It's Halloween season, and our October marathon this year was built around themes of dark magic, occult practices, and demon summoning... with an accidental sub-them of romantic liaisons with the undead. Light some candles, settle in with a witches brew, and Let's Summon Demons!
Our Fantastic Fest marathon is nearing its end, and this week we're back with the 2018 Swedish film Border, brought to us by our friend Sara Jones."A customs officer who can smell fear develops an unusual attraction to a strange traveler while aiding a police investigation which will call into question her entire existence."Best seen to be believed, you can find this gem streaming on Hulu and we highly recommend a watch before listening to our spoiler-heavy discussion.
The gang gets together to talk about all things Fantastic Fest 2019 - grief and loss, butts, space dicks, child deaths, butts, BDSM, time travel, butts - and lightly spoil some of the favorite, stand out films from this year's incredible lineup.
Join us for a brief view into the trouble production that was 1994's Cabin Boy... and stick around for how much Jenny 'tolerates' this movie.
Our next Fantastic Fest Marathon film is 2016's The Untamed (La Region Sauvage) from Amat Escalante, brought to us all the from Australia by our dear friend and fellow Fest volunteer Jesse Chick. 'A meteorite crashes onto an isolated mountain somewhere in Mexico. Meanwhile Alejandra and Angel are trying to salvage their unhappy marriage. When these two disparate elements collide, there’ll be consequences for all.' While this starts to unveil the inner workings of our characters and hints at the tinge of sci-fi sprinkled in, we have lots of thoughts about just what the hell is really going in this beautifully shot and superbly acted character study.
This month, we took a tour through some of John Lithgow's iconic villain roles. Expect the usual high-brow analysis - like how great yet another shitty American remake would be if Lithgow played every role.
Our second episode of the Fantastic Fest marathon is here! Our hosts Mike and Vinnie dive deep into the visceral and bloody monstrosities of 2016's The Void and the chunky, grindhouse sound aesthetic of 2017's Brawl In Cell Block 99.
This month, Vinnie sends Jenny on an existential journey into the stygian abyss of Sutter Cane's new reality, In The Mouth Of Madness. In a world where horror paperbacks are so popular that riots are breaking out in the streets, it's up to one daring insurance investigator to keep our world from unraveling. Stephen King meets H.P. Lovecraft by way of John Carpenter's signature practical effect work!
Our next marathon playlist has begun! Throughout September and October, we'll be discussing ours and our guest's favorite films from Fantastic Fest's past. Our first episode has our oft-appearing "friend" of the podcast, Jenny, enlightening us to the ecstatic ritual, danger and the absolute beauty of fireworks as well as the history of Tultepec's incredible celebration with the 2017 documentary Brimstone & Glory.
Teenage romance, PTSD, bad child actors, farting corpses, and a goddamn sexual tyrannosaurus - our latest movie marathon is here!
The last episode in our transhumanism playlist is Leigh Whannell's 2018 near-future body horror Upgrade.
This month, Vinnie takes Jenny a little further back in Peter Jackson's career to his 1992 'splatstick zombie comedy' Dead Alive.
Johnny Mnemonic is a straight up mess of a movie, but we absolutely love it. In our penultimate episode, Vinnie and Mike talk about this classic piece of 90s sci-fi mess, how it deviates from the source material, and how transhumanism looks in this very bizarre vision of the future.Find us on your preferred social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/goshiluvmovies/Twitter/Instagram: @goshiluvmovies
What's this? It's a double feature of Marathon Anon! We didn't think about scheduling when we recorded our first one, so we decided to just drop them both together! Join us as we (to quote Vinnie) "celebrate America but with better presidents."We all agree this is probably the strongest marathon we've had in a while, so check out our recap!Follow us:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/goshiluvmovies/Twitter/Instagram: @goshiluvmovies
Last month was Father's Day. So we celebrated our dads with an almost appropriate marathon IRL. Join us as we recap! We've got father/son bonding; we've got tough, broken surrogate fathers who learn to love the kids in their life; we've got a dad on a rampage to save his daughter. And best of all, we've got dads trying to murder their kids.Happy Father's Day!Follow us:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/goshiluvmovies/Twitter/Instagram: @goshiluvmovies
For our second movie in the Transhumanism marathon, Vinnie and Mike tackle 1995's Ghost in the Shell. It's way more clunky and exposition-heavy than either of us remembered, but it also has a lot of great transhumanist themes around consciousness, reality, and the role of technology vs self. Next week will be our first Marathon Anon, where we'll talk about our IRL June and July movie marathons.Find us on your preferred social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/goshiluvmovies/Twitter/Instagram: @goshiluvmovies
In these monthly mini-sodes, Vinnie will be taking his wife Jenny on a wild ride through the constantly expanding collection of strange cinema he owns, loves, and has never made her watch.
Welcome to inaugural episode of Gosh I Love Movie Marathons. This week, we introduce the new show and talk about our love for movie marathons before diving into our first movie: 1987's Robocop! You can check out John Lajoie video Mike mentioned here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIM-8DT-F_kFollow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @goshiluvmovies
