In this episode, world-renowned agroecologist Nicole Masters joins Keith Berns for a powerful conversation on regeneration, humility, and the importance of walking alongside farmers rather than ahead of them. Nicole describes that across the globe, soils are sending us messages and those that are learning how to listen are seeing profound shifts in soil function, and most importantly, profitability. Together, Nicole and Keith explore the ripple effects of regenerative land management—how one person’s transformation can catalyze change across an entire community when it’s rooted in curiosity rather than superiority. They also dive into the importance of locally grounded coaches, farmer-to-farmer storytelling, and Nicole’s work training agroecologists to support farmers through this transformational journey.Join us for an upcoming soil health workshop with Nicole in Nebraska on June 3–4 that promises to get your hands dirty, your mind engaged, and your heart inspired.Register for the workshop: https://greencover.com/event/nexus-in...Learn more about Nicole's CREATE program: https://integritysoils.com/pages/crea...Buy Nicole's book, For The Love of Soil: https://integritysoils.com/products/f...If you love our podcast, dive into our other great resources like the Soil Health Resource Guide: https://greencover.com/freeguides/At Green Cover, we grow, clean, mix, and deliver the highest quality cover crop seed directly to agricultural producers across the United States. Our faith-based company is built by farmers, family-owned and united in our purpose to help farmers regenerate, steward and share God's creation for future generations. We'd love to provide you with excellent quality seed, expert cover crop advice, and a custom seed blend designed to meet your goals for your field.Contact our expert sales team at (402) 469-6784 or info@greencover.com Or visit us online at https://greencover.comBuild your own custom mix at https://smartmix.greencoverseed.com
Kipp Hinrichs started out his farming career doing things the same as everyone else, growing conventional, high yield corn and soybeans on prime, irrigated cropland in south central Nebraska. 2020 brought a lot more down time and Kipp took to “YouTube University” where he came across the teachings of Gabe Brown and other regenerative farmers who were questioning the status quo. After doing the math, Kipp figured that he could actually make more profit raising livestock than growing a corn crop in the Cornhusker state. In just five years Kipp has gone from full conventional row-crop production with zero livestock to a 100% focus on rearing and finishing grass-fed and finished beef and lamb on cover crop forages.Learn more about Kipp Hinrichs's farm operation: https://www.onceuponaprairie.com/If you love our podcast, dive into our other great resources like the Soil Health Resource Guide: https://greencover.com/freeguides/At Green Cover, we grow, clean, mix, and deliver the highest quality cover crop seed directly to agricultural producers across the United States.

Today, Laura is using her background in bioinformatics in groundbreaking research on DNA sequencing to help us better understand the diversity of life in our soils. You won’t want to miss this excellent and riveting conversation!
What’s the real secret to regenerative success? In this episode, Indiana farmer Rick Clark shares how he's building organic systems at scale — without tillage, without inputs, and without regret. But the real magic? It’s not just about species diversity, it’s about plant family diversity. Rick walks us through how rethinking his cover crop mixes — moving beyond rye and radish — transformed his soil, his mindset, and his mission. From the moment a one-inch rain exposed the damage of tillage to the spiritual and ecological awakening that followed, Rick’s story is one of humility, experimentation, and deep commitment to human and soil health.Whether you're just starting with cover crops or building your tenth cocktail mix, this conversation will challenge and inspire you to see diversity — and your farm — in a whole new way.Looking to get your own custom mix?
