This show is about men. Men that provide for their families, men that protect others, men that step up and take on the jobs that require far more than showing up and punching the clock. Guys that push themselves well beyond their limits because the situation requires it. Shawn is in his late 50's and I am in my mid 60's and for most of our lives we have been invincible, but both of us reached a point where our bodies were unable to keep up with the pace our hearts and minds like to move at. Shawn and I discuss the process of getting healthy again, and how food plays a huge role in making that change.
Bryan Thomas was a statistic. He was raised in a violent and dysfunctional home where alcohol and drug use began early and was a family affair. It started when he was a little boy and by the age of 16 he was a full-blown drug user, and dealer and living the hard and fast life. One night he held up a store at gunpoint and as a result was looking at a potential life sentence. But God had him even then. He served a lengthy prison sentence and that was where he ultimately found God. Today he is the evangelism Pastor at Oceans Unite Christian Center in Vero Beach, Florida. This interview was an emotional one. And while its a story of extremes, many people can identify with the core elements of his walk, very reluctantly, toward a life with Jesus.Buckle up. This one will touch your heart.
Sixty years ago when I was a little boy, my grandparents grew most of their food in the garden on their farm. Manure was the fertilizer, and they couldn't afford pesticides and herbicides but they had old-fashioned ways of keeping the bugs away, and there was enough kids and hoes to take care of the weeds. That food wasn't called organic then, it was just called food. The meat they got from slaughtering an animal that was raised eating grass in a pasture but it wasn't called grass-fed or free range, it was just called beef or chicken or eggs.Between then and now the world changed. Our food, along with our habits, has become the number one killer in America. And people are starting to realize that and are drifting back to doing things the way they did when I was a kid, and centuries before that.My wife Ana is one of those people, and since drastically changing the trajectory of my own life a few years back by changing what and how I ate, I am a true believer as well. Ana and I talk about what that looks like for us and our family in this episode of the Unscripted Podcast. Please join me in my Unscripted Facebook Group if you have any questions, thought, or experiences of your own you wish to share.
If I were to tell you a story about a kid who was raised in an abusive home and who was involved in a highly restrictive religion that only served to turn him away from God, and that kid then embraced drugs and alcohol and all the trappings of the fast life, what would you expect to see in him today?Throw a few years in the Army where he served over two years overseas in a hotly-contested combat zone taking lives and losing friends, and what would you expect to see in him today? Then add in the untimely death of his wife, and PTSD, and what would you expect to see in him today?I sat down with my good friend Andres DeJesus, or Dre as we call him, because the man you would expect to see today is not the man I know and love and count on when the stakes are high and the chips are down.Dre didn't find Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ came to him and during this interview he tells the cryptic story of the night the devil came for his soul, and God saved him.Dre gave his life to Christ and six years later the old Dre is long-gone and the new man is on fire for the Lord. He is a fixture in our church and an integral part of our church safety team. He is tasked with guarding the pastor. He also leads the recovery group at the church every Thursday night. He and his wonderful wife Bonnie lead a home cell Bible study group called a U Group, and they are both enrolled in the four-year Ministry Studies program offered through the church. Dre is a good and devoted husband and family man now, and an incredible friend. He is that guy you can call anytime for anything and he will be there for you. That is what God can do in life everyone has given up on, if they will just commit their life to Christ, and pursue God relentlessly. We hope and kindly ask that you share this podcast with anyone you think may need to hear it.
It's rare to meet someone who has survived a plane crash and even more rare to meet someone who has survived a helicopter crash. You could say then that meeting a pilot who has survived one plane crash and two helicopter crashes during his career, is a very rare thing and most certainly warrants an interview.Shawn Sullivan is military veteran, a former paramedic, a close friend, a brother in Christ, and a commercial airline and helicopter pilot. He is also the son of a Vietnam War veteran helicopter pilot who chalked up no less than five helicopter crashes during his service.Shawn is a professional and very safe pilot with thousands and thousands of flight-time hours. He is meticulous and I would trust him with my life and the lives of my family, but there are inherent risks when you take thousands of pounds of metal, strap an engine to it, and send it up into the atmosphere. We sat down to talk about his experiences, particularly the most recent crash that almost took his life, on the Unscripted Podcast.
Covid decimated her business and when it was all over, she had to decide if it was worth doing it all over again. More and more single dads are raising their kids alone and the challenges are many. Our guest on this episode navigated the tragedy of betrayal and divorce, a very busy and high-pressure career, with raising his two sons on his own. HIs boys are grown now and the family is successful and close. He tells his story and how he not only held it all together, but flourished as a father and a family.
Marty Kinkead was married with two very young sons and was enjoying an incredibly successful career when without warning, his wife was gone. Marty was suddenly a single dad. His boys are now men with careers. One of them has a son, Marty's first grandson that he absolutely loves spending time with.
This podcast is about a dad that went through the experience of raising his sons alone, and Marty has a powerful testimony. And he has some wisdom to share with other men raising their sons as a single parent or facing the prospect of that happening.

