My friend Xaque Gruber wrote and directed a semi-autobiographical film about meeting his idol Sally Kirkland... and that's just the start of the crazy story. But how much of it is true? Geekscapists might not know the name Xaque Gruber but he and I have a history that goes back longer than Geekscape: almost 20 years! We first met while working as Hollywood assistants and while the work was thankless and the pay was worse, Xaque always gave me something to look forward to each day! So of course when I got the chance to have Xaque on the show to talk about his new award-winning film 'Sallywood'. I was going to jump at the chance to catch up with him! The semi-autobiographical 'Sallywood' tells the true story of 20-something "Zack", who moves to Hollywood from Maine to pursue a Hollywood career. In a chance encounter, he meets his lifelong idol Sally Kirkland, who hires him on the spot to be her assistant. Learning that her once Oscar-nominated career is now in shambles, Zack dedicates himself to finding a way to land her back on the red carpet where she belongs! So again... how much of this story is true? Listen to find out! Geekscape 702: Team Goldie!

2024-08-2601:06:56

After 3 weeks... I'm back! And with an awesome guest too! Team Goldie is the solo project of Pennsylvania-based singer, rapper, and multi-instrumentalist Matt DiStefano. Combining elements of hip-hop, punk, and indie-rock into a genre-bending style of pop music, one thing you can say about Team Goldie is that it has 100% geek appeal. Similar to Weezer, Daft Punk, Beastie Boys, N.E.R.D., and Panic! at the Disco, Team Goldie's brand new album 'Trailblazer' will be spinning in your head from the second it starts. And you KNOW I'm speaking from experience! Say hi to one of your new favorite artists! San Diego Comic Con 2024 might have been one of the most exciting years of all time! But I wouldn't know because I wasn't really there! But luckily, Matt Kelly and the Geekscape team were there to bring us into the action! Enjoy these interviews from the San Diego Comic Con Booth, directly from the floor, with SDCC personalities like Jim Krueger, Jordan Morris, Tim Baron, Tom Pinchuk, the Fright School Boys, Christian Bladt, and Shane O'Hare! Let's freaking go!!! 'Deadpool & Wolverine' is here and fans are already rejoicing that the MCU is back! But is that the truth...? Or is the third Deadpool movie too little and too late when resetting the Marvel Universe for the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and Avengers films? Who is Casandra Nova? What about Paradox? What was our favorite cameo and does it change anything? This is maybe the most unhinged superhero film of all time so you're gonna want to listen! Plus! Some Hall H talk! Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom? Will we ever see Kang again? What does that mean for the MCU? Geekscape has survived to episode 700. How did this happen? As the team looks forward to this week's San Diego Comic Con, we get together with Matt Kelly, Shane O'Hare, Josh Jackson, Christian Bladt, DJ Wooldridge, and more friends to share memories of Geekscapes past, that time Shane did that awful thing in San Diego (which one?), and more! These anniversary episodes are always full of surprises so you won't want to miss this one! The new Star Wars series 'The Acolyte' just wrapped its first season on Disney+. And were fans happy with what they got? Taking place 100 years before The Prequels, the series introduced all new characters, Jedi martial arts, and ideas about the Force to the established Star Wars canon. Some of those changes made some people crazy. But were there any highlights? Will we get a Season 2? More than anything, I think we were left with a lot of questions. Luckily, Ian Kerner is here to help me wade through all of mine as we discuss 'The Acolyte' on a brand new Geekscape podcast!
