Former Nexon CEO Owen Mahoney has been on a blogging tear lately, calling out industry execs for boneheaded fad-chasing, breaking down the economics of game development, and, yes, singing the praises of generative AI.
His posts have rumbled across LinkedIn and through the private chats of industry executives. This week, we’re sitting down with Mahoney to ask about what game companies can do to survive the ongoing financial hardship—and press him about his thinking on why genAI is a supposed game-changer for game development.

I listen to a few game dev podcasts and they're really helpful for learning about the industry. One thing I keep hearing is how important it is to choose the right engine for your project. I was trying to build my game from scratch at first but that was taking forever. After listening to some podcast episodes about different engines I decided to switch to Unity since it's what most indie developers use. I ended up getting help from professionals at https://kevurugames.com/game-development/unity-game-development-services/ because I was still learning how to use all the features properly. They knew all the tricks and shortcuts that would have taken me months to figure out on my own
