Donovan Mitchell or Devin Booker? We get into that. Also, why are the Jazz in the middle of the pack defensively? How are they top 3 in both eFG% and TS% and not more elite on offense? The Suns seem a bit on track for the first time in quite a while. What do we make of them that might be sustained going forward? The Raptors are such a smart team and so fun to watch. Did we learn anything watching them play this week? All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen
The Andre Drummond era is over in Detroit. The NBA era of Christian Wood is materializing. What did we learn within him, Brown, Svi and Sekou this week? In Brooklyn Spencer Dinwiddie and Caris LeVert are serving as semi-permanent understudies to Kyrie and KD. How is that going? Not awesome. Are you souring on Bradley Beal? We are not. Would we pau Davis Bertans or Christian Wood more this summer. That’s easy to us… what about you? Did we learn anything about the Wizards young players this week? All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen
Dane Moore joins to discuss our views of the market and landscape as the NBA trade deadline approaches this week.@DaneMooreNBA@willis_glen
Full Court Press NBA Podcast Episode 155 Celtics Grizzlies Pelicans AnalysisTo begin, we try to share a bit of how the tragedy that took the lives of nine people, including Kobe Bryant, impacted us and the way we see the important people in our lives. The Celtics are building up to be a real force to deal with in the Eastern Conference. Why do we think that? The Grizzlies have something special in Ja Morant and he is a uniquely awesome fit in what Taylor Jenkins wants from a point guard. What trajectory are they on as a franchise? The Pelicans are an exciting young team but the current roster is a mess. Why?All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen Links to plays we discussed:https://streamable.com/9miy6 https://streamable.com/h2e2lhttps://streamable.com/1dgc7
The Heat have already won 30 games. But their rotation has a few players that make us question if they can continue at their current win rate without roster changes. Why is that? The Spurs aren’t special on either end of the court but they are fun to watch. Do they have any capacity for improvement? Did we learn anything at all watching the Thunder this week? All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen
The Nuggets are settled back into the top of the Western Conference standings. Are they better than they were last year? The Mavericks are a year ahead of plan, clearly. How good is the group of players they have put around Luka Doncic? What’s up with the play of Doncic in the fourth quarter? Is everything fine in Atlanta or is the franchise on fire? Plus, our awards for the week. All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen
Full Court Press NBA Podcast Episode 152 Rockets Pacers Bulls AnalysisWe know more about how the Rockets want to play with Westbrook on the roster. Capella continues to offer increasing value. They have a (statistically) phenomenal offense and average defense. What more did we see? The Pacers are fascinating in how they handle Sabonis plus Turner minutes and then Sabonis only then Turner only minutes… why? The Bulls are so good on defense and have one player holding them back on offense. Plus our awards for the week. All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen
The Heat got a top-12 player in Jimmy Butler and moved on from Hassan Whiteside. The rest of the changes were largely made at the margins. Can they return a top-10 defense? Do they have enough shooting to surround Butler? Is Justise Winslow ready to take a significant step? The Blazers new roster is loaded with guards and bigs and now much in the way of wing depth. What are they trying to accomplish with this roster construction? Why is Damien Lillard not getting any MVP odds from Vegas? All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Magic returned to the playoffs last year under the leadership of Steve Clifford. The are bringing just about everyone back with the sole veteran addition of Al-Faruq Aminu. The should only get better, right? It may very well depend upon whether the youngsters Mo Bamba and Markelle Fultz being allowed to play through mistakes. The Grizzlies moved on from Marc Gasol and Mike Conley since this time last season. They are rebuilding around a nice collection of young players in Ja Morant, Brandon Clarke, Jaren Jackson Jr., Tyus Jones and others. Under new head coach Taylor Jenkins what does this season hold for them? All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Boston Celtics were mentally broken at the end of last season. Now the Brooklyn Nets have signed up to deal with the things that come along with Kyrie Irving. Kemba Walker is now the third elite offensive point guard Brad Stevens has had on his team. Will it be a seamless transition? Having lost both Al Horford and Aaron Baynes what will they do at the center position? The Nuggets return a very talented team? Are they ready to ascend to the top of the Western Conference? With Nikola Jokic and Jamaal Murray as their top players how far can the duo take the team? All of this and more. @LawtonWillis@willis_glen Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode interesting offseason moves made by the Charlotte Thunder and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Hornets saw Kemba depart for Boston and brought in former Celtics guard Terry Rozier. How does that set them up for short term or long term prospects of winning? Also how does the loss of Kemba impact the development timelines of Miles Bridges, Malik Monk and the other young players on the roster? The Thunder saw another