 is all about getting as comfy as possible…but also, it’s about stepping out of our comfort zones! One of the scariest and most fun things about stepping out of your comfort zone is that you never really know what’s going to happen: you might discover a new hobby, you might score a new job, you might even meet your spouse! Ultimately, that’s what it means to step from the known into the unknown - you’re trying something new, taking a chance, and that always involves a bit of risk - you just never know what is going to happen and that’s okay! Oftentimes, stepping out of your safe little bubble is terrifying, it’s true. But it can also be thrilling and super valuable in your own journey of discovery and growth!

Greek goddesses! Croatian cuties! Volleyball vixens! Dancing Queen! Cyndi Lauper! And the legendary axe-woman Paulette Bunyan!
This episode is all about friendship! These special relationships can come in a million shapes and sizes: best friends, work friends, school friends, chatty neighbors, and casual acquaintances! But all friendships are valuable - they help to fight off loneliness and enrich our lives with companionship, hope, balance, and, hopefully, much joy and laughter! From the Swiss alps to the Moroccan desert and from suburban sleepovers to frozen football games, Episode 15 is a celebration of the many wonders of friendship in all its forms - from boyz being boyz to girls going wild!

Sewer snakes! Sinkholes! Social Anxiety! Episode 14 of Friday Candy the Podcast is all about fear!
No question about it, there is a lot of scary stuff out there in the world! And on today’s show, we are wandering into the deep dark forest of the sub-conscious to try and discover the sources of our fears, the strange and ridiculous ways in which they manifest in everyday life, and how we might confront and conquer the monsters that scare us!
Fear is really a fascinating thing. It can truly come in so many forms - both rational and irrational. It starts in our minds, but it can also overtake our bodies. Fear can stop us from taking risks but it can also help to spike the adrenaline that we need to run away from a mountain lion. At times, fear can save your life…but it can also stop you from living your life.

UFOs! Full moons! The Bermuda Triangle! The lost tomb of Alexander the Great! Rabbit holes! Black holes! And the (almost nearly) true story of the mysterious Disappearance of Lisa D!I think we can all agree, life is full of mysteries - they’re everywhere! From the nagging little curiosities of everyday life to the greatest unsolved mysteries of human history, today’s show is a celebration of curiosity, imagination, and wonder! As we lean into the shorter days and longer nights of the Autumn season, the leaves are changing, the winds are blowing, and - for some reason - we are suddenly reminded that we like spooky stories (spooky not scary!) full of magic, mischief, and mystery!Friday Candy was created and hosted by Ashlyn and Austin Sailsbury. Road trips! Country Music! Ballgames! Teddy Roosevelt! Tennessee sunsets! And SO MANY CORN DOGS! Episode 12 of Friday Candy the Podcast is ALL ABOUT AMERICA, BABIES!
We talk a lot about living abroad and traveling around Europe on this show, but this episode is all about America, baby! And since we just spent the summer with friends and family back home, we decided it was time to celebrate what we love most about the good ol’ U S A; from Carolina barbecue to the California redwoods, there is so much about America that we appreciate and enjoy. The landscapes, the stories, the food, and most of all, the people!

HURRICANE RESPONSE
In light of recent events, we're encouraging listeners this week to support the relief efforts of the American Red Cross by visiting redcross.org! Hurricanes Helene and Milton have recently caused massive amounts of damage in the American South and along the Eastern seaboard. And right now, many communities are suffering in the wake of these destructive storms. Luckily, no matter where you live in the world, you can help to make a positive impact as individuals and families in the affected areas work to rebuild. I hope you will consider joining Austin and I in supporting the American Red Cross. You can visit redcross.org today to learn more about the heroic work happening on the ground in places like Asheville, North Carolina. Donating online is quick and easy and it really does make a positive difference.
We're back, babies! Welcome to Season Two of Friday Candy the Podcast! This episode is full of freaks, (mis)matched lovers, Joy Reports, the Spice Girls, and SO many boyz (also, we reveal the truth about Ashlyn's many enemies)!
'Match My Freak' is all about how very different people can find one another, decide to stick together, and then negotiate the ups and downs of life with one another. As you will hear in the stories ahead, partnering up with another person is never a small task - it’s a strange, mysterious, and often hilarious cocktail of human psychology, animal attraction, quirks of personality, and good old dumb luck. But however people come together, one thing is for sure - we’re all ‘freaks’ in one way or another.

Life's big questions! The wheel of destiny! Apricots! Peaches! Figs! A self-care nightmare! Baby #3! This is our 'sexiest' episode yet!
.
Episode 10 of Friday Candy The Podcast is all about making decisions: good decisions, bad decisions, even ‘non-decision decisions.’ Every day of our lives is full of decisions - from the minor to the major. This constant decision making can be exhilarating, sure, but it can also be exhausting. So, rather than giving into decision fatigue, we thought, let’s have some fun with all this deciding! In the end, Austin and I found that this was a very fun and fascinating topic to discuss…but, of course, you will have to decide for yourself if you agree.

