You love your people… until people get complicated.  Friendship and community can be fun and life-giving, but they can also require vulnerability, forgiveness, accountability and a willingness to let someone see what’s actually going on. In this episode of Girl Talk, Carol, Kelly and Tricia are talking about something Jesus never said: “You have to do life alone.” The truth is, we were created for the “one anothers” - encouraging one another, praying for one another, carrying one another’s burdens and helping one another become more like Jesus. And those kinds of friendships don’t usually happen overnight. They’re built slowly, through showing up, honest conversations and choosing to let people in. The girls talk about the tough side of community: confession, accountability, gossip, church hurt and what happens when trusting people feels risky. Because yes, community is risky. But isolation costs us something too. We may just find that the relationships that have hurt us are also the places where God can bring some of our deepest healing.
Do you ever walk away from a conversation replaying everything you said? Wondering if they liked you, if you disappointed them, or if you should’ve done something differently? Same. On this episode, Carol, Kelly, and Tricia are talking about people pleasing and how something that can look like kindness on the outside can sometimes be rooted in insecurity, fear of rejection, or our need for approval. The goal isn’t to stop caring about people. It’s learning how to live from God’s love instead of constantly working for everyone else’s.
“Follow your heart” sounds good on a coffee mug…but is it actually good advice? This week, Carol, Kelly and Tricia are talking about something Jesus never said: follow your heart. Our emotions are real and God-given, but that doesn’t mean they were designed to lead us in the way we should go - that's the Spirit's job! The girls get honest about anger, anxiety, irritation, gossip, pride and those moments when your feelings are LOUD. They talk about the difference between simply trying to behave better and allowing the Holy Spirit to actually change your heart from the inside out. Plus, what do you do with difficult emotions instead of ignoring them? Is it okay to vent to a girlfriend and when does it turn into gossip? Who makes a good accountability partner? And how can you tell the difference between something you really want and the Holy Spirit actually leading you? The goal isn’t to stop feeling. It’s to bring what you’re feeling to Jesus and let Him lead.
Perfection is exhausting. And yet so many of us feel like we have to keep up the appearance that we’re doing just fine - our families, marriages, work, faith, emotions… all of it. Carol, Tricia and Kelly get honest about the pressure to have it all together, from comparison on social media to fear of rejection, leadership expectations, perfectionism and the temptation to hide the parts of our lives that feel messy. They also talk about what can happen when we stop pretending: our weakness can actually become a place where people see Jesus more clearly. Plus, the Girl Talk group chat gets practical about releasing control, receiving help and recognizing when we’re serving from a place of calling versus trying to fill something only Jesus can fill. Jesus never said you had to have it all together. He invites you to come to Him, and trust that He does.
You finally sit down after a long day…but your mind is still racing. There’s another thing on the to-do list. Something you forgot. Something you're worried about. Something you feel responsible for fixing. Someone you feel responsible for fixing. So how do we actually rest? In this episode of Girl Talk, Carol, Kelly, and Tricia talk about something Jesus never said: “You have to earn your rest.” They get honest about never-ending to-do lists, overthinking, parenting worries, needing a super long nap and the things we sometimes call “rest” that are really just distracting us from our spiritual and emotional health. Rest goes deeper than getting more sleep or taking a day off. What if the rest Jesus offers is really about surrender and trusting Him? What if we’re not resting because we believe we have more responsibility than we really do?  In Matthew 11, Jesus invited the weary to come to Him, WHILE they were weary, not after they figured it all out. Jesus cam to bring peace WITH God and the peace OF God. And when we're tempted to pick the weight back up, we can remember: He's God. We're not. And He's already paid the price.   Scripture Mentioned Matthew 11:28–30 — “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Psalm 23 — “He restores my soul.” Psalm 127:2 — God gives sleep to those He loves. John 15 — Jesus as the vine and His followers as the branches. 1 Peter 5:7 — Cast your cares on Him because He cares for you. The Psalms — discussed as Scripture to listen to and return to when your mind won't quiet down.