franchise player(s) leave town, but since losing Kevin Durant for nothing in return Sam Presti has managed to get a nice return for Paul George and Russell Westbrook. Where does that leave the franchise at the moment apart from having the best draft capital in the league? All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode interesting offseason moves made by the Atlanta Hawks and the Utah Jazz. The Hawks spent a ton of draft capital to acquire De’Andre Hunter and later drafted Cam Reddish. Despite the fact that their best defensive players and best shooters from last season have moved on some expect them to make the playoffs. Is that at all realistic? The Jazz stepped and acquired Mike Conley in an attempt to get to the top of the Western Conference. Is that enough. How will Conley’s presence effect the role of Donovan Mitchell? All of this and more. @LawtonWillis@willis_glen Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Two of the bigger winners in July free agency were the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Clippers. In this episode Glen and Dane discuss which team will have the better defense in the 2019-2020 NBA season. Why the Sixers still might need more playmaking and shooting and why the Clippers absolutely still need to add another center to the roster.@willis_glen@DaneMooreNBALearn more about your ad choices. In this episode we review the interesting offseason(s) that the two teams that played in the NBA finals a few months back have had to navigate. The Toronto Raptors are largely running it back without Kawhi Leonard. Can Pascal Siakam pick up enough offensive workload to make them relevant in the Eastern Conference this season? The Warriors lost a host of relevant players including Kevin Durant. Klay Thompson is not likely to contribute much during the regular season. What will D’Angelo Russell look like playing next to Steph Curry. @LawtonWillis@willis_glen Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Chicago has an exciting group of young players but a lot of observers seem excited about them as a team to move up significantly in the standings this season. Do Dane and Glen see it that way? Also, is there any reason to think the Bulls and Kris Dunn will reach agreement on an extension before October deadline? In Dallas it's all about Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis this season. What do we expect from the duo? All of this and more.Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Nets were one of the big winner this offseason using two maximum contract slots to lure Kyrie Irving and an injured Kevin Durant to Brooklyn. They have been a darling of the league the last few seasons punching, at times, above their weight with a combination of a solid culture and ascending players such as Spencer Dinwiddie and Caris LaVert. Now that they are talented as, basically, any team in the league will they be able to put it all together in year one and be a real contender? The Pelicans won the Zion lottery (literally), traded a no doubt top 10 player in the league and added veterans such as JJ Redick and Derrick Favors. Will they have a singular objecting on the season (win as many games as possible?) Or will there also be a developmental objective that at times takes a higher priority? All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Many observers seem to think the Wizards will be the worst team in the NBA this season. Glen is not buying that, why? What even should the objective be for Washington? Few people seem to notice that Isaiah Thomas is likely to be the starting point guard for this team, that should be a bigger story. The Timberwolves have, once again, done a full reset. But this looks like a more credible organization under the new leadership of Gersan Rossas. Potentially for the first time they will be going all in on building around Towns. What could that look like statistically? All over this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
There seems to be a lot of optimism in Detroit about the Pistons. They added Derrick Rose but not much shooting and offensive firepower otherwise. The got basically full seasons from Blake Griffin and Reggie Jackson last season. How likely is that to be replicated? We like Bruce Brown quite a bit. What are our expctations? In Sacramento the  Kings added Dewayne Dedmon, Trevor Ariza and Corey Joseph to one of the most exciting young-ish teams in the league. Will they be able to improve upon their 39 win total from last season?@LawtonWillis@willis_glen Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Indiana Pacers were extremely resourceful this offseason after seeing many of their key players from last season moved on. The pounced om Malcolm Brogdon with a sign and trade and nabbed TJ Warren when the Phoenix Suns were looking to create cap space for some reason. Victor Oladipo is not likely to be back until some time in 2020. Can they contend to host a first-round playoff series this season? The Spurs are the Spurs. More of the same seems likely except that Dejounte Murray should give them a full season. What will the ultra-talented Lonnie Walker give them? Will the dense improve from 20th last season to better than league average if DeMarre Carrol gets a handful of what were Marco Belinelli minutes last season? All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The NBA landscape after July free agency and trades. How many true contenders are there? How many teams are just 1 or 2 in season moves from making themselves a contender? Which teams were to aggressive as the field opened up in a real way for the first time in several years? All of this and more.@willis_glen@DaneMooreNBALearn more about your ad choices.
