Today we have a long discussion about what hope means, how we might keep it, and whether it matters. We dive in on loss, death, and sex. All the easy ones! Don't forget to count the wins, folks.
Boy do we have a doozy of an episode for you today! What happens when the fun internet puzzle you solve leads you into an accidental cult? Did y'all know message boards aren't just for racists and pedos - they got aspiring sociopaths and future cult leaders there too! The homie @proven_paradox (twitter) joins us to discuss how trauma and boredom let him to be "situationally vulnerable" and nearly got him in too deep. Notes: the EFF discord he references is http://discord.gg/5BdM9BUdmm. His RPG Story Shaper is discord.gg/ubefmR2bNh and his podcast is Bright on Buddhism https://open.spotify.com/show/6aDjvv2Wu8UZXNFE19v96a?si=Yl3A3wreTcafHn9DxomHlQ&dl_branch=1
Today we are joined by the illustrious Lucy Lightning to talk about her upcoming album, the process of becoming a musician, and dreams. Imposter Syndrome comes up, as well as burnout and following your inspiration. We also talk about the power of music, story telling, and art in general.
Today we dive in on being yourself, reality TV shows, and the life and work of comedy master Norm Macdonald. This is a really good episode. What else can we say? Oh, and we talk about our funerals.
Our good buddy Warren Tidwell stops back by to speak with DJ about climate change and community action. But did you know he was recently named Antifa's Top Super Soldier by Alabama Parents Against Critical Theory? That is their highest honor. Also, on his birthday, Drew finds out Bonnaroo is cancelled and gets diagnosed with Covid. What a great day for us all.
Today we start out on the porch, talkin with Papaw Karl, discussin the finer points of Ivermectin maniacs, and DJ tells us about his troubles at the airport. Following that we get to dive in on a discussion between DJ and the illustrator, activist, and musician Solo Monk. The conversation covers prison, mutual aid, language, poverty and how to find a place for your art in a cold capitalistic world.
We are joined today by friends, activists, and artists Jami and Dan Gaither. They talk to us about the Line 3 Pipeline and being connected with the land. This is a very rad and important episode. If you want to help their cause please join RISE coalition on Facebook and call the Army Corps of Engineers at 2027610292 and ask that the pipeline be postponed or stopped until more studies can be done.
Is Darwinism playing out, or are we stopping nature from taking it's course? Is social media gonna kill us? What exactly do DJ's balls smell like. We answer these questions, and more. Also, Lil Nas X will be President. Also, we revisit the serenity prayer.
Ruminations on what it means to be "home" and even more goat whispering wisdom - today's is a dang good episode. We also feature a poem from Jennifer Smith that DJ DJ Lewis has turned into a podcast movie. Let your friends know about our weird lil podcast and rate/subscribe!
Drew tries to check in from the family cabin (and we are so very sorry for the technical issues - on the bright side DJ handles them hilariously), sparking a discussion about the romanticization of isolation and "independence." We also give a rundown of the fundraiser show from this weekend and just exactly how hard it is to convince strangers that your cult is a joke, fake cult. Hanging out with all you vagabonds, queers, artists, organizers and all around rabble rousers was good for our soul and totally revived DJ. Thank y'all.
This episode has more intense conversation about what it means/feels like to have a family member succumb to the lie of white supremacy and hate. But we also get into our love affair with mutual aid as a concept, action, and place to put our energy. Don't forget to join us in person or livestream this weekend in Grayson Kentucky.
DJ DJ Lewis tells us what it's like when the horrors of modern day white supremacy come into your own home, we discuss the perversion of "individualism" in America, and we talk a little bit about inspiration. Oh, and we do guns. Shout out to the homie Drew Mason yet again for the short story up top. Come see us in Grayson KY for a lil mutual aid hoedown on July 17. YUH
Drew is back in East Tennessee with Andi, and today they discuss being basically on top of each other for the better part of the last 18 months. Andi tells us about her new ventures in the world of music, what it means to heal, and shares her biggest dream. We get into deep stuff on art, mutual aid, and the fear of the future. DJ will be back next week. Love y'all.
DJ and Drew jump on the porch, live. You can watch the episode on youtube. We discuss our recent run of shows, diversity in comedy, and breakfast foods. We also play another game of "ask DJ what they do" and his opinion on what the Inspector General does is hilarious. Additionally, we feature Drew Mason's short story Granny Green and the Little Folk. Follow him on twitter @DKPFransazzio.
Today is episode 4:20 and I'm gonna be real honest - I got high during it and don't remember any of what we talked about OTHER THAN - I asked DJ what he j*cks *ff to and his answer has absolutely destroyed me. I am laughing again thinking about it.
We dive in on whether comedy should have genres and talk about when the homies get an OnlyFans. Also DJ explains why Nessy is the greatest goat of all time. Then, we have a real casual not too deep at all conversation about how it feels to have a N*zi in the family.
Today we recount and recoup from Strikefest - an event we performed at to raise money for striking miners in Alabama. We are so dang proud to have helped on the UMWA, Labor Report, and Hometown Action there. Last we heard we helped raise over 70k for families of miners. We also discuss being back on the road in general and what it was like to finally meet some of you wonderful people. See yuns out there.
Today we are so excited to be joined by Rae Garringer of Country Queers! Country Queers is a now a podcast heading into it's second season, but has been a project of Rae's for years now. They have compiled hours of interviews with members of the LGBTQIA+ community in rural areas to compile oral histories in the "front porchin'" tradition of Appalachia and rural America. It is not an exaggeration to call Rae's project monumentally important to the history of our entire country and culture.
We are joined today by our good buddy and literal rocket scientist Shalin Mody. He discusses growing up brown in America, living in Alabama, and what exactly is going on in India. From cultural differences, poverty, and their own potentially fascist leader, Shalin gives his perspective on the international disaster that is Covid. We also have fun at NASA's expense. Oh, and we get a Nessy the Goat update.
Today we are joined again by activist and writer Warren Tidwell who shares with us some very good news! He and some student activists he works with were able to gain a very important victory against the prison industrial complex in Alabama. We celebrate this victory with Warren and discuss the importance of always celebrating wins. Folks we cannot stress enough how important this is. Small ones, big, personal, broad societal ones: take some time and dwell on the good stuff. And on that note: DJ got a baby GOAT. You get to meet Nessy!
