We know that Greta Van Susteren was doing legal analysis for CNN during the O.J. Simpson murder trial, but what was her friend and colleague Geraldo Rivera doing at the time? The veteran reporter and television host joins us in this edition of Greta Talk to discuss “the story to symbolize the 90’s”, The People of the State of California v. Orenthal James Simpson. Rivera recalls reporting live on the story, from Simpson’s infamous police chase to the delivery of what he calls a “race-based verdict”, on his CNBC show Rivera Live. He also analyzes the jury in the trial, defends cameras in the courtroom, and shares what he thought of the FX series’ representation of the story. Rivera also fills us in on his experience at Dancing With the Stars and how it compares to his time on Celebrity Apprentice, and also reveals the highlight of his over 40 years in television.
In this edition of Greta Talk we hear from veteran forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden, who was hired by O.J. Simpson’s lawyers to critique the autopsies of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman during Simpson’s murder trial. Dr. Baden tells Greta Van Susteren what he thinks of the FX series’ portrayal of him, the backlash he faced from his police department for being a defense witness rather than prosecution, and why he recommended Simpson be put on suicide watch. Dr. Baden also recalls the chaos of being at the Kardashian house when Simpson disappeared to evade cops, saying Robert Kardashian ”knew what was going on”. Listen to the interview here:
It’s quite possible that no one knows more about the O. J. Simpson murder case than Simpson’s former agent Mike Gilbert. After working together for over a decade and having a close friendship for years beyond that, Gilbert is well informed in the life of O.J. Simpson, and even confesses to helping him get away with murder. In his 2008 book How I Helped O.J. Get Away With Murder, Gilbert reveals the unvarnished truth of what happened, including how he helped deceive the jury and feels deeply responsible for the “Not Guilty” verdict. Today Gilbert gives Greta Van Susteren an exclusive interview detailing O.J. and Nicole’s life before the murders. In this edition of Greta Talk, Gilbert gives insight into Nicole’s affair with O.J.’s best friend and fellow NFL player Marcus Allen, which he believes is connected to O.J.’s motive. Gilbert also divulges what he thought O.J.’s defense team did “dirty”, who O.J. confessed to the murders to, and he even recalls his first thought, “he finally did it”, upon learning Nicole was murdered. Listen to the chilling interview below:
In this latest installment of Greta Talk, we continue talking about the notorious O.J. Simpson murder case, but now with a major inside source. Gloria Allred has been practicing law for over 40 years with the leading women’s rights law firm in the country, and she was just the person Nicole Brown Simpson’s family wanted to represent them during the People of the State of California v. Orenthal James Simpson criminal murder case. Allred has become a highly esteemed women’s and civil rights advocate over the years after representing clients in numerous high-profile cases… but this case might’ve been the biggest. Throughout the murder trial (and still to this day) Allred made a point to shed light on the issue of domestic abuse, something she says “often escalates until the victim ends up dead”. While that certainly seems to be the issue here, Allred reveals how hard it is to understand why O.J. was sentenced to a mere 500 hours of counseling and charity work after beating Nicole black and blue just five years before her murder. Despite being charged with battery O.J. was given the minimum sentence, which Allred believes “was an insult to battered women” and “didn’t accomplish any of the purposes of the criminal justice system”. Listen below to hear why Allred believes the criminal justice system failed to shield Nicole from domestic violence, why despite having more than sufficient evidence to find O.J. guilty, the verdict was not guilty, and be sure keep your eye out for the next O.J. Simpson installment of Greta Talk!
It’s a story almost everyone knows. In 1994, former NFL player O.J. Simpson gets away with murdering his ex-wife and her friend. The criminal murder case (The People of the State of California v. Orenthal James Simpson) made national headlines after the well-known running back was found not guilty in the brutal killings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, a decision that to this day has left the American public bewildered. In this edition of Greta Talk, Greta Van Susteren relives the infamous case, as it was the one that more or less launched her career. Before the time of On the Record, Greta was focused on practicing law when CNN asked her to do legal analysis on the Simpson trial, to which she agreed. Working out of a tiny, cold studio in Washington, D.C., Greta relied on a live-feed of the trial that was taking place in California, and at times even played a little Tetris when the trial got dull. Well maybe not a little; she ended up getting tendinitis in her elbow from playing so much! Download and tune in to hear all about Greta’s experiences with the controversial trial, including her surprising phone call from O.J. himself, how she was with him when he was awarded custody of his children, and even how the FX television series based on the case stacks up against the real events.
