They said they'd be back, and The Basement Boys are indeed back with this, the first official podcast From The Basement in almost nine months!
What's brought Jason and Shawn out of semi-retirement and back into the podcastverse? Long-time listeners will remember a couple of interviews they had with the beautiful and talented Jennifer N. Linch about her martial arts comedy Kung Fu Ghost. Well, Jennifer has finished her feature film, is ready to unleash it on the public, and asked the Dynamic Duo to give it a watch, so that's what they've gone and done.
Did The Basement Boys enjoy Kung Fu Ghost? Is Jennifer as capable a filmmaker as she is a fighter? Is the movie worth your time amongst the world's bigger blockbuster? Stick with us!
And stick around, as Jason and Shawn update all y'all on what they've been doing these last several months, chime in on television shows like Peacemaker, Reacher and The Book of Boba Fett, and review recent releases such as the horror flick Off Season and Ryan Reynold's The Adam Project.
You get to hear all this, and maybe a little bit more, by pushing play on the player below.
All roads have led to this, the final prime-time broadcast... From The Basement!
Podcast version, of course...
What have Jason and Shawn got in store for listeners this week? A few not-so sober thoughts on the last eleven years of this show, three of which were on the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops.
But The Dynamic Duo did watch some stuff, and they'd be remiss not to review them for your ear holes. So prepare yourselves for thoughts on the Russian horror movie Superdeep starring Milena Radulovic, the Netflix fright flick The Devil Below, and the retro UFO film Fire in the Sky... because UFOs are so hot right now.
Add in the entertainment rundown (the latest Fast and the Furious anyone?) and you've got yourself the podcast version of the final broadcast... From The Basement. So push play on the player below, and stick with us one more time.
It's the final countdown to the last prime-time episode of From The Basement, and Jason and Shawn have a gooder (real Canadian English) for folks when they tune in to this, the latest podcast... From The Basement!
Not only do they review the upcoming horror/comedy Werewolves Within, they interview its talented and witty writer, Mishna Wolff. And this is the full, feature-length interview with her!
Wolff is a comedian and author of the bestselling memoir I'm Down, and Werewolves Within is her first feature screenplay. How did she take a video game and turn it into a funny werewolf film? And what was it like working with director Josh Ruben and star Milana Vayntrub? What were her influences and inspirations? Stick with us!
And stick around for Jason and Shawn's review of Werewolves Within! Is it the best movie since this pandemic started? Or should The Basement Boys have stuck with genre staples An American Werewolf in London and The Thing instead?
You can find out by pushing play on the player below... right freakin' now!
The Basement Boys are back! And they're bringing the first of the final three prime-time From The Basement episodes with them with this, the latest podcast... From The Basement!
What have Jason and Shawn got in store for listeners? How about an easy half dozen, if not more, reviews for your ear holes? Sound good? Great!
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, is put on the chopping block. Can the latest film based on the alleged case files of Ed and Lorraine Warren stand up to the previous two, not to mention all those spinoffs? Stick with us!
And stay tuned, as Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, and the new Jason Statham/Guy Ritchie collaboration Wrath of Man, are also put to the test. Shawn has caught up with the Canadian comedy series Letterkenny, and Jason took on the horror offerings Great White with Katrina Bowden, and The Djinn. Plus he's seen the Saw sequel Spiral: From the Book of Saw.
You get all this, and a little bit more, when you push play on the player below. So what are you waiting for? Do it!
It's almost vacation time in The Basement, with Jason and Shawn taking a much-deserved break. But not before they unleash one more podcast... From The Basement!
And the Dynamic Duo have a good one in store for listeners, with even more of our interview with true-crime author Wayne Clingman, and a trio of reviews for your ear holes.
Wayne Clingman has made a name for himself in the indie publishing world tackling mafia lore in the Milwaukee and Chicago area. What got him interested in this subject, has it ever put his life at risk, and just how much does he know about mob and drug cartel activities? Stick with us!
Stick with us you shall, as Jason takes on the acclaimed family drama (you read that right) The Killing of Two Lovers starring Clayne Crawford of TV's Lethal Weapon and Rectify. He also places Angelina Jolie's thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead on the chopping block. Meanwhile, Shawn does battle with the first two seasons of Netflix's Love Death + Robots. Yup. Both seasons!
You get an interview. You get a few reviews. What better way to wrap up your holiday weekend. Not a question; a statement! So push play on the player below, and enjoy!
From The Basement returns to the mighty Radio NL on Friday, June 11, with an all-new episode.
The weekend is over, but there's still lots of great things to watch at home and in theatres. Which can only mean one thing; it's time for the latest podcast... From The Basement!
