Hi remember me? I have a lot of explaining to do and I decided to do it in the most authentic way possible. I'm in quite the transitional period and feel awful for my lack of consistency on the podcast, so I hope this provides some clarity to you. I'm not gone forever, but just expect some changes. ;) If you don't please follow along on Instagram. I am by far the most active and consistent there as GOAL Traveler and The Just Go Network rebrand and evolve. Hope to hear from you over there!  @goaltraveler @whereinhanoi

Today on episode 75 we will be speaking to Ellen Downes with Fashion Revolution. BIO: Entrepreneur and slow fashion activist, Ellen has a background in business, events, and fundraising. In 2015 she co-founded outdoor cinema company Enchanted Cinema through which she pursued her passion to support local and independent business and engage in social justice and sustainability through art. Having always bought and sold vintage, Fashion Revolution Vietnam has provided a platform through which she can also work with and promote the work of vintage shops in Vietnam who support the notion that clothes should not be seen as disposable, but as items to love and make last! Ellen is passionate about the importance of celebrating, preserving and supporting the work of local designers and makers in Vietnam and wants to focus the Fashion Revolution movement in Vietnam towards also raising the voices of garment factory workers, the majority of whom are female, who are producing in unsafe and undignified conditions. Ellen coordinates Fashion Revolution for Vietnam and also action and events in Hanoi.   TOPICS DISCUSSED ON THIS PODCAST: Discovering your creative voice. Ellen has always had an entrepreneurial side to her but being an advocate for fashion and body positivity was not in her original plans. We share how she grew from studying French in the UK to becoming a voice for a better fashion industry. What is Fashion Revolution - How and why Ellen got involved in spreading the movement focusing on fast fashion on the other side of the globe, Vietnam How relocating has provided a deeper connection to what she advocates. Ellen may have realized this passion to spread the word of sustainable and ethical fashion, but the travels that brought her to Vietnam has allowed her to work and connect on an even deeper level. She has met with an array of craftsmen and is helping provide a bigger platform for their voices and work. TODAY ON EPISODE 77 WE WILL BE SPEAKING TO ANNA VALERO WITH TAMGA DESIGNS. Anna is a dear friend of mine that I connected with immediately when I arrived in Vietnam. She is a veteran in my eyes as an ex-pat. She is open and easy to chat with and took me in during the pivotal moment of not knowing how I was going to spend my days. I am internally grateful for her. Our weeks are regularly scheduled around multiple coffee dates where we have begun to know each other quite well. The moment I heard about her brand Tamga I was intrigued by her story. How does this sweet Spanish native find herself in Vietnam designing wonderfully curated sustainable fashion? I had to learn more. I am so proud of what she is doing and can’t advocate for her brand enough. This episode is inspiring for anyone looking to pursue a career in the very complicated fashion industry, but most importantly it’s inspiring to remind you that education is key. It’s her constant need to grow that has led her to build a brand that is working alongside our planet and not against it. BIO: Anna Valero was born and raised in Spain under a family in the textile business. Fashion has always been a part of her life but she was determined to learn from the ground up by educating herself around the world. Anna studied abroad in Italy, worked heavily in the family business, expanded to educating and managing teams in factory/production level of Bangladesh, to eventually co-creating her own sustainable and ethically made designer line, Tamga.   TOPICS DISCUSSED ON THIS PODCAST: The importance of learning all aspects of the industry - Anna Dives into how she felt college wasn’t enough for her to feel ready to create something of her own. She was determined to learn all aspects of the industry to truly be inspired by creating a quality product that led her down so crazy journeys around the world. How working abroad opened up her eyes to the many faults in the fashion world. Anna explains how through her experience at the factory production level and the connections she made abroad, she quickly became educated on how unsustainable and unethical the industry is and how she wanted to be part of the change.  Building a brand abroad.  