We come here to say goodbye to Game of Thrones. While we're still going to get to play around in this universe courtesy HBO's numerous prequels, sequels, and spin-offs planned, and of course George's assurances that he's still writing, we're not going to get any more of this particular take on the story. How do we feel about this? Does The Last Watch documentary change those feelings? We discuss these and more before getting the final words from feedback. We'll see you all for "Fire & Blood" and the prequels!Gods of Thrones  is now 25% off!  Check out the preview chapter and then lock in the savings! In our penultimate podcast for HBO's Game of Thrones, we invite Gods of Thrones co-author Anthony Le Donne back to the studio to discuss how the book might resolve in ways that are consistent, but perhaps more satisfying, than some found the show's resolution. Then we're off to feedback, where we talk about Martin's progress on Winds, our thoughts on Bran the Broken, where things line up with Dany's prophecies in the final analysis, and much more on "The Iron Throne". See you next week as we sign off and transform the podcast into a Thrones prequels feed!If you're curious about the scene mentioned on the pod where Jon Snow talks about dragon psychology before he slips and falls.Gods of Thrones  is now 25% off!  Check out the preview chapter and then lock in the savings! 806 - The Iron Throne

Winter came and went, an evil queen was overthrown, and it was so nice we had to do it twice. "The Iron Throne" is Game of Thrones attempt to hurry up and tie up all those loose ends. Was it satisfying? That depends on how you've felt about the show for the past two seasons. Ultimately, this show's final moments and it's place in the pantheon of television will be a matter of hot debate for years to come, to say nothing of the novels and prequels and sequels we'll be getting, and how that may change and influence how we feel. Here, we're content to just talk about our personal thoughts on the only definitive finale of The Song and Ice and Fire. We'll be back Friday for more SpoiLore talk, and next week we'll have a look back at the season, and series, as a whole as we wrap things up for now.Game of Thrones may be over, but Bald Move's television year is just getting started! New seasons of hit shows such as Stranger Thingsand The Expansewill be returning as well as exciting new series such as Watchmen, and His Dark Materials. Jim and I try to sort through everyone's reactions and feelings about "The Bells", as well as people's reactions to our reactions! In a wide ranging podcast, we discuss what we're still hoping to see in next week's finale episode, what Dany's descent to madness means in the context of portrayals of heroic women, thoughts on capital punishment and vengeance, and defenses and deconstructions of Arya and Jaime's arcs. All this plus a ton of great feedback from you, the listener. Just one more episode left, we'll see you Sunday night to discuss!Gods of Thrones  is now 25% off!  Check out the preview chapter and then lock in the savings! 805 - The Bells

2019-05-1402:30:253

It's time to have a family discussion about Game of Thrones episode 805, "The Bells". Because we're all up in arms about it and we can't agree if it's the best, most satisfying episode or the worst ever. It's notoriously hard to be objective about a subjective opinion, but we try our level best. Our considered thoughts on Jaime's arc, the CLEGANEBOWL!!!!, Arya rejecting the call to vengeance, and the Mad Queen Daenerys await you -- if you dare! Then we don our asbestos underwear and wade into your feedback on this incredibly divisive episode of #DemThrones. We'll be back Friday for more thoughts on this episode and what it means for George Martin and his adaptation of the hit television series on the SpoiLore podcast. See you then!Gods of Thrones  is now 25% off!  Check out the preview chapter and then lock in the savings! Jim and I are here to talk everyone through their complicated feelings about "The Last of the Starks", as well as to sit in judgment of the latest batch of fan theories. I lead a group therapy session, and struggle to come to grips with my conflicting thoughts on Dany's possible turn as heel, as Jim tries to steer me away from some unsound theory investments. Also, thoughts on the on-set secrecy of Game of Thrones and how it may have impacted the production this season. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