North Korea is one of the most mysterious and secretive places in the world. Very few people actually get the opportunity to visit the country, as its leader does not take kindly to outsiders and an invitation must be extended in order for anyone to enter. Greta Van Susteren happens to be one of the people included in this small circle, with the help of Reverend Franklin Graham, and she’s revealing some of the memories she’s made in North Korea over the years. In this edition of Greta Talk, Greta reminisces on some of the fascinating experiences she’s had while visiting the enigmatic country, including getting a tour of the navy ship USS Pueblo by a North Korean guide who called American military “cowardly”, staying in a hotel straight out of “The Shining”, and drinking beer and singing Elvis Presley karaoke with some of her minders. Greta also recalls a highly-staged interview she was allowed to conduct with some North Korean field workers. And why was she denied a request to visit a fourth time because it would be “inappropriate” for her to return? Listen below to get the inside scoop on North Korea:
Greta Van Susteren recently had one of the best days of her entire life. Let’s rewind to about a year and a half ago– The On the Record host receives an email from a distraught viewer in need of some help. Kris Detrow and her husband John are desperately trying to bring a little girl from Uganda (who they had fallen in love with and wanted to adopt) home with them to the U.S. 6-year-old Leticia was tossed out by her birth parents as a child because she was deaf and her family believed she would put a hex on them. It was in a filthy Ugandan orphanage where Kris was volunteering that Kris and Leticia instantly connected. After a long and difficult process filled with multiple hurdles, Leticia was allowed to travel to the U.S. to live with the Detrows. Fast-forward to present time, and Leticia is happy and healthy living life with her new family (including two amazing older brothers). After a few tests it is determined that Leticia can undergo cochlear implant surgery that could possibly allow her to hear for the first time. Once the implant surgery was complete, “Aunt Greta” made sure to attend the big day when the cochlear implant would finally be activated, and what happened when that implant was activated is what made this day one of the best of Greta’s (and Leticia’s) life. And listen here for Greta’s new update on Leticia and the Detrow’s: Subscribe to this free podcast for more stories and interviews like this! Each year the Superbowl is the most-watched television event by a long shot. Over 114 million people watched Superbowl 49 last year and over 112 million tuned in the year before that. The record-breaking viewership is definitely a factor companies take into account when deciding to advertise during the Superbowl, considering one 30-second commercial costs over $4 million. Keeping all of these numbers in mind, imagine how life-changing it would be for a small business of, let’s say, 11 people, to run a commercial during Superbowl 50 at no cost to them. This is exactly the scenario that happened to Death Wish Coffee, who was among 15,000 other small businesses to enter Intuit QuickBooks Small Business Big Game contest. As the winner of the contest, Death Wish Coffee got to produce a 30-second commercial for free, to air when the Denver Broncos take on the Carolina Panthers this Sunday. In this edition of Greta Talk, Greta Van Susteren talks with Michael Brown, founder of Death Wish Coffee, and Bill Rancic, who teamed up with Intuit QuickBooks for the Small Business Big Game campaign. In this exclusive interview Rancic talks about the many ways this opportunity will benefit a small business, and Brown reveals some of the advice fellow entrepreneur Rancic gave him. Rancic also tells Greta about his current relationship with former “mentor” Donald Trump, his and wife Giuliana’s struggles with infertility, and his latest business venture, an Italian restaurant in DC (which just so happens to be on Greta’s route home). Will the On the Record host be invited to the opening in March, and will Death Wish Coffee be on the menu? Download and tune in to hear Greta’s exclusive interview with Bill Rancic and Michael Brown, and be sure to check out the winning commercial below!
