Season V: We are back

Season V: We are back

2023-08-1405:14

Welcome to Season V of the Green Living Chats podcast. In nature, all species live such that their resources and by-product form part of and nourish nature's regenerative ecosystem - there is nothing like waste. However, humans have created a different ecosystem for ourselves that has, for years, breached nature's rules of "No waste allowed" and instead potentially offset nature's cycles. Our footprint on earth hasn't been much more evident than it is today - "Human-induced climate change is already affecting many weather and climate extremes in every region across the globe – with widespread loss and damage to both nature and people" - IPCC 2023. In response, we are actively embracing renewable energies, setting carbon-neutral targets, adopting circular and regenerative economies, and striving for sustainability to reduce our environmental footprint. All stakeholders approach these solutions from their unique perspectives, as there is no single "standard" for sustainable practices. If nature were a business partner, which solutions would she invest in? Our theme for Season V is "Sustainable Solutions" - Join us on every episode as we explore global solutions in water, air, land, biodiversity and different ecosystems. ------- GLC aims to share knowledge and education with our cherished listeners through this Podcast. Cordie founded Environment360 in December 2014 to support the creation of circular economies with an economic and environmental impact. During the past six years, she has become an expert in supporting informal sector plastic waste collectors, also known as waste pickers. Ms Aziz was pivotal in creating the Ghana Recycling Initiative by Private Enterprise (GRIPE). She is one of the founders of the Plastic Recyclers and Aggregators Association of Ghana (PRAAG); she served as President of the organisation until June 2021. She is passionate about working with all stakeholders along the value chain to create an inclusive waste management system that creates jobs for youth and women. In the organisation’s newest venture, the Circular Innovation Hub, Ms Aziz seeks to move women waste pickers from collectors to innovators using an open-source modular recycling technology. Collins Gameli Hodoli is a curious environmental scientist with a passion for environmental sustainability and public health protection. A Pan African whose research interest cuts across DIY and IoT approaches to revolutionize air quality monitoring in Ghana and wider Africa. He holds a PhD in Environment and Agrifood (Environmental Technology); published in peer-reviewed journals, and offered thoughts on the usefulness of meaningful open-source air quality data to engage, educate and empower African citizens on the health-damaging impacts of air pollution.  He is the founder and director of Operations for Clean Air One Atmosphere (CAOA) - a non-profit he founded during the first year of his PhD studies at Cranfield University, UK. To the best of his knowledge, CAOA is the first organisation in Africa to have built and launched a flagship mobile application that meaningfully communicates air quality data which also includes population health surveillance data to support air pollution health effects studies. His work cuts across air pollution research in West Africa. Get in touch with Collins.