My wife and I decided a very long time ago that we would homeschool our kids so that we could have the flexibility to travel and do all the things that fit our lifestyle at the time.
Three years ago we moved to a small city in Florida, found an incredible church, and settled our family into this community.
Looking back, Ana Tigre talks about homeschooling and why we are so dedicated to teaching our kids at home. It's not what we thought when we first decided to homeschool, but Ana is committed to raising our kids the way we are so they are as prepared as possible to be successful adults.

Never in my adult life have I known a time when I trusted elected officials less than I do now. We don't need elected officials. We need leaders. Jesus Christ taught leadership when He washed the feet of his disciples. And when he healed the sick, took care of the needy, and fed the hungry. But most of all, Christ taught leadership when he was tortured and died on the cross for our sins, the ultimate price in service to others. Jesus taught and inspired with His words, but it was his example that changed the world forever more.
True leaders are people who selflessly serve others and make decisions based on what is best for those they are responsible for and the greater good rather than their selfish interests.
Keith Touchberry, I have discovered, is a leader. He first served his country in the Marine Corps. He then devoted his life to serving the community in law enforcement. He serves his family and his friends, and most importantly to him, he serves God as a devoted Christian.
Keith Touchberry's life has been devoted to serving, and to leadership. God has placed the desire in his heart to become the next Sheriff of Indian River County.
When we first met a few months ago, I had some tough questions for him. As a former law enforcement officer I wanted to know how he would solve problems, what he thought the problems were, and why, and I wanted to know what it would be like to work for him as a street cop. I have worked for some good leaders, and I have worked for many colossally poor ones. Before Keith was going to earn my vote, I wanted to make sure I would be serving my community by doing my part to elect the right candidate.
He took the hard questions well, and I was impressed by his philosophies on law enforcement, problem-solving, and most of all, serving the men and women on the street and in the jail that keep us safe. After more than one lengthy conversation I realized this man had no desire to be just an elected official, he was a true leader who not only had the capability, experience, and knowledge to be an outstanding Sheriff; but he explained that he was here to serve those in his charge and create a culture where the Sheriffs department in turn served the community the same way.
When I realized I was listening to him and wishing I was younger and could work under his leadership, I knew I had to get behind his efforts and share what I knew about him.
This episode is 1 hour and 7 minutes long and while that time is limited, I think you will come away, like I did, knowing this man well enough to want to support him in his bid for Sheriff.
Since 2020 life has changed, we have changed, and the Goodlad Unscripted Podcast from back then just isn't a reflection of our world and where I am at any longer. Time for change so this is the newly configured Unscripted Podcast, coming to you from Sunny Florida now instead of Las Vegas, and its taken a twist from what it was.
I hope you enjoy it, the first interview is coming soon.

We roll out of bed at 5am most days, then return to those cozy sheets around 10pm for a few quick hours before we start it all over again. We do our best to start the day with prayer and some Bible time but I would be lying if I told you that is the routine. We want it to be, but four unpredictable small children along with two energetic dogs have a knack for creating emergencies that interrupt or derail those intentions completely. Then there is homeschooling, cooking and cleaning, playdates, errands, designing fitness wear and other BlessedBodywear.com duties, and countless other family related tasks that Ana manages to get done in a day. If I am not welded to the computer I am off workout outside of the house building a brand new business and tending to my share of the BlessedBodywear.com responsibilities. We do our best to get at least one meal together as a family per day, and I try to shut it down and spend some time with the family each day, but again, I would be lying if I told you I succeed.
Busy is a common problem for many people and its a big problem for us. If we are not careful our conversations are only about kids and work. The time we get together as husband and wife often comes at the end of a long and exhausting day when we have little or nothing left in the tank.
We talked about it, and we both wanted to do better so we came up with some solutions that worked for us so we wanted to share that in hopes it will help someone else in the same boat. Never give up on love and never let it grow cold. It needs attention, nurturing, and it needs your time.

Jimi is a friend. We attend the same church, we see things the same in many regards, and we have a heart to serve others. I am a former SWAT Cop and Jimi is a former Special Forces Operator. This is our first podcast together and it opened a can of worms that could well turn into a dozen more shows if we took the notion to do that. Maybe we will. He is an interesting man, a bona-fide tough guy but with a huge heart, and he holds nothing back, unless it's classified. Jimi openly talks about how he grew up, his unlikely encounter with an Army recruiter, and his service to our great nation where he spend over 14 of his 20 years of military service outside of the USA.

