Tu idea de Extremadura cambia radicalmente cuando llegas a Garciaz. Todo lo que imaginas de esta tierra se viene abajo entre los desfiladeros de interminables montañas que se suceden a nuestro paso. Un complejo sistema de valles, cuasi paralelos, que nacen de las cumbres que nos separan de las Vegas del Guadiana y dirigen sus aguas hacia el Norte, buscando el río Tajo.

Welcome to the celestial viewpoint of Garciaz, a magical place where you can enjoy the beauty of the Extremaduran sky. Garciaz is a small town in the Villuercas region, surrounded by nature and heritage.
At the end of the 13th century or the beginning of the 14th century, the cowherd from Cáceres, Gil Cordero, after a miraculous apparition, found the image of the Black Virgin hidden somewhere in the deep mountains of Las Villuercas. From there, a sanctuary is established that begins to receive pilgrims from its closest environment.
The bridges are one of the most visible faces of the immense heritage that Garciaz treasures. The complexity of the mountainous systems, their valleys and scrambles make a good road network essential with important infrastructures that keep the roads open all year round.
The roll or pillory rises in the center of the Plaza de España with a height of 5.60 m. This is not its original location, before it was on Cerro de la Horca, on the outskirts of the municipality, next to the current cemetery.
Among the residents of Garciaz who went to America in the 16th century, the figure of Diego Téllez, son of Pedro and María Díaz, stands out. He marched to Mexico in the year 1523 and participated in the conquest of Nueva Galicia in the year 1531 carrying out the position of encomendero.
It is located in the area known as Los Campos de La Portera. It is the most visible point of an archaeological field of several hectares, the ruins of a building that has undergone different uses and transformations throughout history.
The original building dates back to the SXVI. There was a hermitage at each cardinal point, coinciding with the roads, on the outskirts. Of the four, only this one remains, whose set was restored in 2009.
This hermitage was originally the church of the Hospital de la Caridad which, when it was disentailed in the 19th century, the building was occupied by two national schools.
It is a must visit if you want to know one of the historical and artistic treasures of Extremadura. This church is the result of several centuries of construction and reforms, which reflect the evolution from the Gothic to the Renaissance and Baroque styles. Its origins may be in the fourteenth century.

A finales del siglo XIII o principios del XIV el pastor de vacas cacereño Gil Cordero, tras una milagrosa aparición, encontró la imagen de la Virgen negra escondida en algún lugar de las profundas sierras de Las Villuercas. A partir de ahí se establece un santuario que comienza a recibir peregrinos de su entorno más cercano
Los puentes son una de las caras más visibles del inmenso patrimonio que atesora Garciaz. La complejidad de los sistemas montañosos, sus valles y revueltas hacen imprescindibles una buena red de caminos con infraestructuras importantes que mantengan las vías abiertas todo el año.
El rollo o picota se levanta en el centro de la Plaza de España con una altura de 5,60 m. Esta no es su ubicación originaria, antes estuvo en el Cerro de la Horca, a las afueras del municipio, junto al actual cementerio.
Entre los vecinos de Garciaz que marcharon a América en el siglo XVI destaca la figura de Diego Téllez, hijo de Pedro y María Díaz. Marchó a México en el año 1523 y participó en la conquista de Nueva Galicia en el año 1531 desempeñando el cargo de encomendero.
Se encuentra en el paraje conocido como Los Campos de La Portera. Es el punto más visible de un campo arqueológico de varias hectáreas, las ruinas de un edificio que ha sufrido diferentes usos y transformaciones a lo largo de la historia.
El edificio original se remonta el SXVI. Había una ermita en cada punto cardinal, coincidiendo con los caminos, a las afueras. De las cuatro, solo queda esta, cuyo conjunto fue restaurado en 2009.
Esta ermita fue originariamente la iglesia del Hospital de la Caridad que, al ser desamortizado en el siglo XIX, fue ocupado el edificio por dos escuelas nacionales. Entre los años 1748 y 1750 se llevó a cabo una importante remodelación, y fue entonces cuando se construyó la cúpula de la capilla mayor, obra realizada por el maestro cantero Mateo, natural de Trujillo. Fue restaurada en el año 1950, según consta en una inscripción por encima de la ventana del Altar Mayor.