That statement is correct in many ways, as Jason and Shawn have a boat load of reviews for your ear holes PLUS theatres are opening up, with several high-profile films on the silver screen.
First up: what to watch at home! Ever the comic-book guy, Shawn takes on Jupiter's Legacy, the new Netflix series based on Mark Miller's not-so-funny-pages comic. Meanwhile, Jason invites himself to the new slasher romp Initiation. Then The Dynamic Duo join forces for the UFO-themed documentary Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers. How do all these rate? Stick with us!
And stay tuned, as the Basement Boys aren't done yet. There's still reviews of Amanda Seyfried in Things Heard and Seen, a spooky new Netflix original movie. While on the streaming platform, the boys also checked out the docu-series Sons of Sam. And there's the latest Bruce Willis VOD offering Breach.
But wait, there's more! Like what, you ask? Like the entertainment rundown, including big-screen releases Spiral: From the Book of Saw with Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson, Those Who Wish Me Dead starring Angelina Jolie, and Clayne Crawford's relationship thriller The Killing of Two Lovers.
How do you catch all this awesomeness? By pushing play on the handy player below, that's how.
The time has come to get your entertainment on for the week ahead, and what better way to prepare than with the latest podcast... From The Basement.
Not a question, a statement.
The Basement Boys bring you several reviews of the latest -- and not so latest -- releases to make your viewing choices easier, chief among them the Tom Clancy adaptation Without Remorse.
Starring Michael B. Jorden, and based on the popular Clancy character John Clark, this Amazon Original promised big-budget thrills and chills. Does the flick deliver? How accurate of an adaptation is it? Stick with us!
And stick around, True Believer, as Shawn tackles Netflix's Shadow and Bone and the 2019 documentary Unnatural Selection. Meanwhile, Jason celebrates the 50th anniversary of Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry, and takes in two classic action flicks: Sylvester Stallone's First Blood and Gene Hackman's Uncommon Valor. What's the connection between these retro flicks? Stick with...
Already said it. My bad.
PLUS Kamloops Film Society president Dusan Magdolen provides the May rundown for what's showing at the Twin Rivers Drive-In in Jason and Shawn's home town. Don't live in Kamloops? Tough! You're gonna sit there and listen...
And you can listen right now by pushing play on the player below.
Waaaayyyyy the heck back in 2014, long before From The Basement took to the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops airwaves, Jason and Shawn reviewed a little slasher movie called Axeman, AKA Axeman at Cutter's Creek, and interviewed its writer, director and star, Joston Theney.
Surprise, Axeman has become a cult classic, and spawned a sequel. However, Joston was never happy with the final cut of his film. Now it's 2021, and he's recut Axeman to the vision he always had in mind. Call it The Theney Cut, as The Dynamic Due put Axeman Redux on the chopping block for this week's podcast... From The Basement!
The Basement Boys also interview Joston about the how and why of his new edit, and discuss the fact he's been able to retain ownership of his films, a rarity in Hollywood. How was he able to do that? What are his plans for the Axeman franchise? Stick with us!
And stick around for Mortal Kombat! Or, more accurately, Jason and Shawn's review of the new video-game adaptation. Is it greater than, or less than, the 1995 version? You'll have to push play on the player below, and find out!
Now I ain't got nobody... but I do have the latest podcast... From The Basement! And it's coming at yah right here, right now.
Lyrics from another old song? Indeed. Because we are old. But the older the bull, the stiffer the horns. Which is dialogue from an old movie too. Do you see a theme here?
You better believe that Dynamic Duo of film de cinema are talking Bob Odenkirk's first foray into action films. Yes, Better Call Saul himself stars in Nobody from John Wick scribe Derek Kolstad, with fight choreography by the 87Eleven Action Design team. Does it deliver the Dadspoiltation a couple of dads like Jason and Shawn want? Stick with us!
Stick with us you shall, as The Basement Boys take aim at a plethora of movies new, and not so new. Jason has seen the British horror flick The Power starring Rose Williams, The Voices with Valerie Jane Parker, and the documentary Missing 411. Meanwhile, Shawn took in Love and Monsters featuring past Basement guest Ellen Hollman and The Second with Casper Van Dien (yup, still alive).
Toss in a bit of politics, some pop-culture news of the nerd variety, and the weekend entertainment rundown, and you've got yourself a podcast! Wanna hear it? Push play on the player below, and enjoy!
The global pandemic continues, and a third COVID wave currently sweeps our part of the world. But there's hope on the horizon. The vaccine rollout is accelerating, and a recent poll suggests more than 60 percent of people are willing to go to the movies again.
What's all this got to do with the latest podcast... From The Basement? Well, this week we're talking the upcoming Kamloops Film Festival with society director Dusan Magdolen!