Awards season is in full swing and the film The Big Short has already racked up an impressive number of nominations thanks to brilliant director Adam McKay (the cast is pretty great, too). McKay joins Greta Van Susteren to talk about the film, based on the book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lewis, which McKay admits he read in one day before deciding it was his dream project. The Big Short tells the story of the 2007 housing crisis which silently unfolded during the year prior to the 2008 stock market crash. While the details are certainly complicated, Greta is a big fan of the way the film explains the complex crisis to the average movie-goer. In this edition of Greta Talk, McKay, whose work usually falls on the comedy side (he directed Step Brothers, Anchorman, Talladega Nights, etc.), tells Greta how his film The Other Guys inspired him to investigate the housing crisis, and ultimately make the “trauma-dey” The Big Short. McKay and the On the Record host also discuss the crisis and their shared outraged that no one went to prison for it, the difficulty of trying to choose a genre for a real-life film (hence “trauma-dey”), and McKay even reveals a potential new project that would reunite Step Brothers’ Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly! And why does McKay agree to pull his earlobe if he wins an Oscar? Download and tune in to find out!
New Jersey First Lady Mary Pat Christie is one busy woman! When she’s not working with one of the three non-profit organizations she heads– New Jersey Heroes, the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, and the Drumthwacket Foundation– she’s on the presidential campaign trail with her husband Governor Chris Christie. Despite her hectic schedule, Mrs. Christie was able to call and catch up with Greta Van Susteren in between campaign events in New Hampshire. In this edition of Greta Talk, Mrs. Christie explains how she’s spending her time in New Hampshire going to voter’s homes and answering their questions. She even tells the On the Record host how some voters reveal they don’t answer their phones during election season to avoid polling questions! Christie in March, tells us how she and the Governor met, their favorite concerts to attend, and even why she switched college majors THREE times! And how does she rate the Governor’s dancing skills? And why does Smith say Donald Trump is in the lead with young voters? Download and tune in to find out!

Presidential historian, Contributing Editor at TIME, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham is Executive Vice President and Executive Editor at Random House, which recently published his new book Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush. Meacham paints an intimate and surprising portrait of an intensely private man who led the nation through tumultuous times. From the Oval Office to Camp David, from his study in the private quarters of the White House to Air Force One, from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the first Gulf War to the end of Communism, Destiny and Power charts the thoughts, decisions, and emotions of a modern president who may have been the last of his kind. This is the human story of a man who was, like the nation he led, at once noble and flawed. In this edition of Greta Talk, Meacham talks in-depth about the interviews he conducted with President George H. W. Bush over the course of nine years. He also reveals what he learned thanks to President Bush’s presidential and vice presidential audio diaries as well as the “unconditional access” Bush 41 and first lady Barbara Bush gave him. Meacham and the On the Record host even discuss how if Bush 41 hadn’t taken a job sweeping floors in Texas after graduation he wouldn’t have become president. And why does Greta Van Susteren say Bush 41 was her “worst interview ever”? Download and tune in to find out!

In this edition of Greta Talk, Coach Ryan catches up with UW alumna and Badgers super-fan Greta Van Susteren to talk about all things basketball. Fox News Contributor Guy Benson and his “freakishly similar” friend Mary Katharine Ham have made their book debut with End of Discussion. “Ham and Benson expose how the Left exploits fake outrage to silence their political opponents—in public, on social media, at work, and even in their own homes. You’ve felt it and “End of Discussion” can help you fight it.” In this edition of Greta Talk, Benson joins Greta Van Susteren as they discuss the “erosion” of good manners, how a middle school project got him interested in politics, and even why he and Ham aren’t supposed to be conservatives… And why does Benson call himself out in the book? Bob Woodward has done it again. The Last of the President’s Men exposes one of the final pieces of the Richard Nixon puzzle: “Woodward reveals the untold story of Alexander Butterfield, the Nixon aide who disclosed the secret White House taping system that changed history and led to Nixon’s resignation. In forty-six hours of interviews with Butterfield, supported by thousands of documents, many of them original and not in the presidential archives and libraries, Woodward has uncovered new dimensions of Nixon’s secrets, obsessions and deceptions.” In this edition of Greta Talk, Greta Van Susteren talks with Woodward in depth about Alexander Butterfield, Hillary Clinton’s email investigation, and how Nixon felt “untouchable” before the Watergate scandal came to light.