I would like to think that every parent wants the very best for their kids. In the same breath, they want their kids to be strong, in every sense, and to have embraced the wisdom imparted to them during the formative years immersed in good parenting and family support.
That’s the storybook hope, at least. The world, however, is teeming with counseling schedules booked solid with parents of bad kids and bad parents of good kids, and every imaginable iteration of each in between.
Daniel Tangi is one of those storybook kids. He isn’t perfect, nor are his parents, but the God they worship as a family is, and because of that, God has been the cornerstone for the Tangi family through the best and the very worst of it. And, it’s God that remains to this day as the cornerstone of seventeen-year-old Daniel's life.
I watched a football game that Daniel played in last year and saw him run the ball. The kid is fast. Beyond fast. He is the kid that blows past every other red-faced and straining kid effortlessly, like they are standing still. College scouts come to his games, salivating, because signing an athlete like Daniel is their Superbowl of success, and for some, he is why they became scouts.
A quiet kid that wants to become a broadcast journalist covering sports, Daniel joins me on the show this week. I think he will be one of those kids that we will all be talking about one day saying, “Remember when Daniel Tangi was a kid, and you did that podcast with him? Look at him now.”
At seventeen he is a man completely devoted to God, his principles, his family, and doing the right thing in faith. He is also an incredible all-round athlete with blistering speed, and a plan for what he wants to do when the stage lights go out and he turns his focus to things beyond athletics.

The freedom of being your own boss and making a living doing something you are passionate about is the stuff that drives so many to become professional personal trainers. There is plenty of demand, countless opportunities for advancement, and the money can be great. Yet most personal trainers that got certified in the past five years are no longer making their living as trainers.
David Puglisi of Sozotraining.com is one of the success stories, and he joins us on the show to tell us how he did it and how he avoided burning out like so many do.

Jared Hudson spent his youth serving our nation as a Navy Seal, then had that dream end too soon because of injuries he earned protecting our country. A career in Law Enforcement was the next chapter. He served as a sheriff’s deputy and predominantly as a trainer, sharing his expertise and experience with officers from agencies around the country. He has a passion for God, for serving others, and for protecting his community and the men and women that serve which has been the driving force behind his decision to run for Sheriff of Jefferson County, Alabama.
Jared is our guest on this episode of the podcast and we have a very open and frank interview about the things that make this American Hero tick.

It's later in life, and you find yourself faced with the prospect of dating again, and the list of unknowns is intimidating. Many of the lessons life has given you resulted in scars, and the whole idea of starting from scratch with someone new is both exciting and scary.
In her late fifties, Elaine Goodlad joins me on this episode to talk about being single at a couple of years short of sixty. And with enough divorces under our collective belts to keep a lawyer in designer suits for years to come, we have some hard-earned advice for those wishing to take that plunge.
As always, I pray it helps someone out there listening.

Ana Tigre and I get into it in this episode of the Unscripted Podcast. She says I'm not perfect, and this coming from someone that...
We all can do better, so why focus on the things that annoy you about your wife or husband? Or your kids, or friends, or anyone else for that matter. The problem may be that we tend to focus on the negative in others rather than the positive, so we only see the negative and miss all the things we could appreciate.
Focussing on the negative and placing blame may be nothing more than a habit. We discuss our realizations and how changing our habits has paid off in a more happy and peaceful home. We also talk about habits and how they can be easily changed so that we don't fall into the negative rut we have learned from others along the way.
As always, we hope this podcast helps someone.

After a five-year break to raise kids, Ana is getting the urge to model for me again, and I couldn't be more excited. It will be different now because she has evolved, and there are stories to tell with pictures that weren't there five years ago. In this episode of the podcast, we talk about her modeling career, what I disliked about photography, how life has changed for us and how she has evolved. We enjoyed making this podcast and are excited to start shooting again.
I've included a small sampling of images we have shot together over the years. Ana is my wife so of course I love her and am proud of her accomplishments, but she is my favorite to work with because she is the most versatile and skilled model I have had the honor of photographing.

Early in 2020, the USA was locked down and quarantined. Two weeks to flatten the curve, they said, and I really wanted to believe that. Had I not been so naive, I could have made a fortune investing in services like zoom and other video conferencing software.
The business world pivoted, everything went online, and the term "working remotely" defined how things would get done in America and beyond for years to come. At first, it was a dream come true for many. But it didn't take long for people to realize what Ana and I have known for years; working from home and being productive is almost impossible.
There are too many distractions, too little motivation, and accountability, and it's too easy to develop unproductive habits unwittingly. We have learned the hard way to solve many of our problems related to working from home, so we share what we have learned in this episode.