The festival goes online when it kicks off this Wednesday, April 21, and heads to the drive in. Dusan reveals some of the festival highlights, how people can watch at home, and more. This might not mean much to our global listeners, but it's a big deal for local movie fans. And what Dusan and company are doing could change the face of film festivals post pandemic.
But this isn't a talk show, so to speak. Jason and Shawn got movies to review... which I guess, given this is a podcast and all, means this really is a talk show... Anyway, the Dynamic Duo take on Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer in Netflix's Thunder Force, the latest season of Prank Encounters, and a Liam Neeson action movie.
Yup, Liam Neeson is still making action movies.
And you get to hear it all right here, right now, by pushing play. Stick with us!
With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound, he pulls the spitting high tension wires down... just in time for the latest podcast... From The Basement!
That's right, we enjoyed using those Blue Oyster Cult lyrics so much for the radio show, we decided to use them again for the podcast. Wanna fight about it?
Didn't think so...
But it is time, Constant Listener, for Jason and Shawn to do battle with the biggest movie of the pandemic so far: Godzilla vs. Kong! This film, from director Adam Wingard, is already chewing up and spitting out box-office dollars from around the globe, at home AND in theatres. Now Godzilla fan Jason, and Kong fan Shawn, weigh in. Do they deem the flick Good, Bad, or Ugly? Stick with us!
And stay tuned, True Believer, as The Basement Boys put more than just one flick on the chopping block. Shawn caught up with the early Colin Farrell action movie S.W.A.T. plus Alita: Battle Angel. Meanwhile, Jason took on the thriller The Block Island Sound, the second season of Shudder's Creepshow revival, and the anthology series The Witching Hour.
Add in the entertainment rundown, and a little bit of entertainment news -- more on that Joss Whedon controversy -- and you've got yourself a podcast! So push play on the player below, and enjoy.
The Easter Bunny has come and gone, Zombie Jesus Day is done for another year, and all that's left is the chocolate and liquor hangovers.
And the latest podcast... From The Basement!
Hot off the mighty Radio NL airwaves comes Jason and Shawn's latest foray into broadcast "journalism," and The Basement Boys review so many movies within the 22-minute run time, it's hard to know where to begin.
Suffice to say, they discuss the new sci-fi sequel Skylines, the raunchy comedy Bad Trip, horror offerings The Toll and Let's Scare Julie, and the Sherlock Holmes-inspired Netflix series The Irregulars. AND they take on the new reality series Linnea Quigley's Paranormal Truth, featuring scream queen Linnea Quigley.
That's a lot to digest.
But that's not all, they also have time for the weekend entertainment rundown, and place their bets on the outcome of Godzilla vs. Kong. Pre-taping the show for the long weekend meant they didn't get to see the titanic team-up, but the Dynamic Duo still ponder the outcome.
What are their thoughts on the matter? Push play on the player below, and enjoy!
In a world where opinions are facts, and friendships can be lost when differing points of view collide, what happens when two lifelong brothers disagree? Especially when it comes to one of the biggest debates of all time: what's better, DC Comics or Marvel?
You'll find out on this, the latest podcast... From The Basement!
This week, Jason and Shawn dissect Zack Snyder's Justice League, the much touted and talked about director's cut of Warner Bros. 2017 film. That version was completed by Joss Whedon after Snyder's daughter died, and the movie was skewered by critics and fans alike. Now we've got Snyder's complete vision -- all four hours of it -- and DC fan Shawn, and Marvel fan Jason, square off on the film. Who liked it? Did either of them hate it? Stick with us!
Stick with us you shall, as the Dynamic Duo also talk the latest Marvel Studios series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the Bigfoot flick Monstrous, and the horror/comedy Blood Fest. Plus Shawn has revisited all three Rush Hours with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Does the trilogy hold up today?
Push play on the amazing podcast player below, and find out!
It's Monday morning, a time usually reserved for foul moods, hangovers, and a general sense of the blues. But Rejoice! As the latest podcast... From The Basement... is here to brighten your day!
How are Jason and Shawn going to do that? By offering you a bazillion-and-one entertainment choices to make your viewing more enjoyable during the work week. And they have a range of offerings on the chopping block, from YouTube to streaming to feature films of every size, shape and colour.
On the YouTube side of things, our Dynamic Duo tackle the latest episode of Small Town Monsters' On the Trail of Hauntings, and can't help but make comparisons to their own ghost hunting show, We Want to Believe... but do so with the greatest respect. They also tune in to Bat in the Sun's fan film Dying Is Easy. Is it the greatest Batman story ever told? Stick with us!
