Stick Figure Suicide was a punk rock band from Milltown, New Jersey. The band was formed in 1997, and were part of the emerging emo-punk rock scene of the late 1990s in the Northeast. Their music has been described as a mastery of “old-school hardcore moves and hyperspeed tempos” with clean, precise, over-driven guitars, and they are classified as a blend of fast and melodic hardcore-punk, with lyrics that are occasionally humorous. They drew comparison to the music of the hardcore punk band Minor Threat, and even Against All Authority. Maximumrocknroll described their songs on the Road Kill EP Split with Mohawk Barbie as “displaying some pretty good energy of their own with their early ’90s style hardcore.I got Paul on the Skype and this is what we chat about:
How to develop a screaming voice
Dave Smalley

After every interview on the Girls Who Do Stuff, we do Rapid Fire with our guests. We ask them a bunch of questions and they respond with the first thing that pops into their head.
In This Episode: Sarah is a big fan of reality dating shows, she is a fan of relationships, that's why she spent so much time as a couples therapist. So she was very intrigued when she saw Christian Lee Cones on the show "The Courtship" which is like Bridgerton meets the Bachelor. The Courtships' IMBD description is "Bringing true romance back, this Regency-style series will enable a group of eligible suitors to win the heart of the Heroine. Carriage rides, handwritten letters, this is a time-traveling game for love."Christian Lee Cones talks about the origin story of his journey of self discovery. He had a bit of an awakening during the pandemic, when there was nothing else to do than just sit with his demons. He started educating himself and working on himself wondering when happiness would become a permanent thing instead of just moments of happiness. When asked what was his proudest moment from being on The Courtship, Christian said that although the toxic masculine side of him wants to say winning the festival of strengths (he said jokingly), but it would probably when he came out as sexually fluid on the show.He received a lot for encouragement from people on social media for his bravery and even got messages of how his actions inspired others. We talk about how love is a choice and not just a feeling. So committed relationships continue to choose each other.Christian feels like he is very old fashioned and born at the wrong time.Christian talks about how he was perceived on the show, some people even called him a himbo. We ask if a lot of people have been sliding into his DMs since the show.Episode Sponsor: This episode was sponsored by Tidewater Sandals. In This Episode: We talked about the Hillsong documentary (Hillsong Exposed), which explained the manipulations of the church, and how the trauma of being in a manipulated church can impact a persons life.We talk with Drew Barker who is currently serving in a church in Garner, North Carolina and spent his entire life in ministry in one way or another. Now he has over a decade of ministry experience, stretching from campus pastor to lead pastor to worship minister, guest, experience all across the area. "Leadership is someone that's willing to empathize with you and serve you and is willing to help you discover something new on your own.""We've got to stop teaching that either you're a good leader or a bad leader, or that a leader is a title or where you're positioned in the organization."We talk about how leadership is something that can be learned, it is a skill not a gifting. We discuss how do we get to the lack of accountability? We go into how we are taught that confidence equates arrogance and we are taught these things way early on. And so instead of looking as a confidence, as a strength, as a culture, we're told that we can't be bragging. We can't be proud of our accomplishments. We can't be celebrating because we might have somebody else. The only thing that tips over into arrogance and a lack of humility is the lack of gratitude. We explain how we don't talk about strengths early enough with young people.Accountability is part of the skillset of leadership. When you hear or bear witness to what gives you one? How have you reacted? I'm assuming that you have walked the walk and are like speaking up and then how do you have the courage to hold people accountable and make it not so secret anymore? We talk a lot about the doing what's best for the organization. And what unfortunately happens is you shield the person from the consequences, so nobody who was offended gets to heal. The person who did the offense doesn't get to heal. The goal of us learning from these leaders is this is what was done wrong. Why is this wrong now? How can we learn from this and get better so that we don't do that.Episode Sponsor: This episode of Girls Who Do Stuff is brought to you by Healing Green Farms.