On today’s show, we’re pulling back the curtain and going behind the scenes to explore ‘how it's made.’ From how to create a stage illusion, to how an author’s ideas become a published book, and how to make the most out of a summer adventure in Europe, Episode 09 is chock full of true stories and top-secret tips.

Quicksand! Pickles! Licorice! Dolly Parton! And lots of DUNKS! Episode 08 of Friday Candy the Podcast is all about change - specifically, how our ideas and perspectives change over time; as we grow up and gain new knowledge and experiences. Sometimes, this change is as easy as giving a second chance to a food that used to ick you out. Other times, in order to change, we need to acknowledge that we were wrong before we can move on. This might mean apologizing to someone or asking for forgiveness. Or it might just mean being truly honest with ourselves. I used to think or feel one way, but now I have new information and my thinking has changed. And that’s okay.

Marvelous! Mysterious! Magical! Mystical! WONDERFUL! Today’s show is all about WONDERS!
From the mysterious things that we wonder about to those magical moments in life that take us by surprise and leave us with a lasting sense of beauty. In today's EPIC episode, we (like Odysseus!) wander the wide world and encounter wonder at every turn; from the Pyramids of Giza to the gargoyles of Paris to 'Peter Pan Land', and from the innocent days of childhood to the vast mysteries of the here and now! This is our biggest episode yet and features an in-depth look inside Ashlyn's private 'Book of Wonders,' plus a especially wonderful Joy Report!

Time travel! Camel rides! Sand surfing! A Viking yurt and a very jazzy jer repert! Today’s show is all about ‘the stuff of life’…the stuff we buy, the stuff we collect, the stuff we keep and the stuff we give away. But even more than that, this episode is about our ever-changing relationship to our stuff - from the clothes we wear to the homes we live in. So, whether you think of yourself as a minimalist or a maximalist (or somewhere in between) we hope that today’s show is a good reminder to focus on the things that truly matter the most in life. Those things that aren’t even things at all. On today’s show, we share our tips for living a minimal-ish lifestyle. And we also talk a lot about ladders (surprisingly). This episode features music by John Roseboro, Kyle Cox, Franc Castillejos, and Museo. Our theme music is by Robin Quin. Special thanks to Chad Snavely of Sound On Studios for his help with the audio production.
Ashlyn the dolphin-trainer! Austin as Paris' worst tour guide! Guess that job! Scrooge McDuck money! Ancient Greek wisdom! Honky tonkin'! Indiana Jones! Pretty good life advice from Uncle Austin! And, of course, an all new jer reperts! Today’s show is all about growing up and going to work. Whether that’s teaching, raising kids, building decks, or decoding ancient messages like Indiana Jones - there are about a million jobs out there and, honestly, most of them are pretty fascinating. So whatever kind of work you do, or wherever you are in your personal career journey, we hope that today’s show inspires you to keep on keeping on!

Disputes! Disagreements! Debates! Episode 04 is all about (mostly petty) conflicts. It's our longest episode yet (sorry, not sorry!) and features all kinds of fisticuffs. Of course, sometimes our petty differences can be very serious. Other times…not so much. From listeners’ petty disputes to our own domestic disagreements, goat blessings, dinner roll thievery, a Grandma named 'Mama', some sauna drama, the mysteries of the Enneagram, sage relationship advice from the Gottman Institute, and a new Spanish Summer cocktail recipe called a ‘Tween-toe de Verano!’ Seriously, Episode 04 is a bit unhinged - just the way we like it!

Home birth! A dark and stormy night! Magical midwives! An epic road trip! Beyoncé! Babies on bikes! Super love! And, obviously, Thor, the God of Thunder!
.
Today’s show is our biggest and most personal yet. 'Becoming Mom and Dad' is all about the transition into parenthood - that strange and sacred transformation from normal, peaceful, relatively rational adults into…well…into parenthood. But don’t worry, we’ve done our best to avoid sob stories about diaper-changing and night feeding - although those struggles are very real! Instead, today’s episode is a celebration of the change and growth that happens whenever you welcome a new little human into your life.

Pack your bags, throw on a beret, and grab a baguette! On this episode of Friday Candy: The Podcast, we're heading off to The Old World to experience 'la dolce vita' - the sweet life.
Featuring some of our favorite travel tales from Italy, Switzerland, and the Greek Islands as well as a thoughtful conversation about the practical realities of moving from the US to Denmark (and then Spain), Episode 02 is a mixed bag of international mishaps, missteps, and hilarious misadventures! Also, Episode 02 includes an new and basically unhinged edition of the 'Joy Report!'