And stick around for a discussion on the intricacies of Coming 2 America -- neither Jason nor Shawn have seen it yet, but they have stuff to say about it -- and comic-book films like Zack Snyder's Justice League, plus reviews of the new horror offerings The Vigil and Lucky, and the gonzo action flick Boss Level with Frank Grillo, Mel Gibson, and Naomi Watts.
There's even more, but best you push play on the player below and find out for yourselves.
What do a demonic-possession tale with a twist, a journey to a faraway land full of monsters, and an interview with a Broadway star have in common? They make up the latest podcast... From The Basement, that's what!
Indeed, those who tuned in not once, not twice, but thrice to From The Basement on Radio NL this past weekend know the skinny on this episode. We reviewed Know Fear and Monster Hunter, plus interviewed Know Fear star Mallory Bechtel. But they didn't get the whole story.
This podcast features an additional 10 minutes of our interview with Mallory, who was last seen on the big screen in the acclaimed Hereditary. She's back in horror mode with Know Fear, and explains her love of the genre, getting into a dark headspace for a tough role, and how one goes from Broadway to big scares. It's a great interview with a talented young lady, and one folks will enjoy.
Jason and Shawn also put Know Fear on the chopping block before turning the Executioner's Axe on Monster Hunter, a big-budget adaptation of the popular video-game franchise. Director Paul W. S. Anderson doesn't have the best track record with this sort of thing, but star Milla Jovovich knows how to kick butt. And martial artist Tony Jaa co-stars. Could this one deliver the goods?
Find out by pushing play on the player below, and stick with us!
We said it loud and proud not once, not twice, but thrice this past weekend on the mighty Radio NL, and now we're gonna say it one more time as From The Basement celebrates this, the latest podcast From The...
Well, you get the point.
This episode is a reason to celebrate as we've got more -- like 10 minutes more -- of our interview with Son writer/director Ivan Kavanagh!
Son opened in limited theatres and Digital last Friday, and it's a great little horror ride that's getting rave reviews. Ivan talks about his inspiration for the film, working with stars Andi Matichak and Emile Hirsch, his creative process and more. Ivan is a great filmmaker and fine person, and that comes through in this 17-minute interview.
Jason and Shawn also review Son and, given the great-little-horror-ride comment, it should be no secret what they think about this one. They do have a lot to say about Son, so tune in anyway. The Basement Boys also sound off on some older flicks, and provide a wee bit of entertainment news.
And you can hear it all right here, right now, but pushing play on the player below.
More than a half dozen reviews await you if you dare enter the latest podcast... From The Basement!
We humbly acknowledge listeners had three opportunities to catch Jason and Shawn on the mighty Radio NL this past weekend, but we appreciate those who are stopping by the hear the episode for the first time, or to catch it again. We love you all individually and as a group.
What's on the chopping block this week? The Parish, a new horror flick from director David Hogan featuring Angela DiMarco and Bill Oberst Jr. This one finds a single mother and her daughter threatened by supernatural evil, including a creepy nun... and an even creepier janitor. Nuns, janitors... it's all creepy here! But does it deliver the creepy goods? Stick with us!
And stay tuned, true believer, As Shawn (finally) catches up with WandaVision, and takes on Owen Wilson and Selma Hayek in the morality tale Bliss. Meanwhile, Jason braves Shudder's latest original, the social-media themed Shook, plus the creepy (there's that word again) indie shocker Sator. Oh, and he's got a few thoughts on CBS's Silence of the Lambs follow up, Clarice.
The Dynamic Duo also provide the entertainment rundown for the week ahead, and the latest movie news for comic-book nerds. Yup; movie news for comic-book nerds. And you can hear it all right now by pushing on the player below
We put foot to audio ass not once, not twice, but thrice this past weekend on the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops; and now we proudly present this, the podcast version of our latest broadcast... From The Basement!
And Jason and Shawn have more -- like eight minutes more -- of their interview with writer/director Greg Lamberson! Greg, who is best known for low-budget horror like Slime City Massacre, is making an action movie called Guns of Eden, and he's taken to IndieGoGo to get the film financed. Why? What's the movie about? How can you help get it made? You'll have to tune in to find out! He and Jason also take a few minutes to discuss the post-COVID cinema landscape. It's a great chat for genre and movie fans!
But that's not all; Last week Jason and Shawn talked the DMC -- Dumbest Moment in Cinema -- when it came to a scene in Gerard Butler's movie Greenland. Given all the years people have been making and watching movies, there has to be more than one dumb moment in cinema, right? Right! And this week, the Dynamic Duo count down their Top 5 Dumbest Moments in Cinema! What are they?
How about you push play on the handy, dandy podcast player!
Stick with us!
Because three opportunities to catch From The Basement on the mighty Radio NL aren't enough, we proudly present this, the latest podcast... From The Basement!
