The kids of Walnut Grove School were correct about Miss Eliza Jane Wilder: She does indeed assign more home work that Alice Garvey ever did. And special projects too. In fact the latest project is a Family Tree. While Laura is ready to run home and start on hers, Albert is left wondering what to do about his, other than make one up. This leads to the decision for Charles and Caroline to finally/officially adopt Albert into the Ingalls family. What seemed like a simple process turns into anything but (are we surprised?) when Albert's Biological dad is located. Although the prospect of a son is the farthest thing on his mind, Jeremy Quinn is very pleased to learn that he will soon have a strong and youthful farm hand. Finding themselves on the other side of the law, the Ingalls fear their family will soon be torn apart. That's until the brilliance of Albert finds a way from preventing that from happening. Did Post-Mistress Mr. Oleson go through a different training program than Post-Mistress Kizia Horn? Who is really in the Oleson family tree? Picking up right where we left off...Caroline confronts Laura about her misdeeds with Nellie's dinner date with Almanzo. While she's okay with "apologizing" to Nellie, Laura bolts rather than being forced, like a child, to apologize to Almanzo. More than ever Laura is determined to become a woman and she believes accelerating her plan in becoming an educator is the path in doing so. But first she has to pass her final School exam. And the only way to do so is to get the study material from the one person in town whose taken the test...Nellie Oleson. Nellie is nice enough to share the resources material as well as her own experience with taking the test and what to focus on (P.S. History is NOT important). On test day, Laura's dreams of being a graduate are dashed and she realizes that actions have consequences...not only hers but Nellie's. Oh, and Charles is having a hard time with Laura's feelings as she is starting to move towards womanhood. Why did Laura think Nellie would not retaliate for the Cayenne pepper chicken mess?
