Director Chuck Russell Makes Witchboards Scary Again Doc Rotten is joined by Paul Cardullo to review Chuck Russell's Witchboard (2025). Set in New Orleans, this remake of the 1986 classic from director Kevin S. Tenney, features Madison Iseman in the Tawny Kitaen role but named Emily for this version. A witchboard is found, a witchboard is used, and a witchboard kills a bunch of people. Leave witchboards alone, people! Witchboard is out in theaters August 15, 2025. Is it worth a watch? How does it stack up against the original? How does Chuck Russell (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, The Blob, The Mask) approach the material? Check out this review to find out what the Grue-Crew think.
Some of you may not recognize Michael C. Williams at first glance, but stick him in a dark basement, turn him around, and have him stare at the wall—instant recognition. Michael is THE Michael from the now iconic THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, which this year celebrates 25 years of forever changing the path of our genre. Michael's career continues to grow with the release this month of GHOST GAME from DREAD films. I had the opportunity to spend some time with Michael, speaking a little bit about the legacy of Blair Witch but mostly about his involvement in GHOST GAME. Check it out! Synopsis: "As part of an internet challenge to live undetected in a stranger's home, a daring couple target an infamous haunted house and endure a series of chilling incidents as they witness a family descending into madness." GHOST GAME gets a limited theatrical opening on Oct. 18th – and then it hits VOD everywhere on Oct. 22nd.
Throughout her career, Lynn Lowry has amassed a resume that is second to none. She has worked with genre giants like Lloyd Kaufman, George Romero, and David Cronenberg and starred in films that are now considered horror classics. First stepping in front of a camera in the early 70s – Lynn continues to release numerous films a year – I believe in our chat – which you are about to watch – she mentions that she worked on 12 films in 2024 – amazing. Out now on VOD from Breaking Glass Films is A HALLOWEEN FEAST. Lynn stars as Angela Long – an aging dancer who just maybe has been dropped on her head one too many times. Lynn is brilliant in the film and she and I sat down to have a chat about this current release as well as touching base on the other films in her iconic career.
Dave chats it up with Harold Perrineau the star of the MGM + series FROM. Season three debuts on Sept. 22nd.
True, hardcore gore films are a rare breed these days. Many films pretend to be, but very few live up to the hype. Well gorehounds, I've got some good news for you. The new film by Federico Zampaglione THE WELL walks the walk, and talks the talk. Most US fans will likely be drawn to the film because of its star – Lauren LaVera – from Terrifier 2 and soon from Terrifier 3. She's exceptional in this film – and the story about how Federico secured her talents is worth the watch. Federico was kind enough to chat with me about the release – he's a fascinating talent. Check out our conversation. THE WELL is out now on all VOD platforms – you need to watch it – and now.
Dave Dreher talks with iconic director Chuck Russell and the cast of WITCHBOARD: Madison Iseman, Aaron Domingues, and Charlie Tahan. Emily, her fiancé Christian, and a group of their friends are opening a café in New Orleans French Quarter, by refurbishing an old carriage house. But a darkness descends over Emily when she discovers the Witchboard, an ancient Wiccan pendulum board once used to summon spirits. Christen seeks help for Emily from occult expert Alexander Baptiste. But Baptiste has secrets of his own. A modern coven of White Witches, a masked ball at Baptiste's mansion, and the legacy of Naga Soth, the Queen of Witches are all part of a dangerous game that puts Emily's very soul at risk. Based on the 1987 VHS video store staple by Kevin Tenney, Russell and his team bring a new spin on the classic tale of why some things found in the woods should just be left there.