With the help of her two partners, she was able to create a brand that felt morally right in the industry. A brand that began in Bali and is now ran from Canada and Vietnam.  FOLLOW TAMGA: WEBSITE  FOR 15 % OFF USE CODE - GONETWORK15 INSTAGRAM   FOLLOW GOAL TRAVELER: INSTAGRAM (where we are 90 % of the time) FACEBOOK GROUP (join our like-minded community) CONTACT US (office@goaltraveler.com)   GOAL OF THE WEEK: TIP “Talk to your neighbors. In today’s world, it is difficult to have a day go by without hearing the threat of the planet due to over consumerism and plastic consumption. Trash is growing at alarming rates and we fear we won’t be able to turn back. Our voices about spreading its awareness and changing our mindset on our habits have never been more vital than today. I am so excited to share this artists take on our world of trash. She has found a way to love what we all hate and open our minds about its uses in the most creative of ways. One of the simplest ways of slowing down our consumption is by finding new ways to reuse what we own. Ariela has created some of the most beautifully unique ways to put an ordinary plastic bag on display. I hope this inspires you all to stop before throwing something in the trash. I hope it causes you to think that possibly there is a better use than placing in the bin. Even better I hope this sparks creativity to help add in the aid of a cleaner greener planet. Take the time this episode to click on Ariela’s links to fully appreciate her work. BIO: Ariela Kader is a Costa Rican artist and teaching artist who has been making art out of trash and plastic bags for almost a decade. Ariela believes that "we are more what we throw away than what we consume" and states that "if trash is everyone's problem then it is also everyone's resource", a statement that she puts in practice in her studio as well as in her Trash2Art workshops. Ariela dreams of the near future when her artworks will not only be exhibited in art museums but also history museums to show future generations what a plastic bag once looked like and all the harm that this artifact caused to our environment. In hopes for a cleaner and more colorful world!   TOPICS DISCUSSED ON THIS PODCAST: Finding love for trash - It began with her move to New York City where everyone looks up, Ariela looked down. Overconsumption was always a big problem, so she was determined to find a way to not only make us see the issue but also think about reusing what we already have. How travel can play a big role in inspiring an artist. Ariela shares how she had a traveling studio that brought her to 12 different locations that inspired several new art concepts. Motivating the change abroad.  Ariela began workshops in under privledge communities to educate and inspire change. She opens the eyes of young children to look for opportunities around them in an environment that lacks creativity. She motivates them to see the world differently to help enjoy the cleanup process that can lead to creative new ideas. Today on episode 72 we will be speaking to Brent & Michael from brentandmichaelaregoingplaces.com. BIO: Brent Hartinger and Michael Jensen are novelists, screenplay writers, columnists, and travel bloggers currently traveling the world as digital nomads.   TOPICS DISCUSSED ON THIS PODCAST: Selling it all for nomad living- Brent and Michael were one of the few who acted on what they said. You wouldn’t believe what the final straw was for them to actually pick up and go, it’s a common complaint many Americans had, but very few made the moves to do. How two opposite personalities balance their travels. One is adventurous and the other is cautious, but the two different dynamics create a wonderful balance when exploring the world. Being a slo-mad. Nomads are expected to be on the move constantly but as couple in their 50’s they decided to take, what they call, a “slomad” approach to travel. They are on-the-go but on a much slower pace and highly suggest others to give it a try. Traveling as a gay couple . Brent and Michael share their experiences in other countries that may not be as open to LGBTQ communities. They share their insight on how to be sure they are safe and comfortable wherever they choose. And they drop some surprising evaluations that only came about because of taking the leap to travel. FOLLOW BRENT & MICHAEL: WEBSITE  FACEBOOK INSTAGRAM FOLLOW GOAL TRAVELER: INSTAGRAM (where we are 90 % of the time) FACEBOOK GROUP (join our like-minded community) CONTACT US (office@goaltraveler.com) GOAL OF THE WEEK: CHALLENGE “The next time you plan a trip challenge yourself to slo-mad it. Stay for a month or longer. Try and put down your roots.” “Go somewhere in your city unfamiliar. Try something you never tried and reflect on the experience.”
