New York City Landmarks

We wanted our students to become experts in the area in which they live in and the boroughs in NYC. Students used lessons taught in math, science and social studies along with research gathered in reading workshop to produce information based on the various NYC landmarks. In a writing workshop, students wrote a five page book about NYC and had to include a landmark and had to include at least five facts/details.

The students will be able to identify, recognize, and explain a music variation. This unit was created as a fun way to learn facts about the United States, and in a way that was more “real” and meaningful to the students. Students created Flat Stanley characters and mailed them to contacts across the United States for responses with information about the state. This unit integrates English Language Arts & Social Studies and fulfills many standards in these subject areas.