804 - The Last of the Starks

2019-05-0702:18:292

As we announced last week, we've declared #FanBankruptcy, and are along for the ride on this saddleless dragon we call Game of Thrones. Keeping this in mind, it was nice to see this episode, "The Last of the Starks", run back to their roots in setting up some classic court politics and intrigue, with multiple betrayals and backstabbing in the offing! Jaime and Brienne hooked up! Pod is still very much the Rod! The Stark girls won grim smiles from the Hound! On the other hand, they're still struggling with the way they are telling the story they want to tell; characters die in unbelievable ways, and crucially characters then later live in completely unbelievable ways. With just two more episodes left, hopefully the Double D's haven't declared creative bankruptcy and we'll get a few twists and turns that manage to please most. Thanks to everyone who voted last week, we have released a preview chapter for our new book, Gods of Thrones! It's perhaps hard to wrap one's mind around what a pseudo-scholarly satirical take on the religions and cultures of Game of Thrones actually looks like, and now you don't have to guess. If you dig the preview and want to get to the owning a copy stage, volume one and volume two  are now available in paperback and e-book formats at Amazon!Last call for our exclusive "House Snow" enamel pins! Jim and A.Ron mine the hidden depths of Game of Thrones extensive lore and backstory to answer your questions and debate fan theories. Is Hot Pie the last, best hope for the North? Is Harrenhal the ultimate anti-wight hideout? How does the battle of the dead vs. the living look from a numbers perspective? Are there any Children of the Forest left in the world? What was the meaning and possible  significance of Jenny's Song from the latest episode? All this and more are discussed in this episode! If you can't get enough Thrones content, may I humbly suggest Gods of Thrones, a book series I co-wrote with a religious scholar on the cults, customs, and characters of A Song of Ice and Fire. Volume one and volume two  are now available in paperback and e-book formats at Amazon! He might be prone to brooding and in fact Know Nothing, but he's still our KING IN DA NORF WARDEN OF DA NORFFF!!! Jim and A.Ron get sentimental over the very nostalgic episode of Game of Thrones, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”. Given the way this episode ends, this might be the last bit of sweetness and light many of these characters receive. Gulp. Dany is having trouble sharing power, Tyrion struggles to get his mojo back, Arya is looking for love in all the right places, and then damn near the entire gang gets together for an extremely fun, extremely heartwarming fireside chat. Next week the dead will be here; we’ll enjoy these final moments with our favorite characters while we still can.If you can’t get enough Thrones content, may I humbly suggest Gods of Thrones, a book series I co-wrote with a religious scholar on the cults, customs, and characters of A Song of Ice and Fire. Jim and A.Ron are here to delve into the deeper mysteries of Game of Thrones, discussing the lore, prophecies, and world building that make Thrones great. Some of this material could be construed as spoilery, as it involves informed speculation about events that could happen on the show based on material found in the A Song of Ice and Fire series.  We do not discuss production spoilers or leaks on this podcast. Today we talk dragons in the north, Valonqar prophecies, the weirdification of Bran Stark, Night King plots and much more! If you’re interested in finding out more about Gods of Thrones, a book I wrote about the religions and cultures of Westeros, you can find volume one and volume two on Amazon in eBook and dead-tree editions! 801 - Winterfell

2019-04-1602:04:242

Jim and A.Ron are here to break down all the action from this week’s premiere episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones, “Winterfell”. And indeed the ancestral home of House Stark houses the direwolf’s share of the action and intrigue, as characters are reunited, dragons are flown, and divisions within the forces of the Living threaten to undermine the war against the Dead. It’s clear that sharing power and cooperating is going to be a challenge, not only for Jon and Dany, but for the many different peoples who have thrown in their lot with them. We’ll be back Friday for our SpoiLORE edition that delves into the background details of the World of Ice and Fire as well as mines for hidden details that may yet remain in the source books! You can get 25% off all annual memberships to Club Bald Move from now until May 7th!A.Ron wrote two books on Game of Thrones religions and culture! They’re fun and informative, and feature amazing exclusive Thrones inspired artwork! We also have exclusive “House Snow” enamel pins and matching t-shirts if you’d like to show your allegiance to the once and future king! This podcast is sponsored by eero, because life is too short for bad wifi. Hello Baldmove. You were wondering if there ever were other dragon-on-dragon battles. If memory serves, I can think of three movies, though The Long Night certainly has the longest scenes of dragons battling. The first Dungeons&Dragons movie has some scenes of red and gold dragons fighting and crashing into each other, poor movie though. The second Dragonheart movie has also baby gold and big red dueling. Last is Eragon, when the warlock summons a sort of ghost dragon and rides that into battle.

the fact that even these guys are in shock of the farce that was this ending really shows how bad the show ended up.

Dany went crazy just like her dad. Jaime killed Dany's dad because he went berzerk roasting everyone, and it's obviously a mental illness that runs in the family.

The idea of Greyworm on the council is ridiculous, he's been essentially the leader of Dany's genocide the last 2 episodes.

I'm sorry but you guys are sounding like that friend who's in love with an arsehole & when they finally see it everybody else is like hey well love really is blind, huh!? o_0 Dani has been betrayed by EVERYONE close to her, apart from Mesendai who has just been killed in front of her, & Grey worm. She asked Jon not to tell anyone about his parentage & he immediately defied her wishes. Tyrion is blatantly pushing his own agenda and not hers. She has been showing for a while that she will rule with an iron hand. killing all who do not bend to her. (Sam's family) She is not wanted as queen in the north. she's been becoming increasingly isolated over some time. Jon's betrayal ,honouring his Stark ties over his loyalty to her, & then rejection of her as a lover..combined with losing the one last person she trusted are just what would push her over the edge. She hasn't been the "one good person" for quite some time. increasingly ego driven, rule at all costs & more & more wanting to rule for herself not the people.
