Welcome to our 50th episode! Today we have on the Atlantic White Shark Consevancy's Research Coordinator, Ashleigh Novak, and Research Technician Victoria Migneco. We discuss how to identify a white shark using video footage and how to control a balloon on a string. We also talk about the current drone project the team is working on off Cape Cod and what can we learn from it. Enjoy!
Amani Webber-Schultz is a current PhD student at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, studying shark morphology and swimming biomechanics. She aims to better understand how dermal denticles (the scales on sharks) interact with the water around them and direct flow around their body. Specifically, her PhD is looking at these interactions at their nostrils and tail. Amani is also the Chief Financial Officer for Minorities in Shark Sciences, helping them to open doors for underrepresented groups in the marine science world.  Follow Amani On Instagram On Twitter Buy Gills Club Merchandise! https://www.bonfire.com/org/atlantic-white-shark-conservancy-inc-460949763/ Follow Gills Club: On Instagram On Twitter On Facebook

She completed her PhD through the University of Hull in the UK after spending three years collecting data while stationed at the Bimini Biological Field Station in the Bahamas. She has broad research interests that range from fish energetics to ecology and fisheries. Dr. Brewster uses different types of animal-borne technology to address questions in those fields and is currently involved in numerous sharky and non-sharky projects. She’ll be talking about some of her recent research, which includes looking at the activity of juvenile bull sharks in an estuarine nursery in Florida. Enjoy!
