Description
We are Kim & Nathan, a wife and husband duo. Our purpose for this podcast is to help you reclaim Biblical marriage and parenting. For you to discover and embrace God's design and not to be ashamed, discouraged or feel diminished in this calling. There is so much beauty in living slowly, purposefully and biblically. Our prayer is that after each episode you walk away encouraged, inspired, educated and challenged.

You thought we were done?! You thought we didn't have the heart to continue?! HA! In your face! We are back and just as Kolbish as ever. In this resurgence episode, we explain where we have been at and why we were there. We also ramble and talk incoherently too; all the stuff you love from us. We are happy to be back and are glad to see you... (metaphorically).
Remember bygone eras when women and men carried themselves a certain way? In this episode we chat about our opinions on what it takes to be a lady or a gentleman. Before you get angry, we are not talking necessarily about gender roles. We discuss characteristics we think ladies and gentlemen should have. I guess the question is, how many wish certain things were like the old days? I know we do.
Oh boy. This is a long one. Well, that is what happens when you let Nathan lead an episode. Time to take your faith seriously y'all. The world is not getting better. Strengthen your faith, so you can strengthen your children. All of this and more, from the porch swing.
Join us today as we talk about what it looks like to parent kids outside of what is normal in today's culture. Some of you may agree, most of you may disagree, which may prove the point. Where ever you fall, give this is a listen anyway.
We. Are. Back! Did you think we were done? Shame on you. We will never be done! You are stuck with us until this internet fad is over.
We have some dreams. Dreams that, if the Lord wills it, we want to have come true in our future. In this episode we chat about what does it mean for us to dream together as husband and wife. Are we always on the same page? Are there compromises? Are there win/lose situations? Will we need some conflict resolution after this recording? The answer to all of these questions is "probably not," but they will be discussed today on our porch swing.
Show of hands, who likes getting gifts? Ok ok put your hands down. You know who loves getting presents? Kids. Christmas is that time when gifts are the focus of this season. Let's talk about what we can do to make giving and receiving gifts meaningful. This may be difficult for the kids and if we are honest, us adults too. Amiright?
Take a look at the 5 and 10 everyone! It's that time again. The time we all wish to enjoy like the days of old, when we were youngsters. How can we get the joy of Christmas we once had? Well, in a phrase ... make it more purposeful. Listen in and we will try to answer that question and more on this episode!
Hey Hey! Welcome to back to the porch! Don't mind us, we will just be swinging here in your face. Kim and Nathan discuss the mindset that culture has about the things that are "must haves." Why must we feel like we need the latest and greatest? Who is to blame for this? Consumerism? Influencers? Those fat cats in Washington? Or, dare I say, is it us to blame for our own level of contentment? Topics like this and more (maybe), on this episode of FTPS. (That's "From The Porch Swing")
Welcome to our dozenth episode Thanksgiving special! We here at the studio (our living room) talk about giving thanks with some very special guests. Join us all for a laid back episode with many historical inaccuracies... Seriously. Take a tally on how many things we get wrong.
Gather around listeners and let's share a meal and connect. Welcome to From the Porch Swing. Today we discuss why cooking and eating together is not just nice, but essential. If you disagree, then listen and find the faults in our reasoning.
What kind of title is that? Well, get through this episode and find out. How's that for incentive? ... Not good enough you say? Fine... Just listen because you love us. Anyway, we believe that some many things start and grow in the home. In order for this to occur we need to be in the home. Homesteading. That is our topic for today. Listen... Learn... Laugh... Lament... um, Lodge?.... Lunch... Some other word that starts with "L"
BOO! Hahahaha... Gotcha! But seriously, on this very spooky episode of From the Porch Swing, we chat about this wickedest of nights the Earth sees every autumn. How should Christians treat Halloween? Our thoughts may surprise you. Hopefully we can help discuss some aspects of this holiday without making people mad. But if you do get mad, that's fun too. Trick or Treat listeners... (sinister laugh).
That's right folks. You heard it here first. Kim and I believe children are a blessing. Think you can change our minds? Well, think again. In this episode, we expound on why we know this to be true. Now if you will excuse me, one of our blessings is fighting with another blessing... Enjoy the show.
We live in a time where things are so readily available, we can fill up every second of our free time if we choose to. And let us be honest, we do choose it and desire it. However, once our time is filled, we consume so much but will be losing what may be the most important. We on this Porch Swing are striving to quiet some of that noise and slow down. Maybe we can convince you of the same?
Welcome back to The Porch Swing. Did you know we homeschool our chillens? Yes, we are "those" people. But did you realize that "those" people are rapidly growing in these United States? Well it's true. Kim has always wanted to, and Nathan has not. But now we are. So listen, if you will, to our opinions and what we believe are good reasons to do this. You may agree with what we say... you may not. But that is why this episode is called Why WE Homeschool, and not Why EVERYONE Should Homeschool.
Is it just me, or does the perfection shown on the Instagrams and the Facebooks seem too good to be true? Well guess what... it almost always is too good to be true. I'd wager it's one in a million that what you see isn't doctored or edited or staged or down right lies. So what can we do to make our lives more than what we see on other's pages? Hopefully we answer that today on From the Porch Swing.
Hello there! Episode 4 is here, and Kim is fired up! This is a topic that just pushes the right buttons on her circuit board. In a good way? Or in a bad way? Find out this week on From the Porch Swing!
P.S. The same audio issues in the previous episode are here in this episode as well. But rest assured episode 5 will have this issue resolved.
Can you believe it? We made it to episode 3! In this episode Kim talks about motherhood and being the wife she wants to be; looking at them with historical, cultural, and Biblical context. Feathers will most likely be ruffled, so prepare for that.
Technical Difficulty Warning (TDW for short: Unless you're a jeweler or in the military): This episode was accidentally recorded on the built in microphone of the recording device instead of the plug in microphone, which is much better. The audio quality will be lower and have a slight echo that may be noticeable to most listeners.
Welcome to the 2nd episode! Nathan talks a bit too much about his thoughts on fatherhood and husbandry. What will he say? Will he make sense? Will Kim roll her eyes? Who is writing this description? Find out these answers and more on this action packed installment of From the Porch Swing!
(Nathan definitely wrote this description)
Hello and welcome to our podcast! In this episode we share the past 15 years of our relationship from the time we started dating to our present day living. We want you to know a little about us and the purpose behind our desire to start this podcast. In our marriage we often feel the closest when we converse about life. Join us on our "porch" as we talk to each other topics that are big and small that make up this earthly existence.
