Description

Gutting the Sacred Cow invites guests to argue why some of the most financially successful, beloved or acclaimed films are trash or overrated. But here's the twist, the film must meet 1 of these criteria: widely beloved, financial success, or critically acclaimed. Standup comedians Kevin Gootee and Kevin Israel love films and they love arguing about them.. But will they agree with their guests arguments or feed them into a wood chipper?

We give a platform with those who have unpopular opinions to be bold enough to voice them. What are some films that have faced scrutiny: Back to the Future, Goodfellas, Shawshank Redemption, the Dark Knight, Toy Story, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the Matrix, and Die Hard. Can the guests persuade us or do we rip them a new one?

Give us a listen and we'll easily prove that we belong on any top movie podcast list. We throw plenty of fun segments in the mix: 5 fun facts, our readers have us ask our guests questions they'd like answered in "Ask a Gutter", critics 5 and 1 star reviews and our FAVORITE segment, reading Amazon 5 and 1 star reviews.; You'll never go down a more fun rabbit hole than hearing crazy people asking for refunds while submitting their personal info for payment.

We also give you movie and TV recommendations in our bonus segment aptly titled, "What Did We Watch" So if you want spirited movie debate and wonder what the hell is wrong with some people who hate some of these treasured films or if you secretly agree these beloved movies are awful, this podcast is for you.

Star Wars, Star Trek, 2001 A Space Odyssey arere probably the most influential science fiction films of all time. Chris Woolsey from Crackle returns to take on arguably THE most influential, iconic, and copied sci-film of all time, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Richard Dreyfus stars as one of the worst movie parents/spouses who's more interested in throwing flower pots through windows and making mountains out of mashed potatoes. Chris explains how Steven Spielberg made a truly uninteresting, boring film that's beloved by alien nerds and why this movie is iconic only for the 5 notes. Spielberg lover Kevin Gootee invited fellow fanboy Kevin Israel back for another round of, "Is this Gutter's argument foolish or are they making sense?" The boys also discuss the list of Spielberg hits and misses as well as how many alien encounters there can be. Lastly, make SURE you stay for the announcement at the end of the episode, it's a doozy! The GREATEST action hero in the last 25 years is without question, Tom Cruise, had a rare underperforming film with Edge of Tomorrow. It underperformed so much in North America, they changed the title to Live, Die, Repeat which was the title of the Manga comic book/graphic novel/whatever you nerds call it. Alex Hooper loves Tom Cruise films as well as Emily Blunt (and who doesn't?) but he doesn't love the lack of pretext and disjointed plot. Cruise superfan and Mission Impossible lover, Kevin Gootee, LOVED this film when it came out. Does it stand the test of time unlike his marriage to Katie Holmes, Mimi Rodgers, and Nicole Kidman? Faithful back massager Kevin Israel straps on a mech suit and gets ready for some grab ass good times. The guys discuss where Emily Blunt ranks on the list of female ass kickers/action heroes. And of course, an abundance of Tom Cruise jokes flow. Lastly, the trio lament if Catherine Zeta Jones arching through laser beams was an acceptable excuse for Michael Douglas to get HPV in the throat. Why Clerks isn't supposed to be here in 2023? The 90's indie comedy juggernaut shuffles in front of the firing squad at the request of Ray Stakenas. Sitting in with Kevin Gootee is one of his favorite ladies, comedienne Linette Paladino (HBO and Amazon Prime) Can Ray get in the win column again? We're back and Phil Ranta returns to assail one of the most recently beloved cult classics, Donnie Darko. Phil gets on a soapbox and methodically elucidates why this Jake Gyllenhaal and Maggie Gyllenhaal time travel movie ain't no Back to the Future. Phil explains why Frank the rabbit completely screws up the space time continuum, why this movie sends a terrible message to teens with suicidal thoughts, what the hell is going on with the Patrick Swayze role, and how Drew Barrymore's antics wouldn't even be tolerated in 1988, let alone 2023. Sitting in with Kevin Gootee is his all time favorite co-host, Kevin Israel. Can Phil get the hat trick with his 3rd gutting? Just as the nerds are sheathing their swords, another Wes Anderson finds itself on the business end of a broad axe. Lisa Curry, opener for Jim Jefferies, gets a megaphone to shout why Rushmore is one of the worst high school comedies ever made. Lisa explains how Bill Murray, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, and why Jason Schwartzman's nepotism tanks the film. Lisa also explains how she went to a super rowdy school in (checks notes) Crown Pointe, Indiana. Well, they all can't be the high school from Lean on Men. Hysterical. Just a dismal attempt at putting down Star Wars, but pure gold for the Kevins to shit on. The Audience Reviews alone make this a Must Listen.

These guys made the misguided decision to follow me on Twitter, and because of that, I found their bitchin podcast! I'm only the 6th episode but man, the episodes are hysterical. The banter and shit-talking is great, as are the guests and their valiant efforts to take down some of my favorite movies. Give them a listen!
