Our guests today are two men who truly exemplify the traits of kindness, perseverance, and friendship. They have both lived miraculous lives. When Dave was just 10 months old, he contracted polio. His parents were told that he would probably not survive. Not only did he survive but Dave went on to become the only professional baseball player to pitch and play from crutches. Doug had a son who was born with a disability and he was inspired by Dave’s story. Things miraculously fell into place for Doug and Dave to meet and a partnership was formed. They now are inspirational speakers, authors, and run the Disability Dream and Do camp for children with disabilities. Despite the voices that spoke of limitations, he defied the odds and chased his dreams, leading to an invitation from Coach LaVell Edwards. However, at 21 years old, Jeff experienced a life-altering accident, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. While hospitalized and in recovery, a fellow patient asked him a pivotal question: “Why you crying, dude”? He is the developer of an approach called Surgical Empathy which uses radical attunement to connect to people at the core of their angst in a way that unlocks and frees them to survive and thrive. He is the co-creator and moderator of the Amazon Prime documentary, Stay Alive: An Intimate Conversation about Suicide Prevention, the co-founder of a movement entitled: A World Transformed: The Rising Tide that Lifts All Hopes and the co-creator of the Goulston Vohra Happiness Scale an emotional wellness screening tool being utilized by the entire country of India.
