Description

We are Next Steps South West (NSSW)!

NSSW is a collaboration of fourteen partner universities and colleges throughout Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, funded by the Office for Students (OfS).

As part of the Office for Students’ Uni Connect Programme, we help young people navigate their own personal journey to higher education. Across the region, we deliver events and activities designed to educate and inspire young people aged 13-19 years old, and those that influence them, such as parents and carers.

For this third episode of the podcast we're talking with Stacey-May Fox who works for the Student Loans Company England, we’ll be discussing Student Finance. We'll look at what's changing for 2024, but also going over all the fundamentals for those who are entitrely new to student finance, from what you might be entitled to and how to apply, and what evidence you'll need to provide, to repayments and what other funding could be available, we'll cover all bases.
In this second episode we’ll be talking to three industry experts to find out more about and what it takes to get into Media, Marketing and Manufacturing. From applying to study in these fields at HE level, to understanding how your digital footprint can affect your career. This episode is another collaboration with our colleagues at HOPP, and as ever I hope you find it as illuminating and informative as we did making it.
In this first episode we’re going to be delving deeper into the HE interview process. Along with the team at Humber Outreach Programme (HOP) we'll be chatting with three expert guests about interviews and how to change your attitude towards them and yourself forever; how to create a winning portfolio; plus some tips for auditions, if you're applying to do a performing arts course, or thinking of getting into acting.
We are all experiencing the impact of the cost of living crisis, but if you, or anyone you know is going into full time study soon it may feel more daunting with the lack of earning potential that being a student brings with it. In this special one-off episode we speak with Caroline Millan who is a masters student at University of Plymouth. We’re not just going to bemoan the difficulties, but discuss some things students can do to feel empowered about not just surviving but thriving in the current economic climate.
Our exploration of the experiences of adult learners at the University of Plymouth continues in this second episode. Three adult learners discuss what studying at HE has helped them discover about themselves and what their futures might hold.  In their twenties three to six years of study sounded like a long time to these adult learners, but through the process of making the decision to return to study they realise how relatively short, but potentially life changing those years could be if spent studying at HE.
In this second series we’re going to be speaking with adult learners studying HE courses at our partner institutions. We hope you find their experiences inspiring and insightful. As an adult learner you may encounter more barriers to studying from the juggle of family life, work and learning, to finances, and the impact all of this on your mental health and wellbeing. The people you’ll hear from in this series have all encountered and overcome many barriers to their studies.
In this episode, we take a closer look at some potential barriers that might prevent progression into HE. We speak to four graduates who've experienced different obstacles in their journey through HE. Sometimes all it takes to break down a barrier is, inspiration and information.
This podcast looks more closely at the Y7 and the importance of including youth voice in decision making. If you are interested in being part of a similar group in the future, listen to the experiences of the Y7 and understand how powerful your opinion can be.
This podcast reflects the highlights from interviews from a variety of professionals and conservationists, who have helped the student team to form specific ideas as to the importance of the environmental elements of this year’s Summit. It concludes with suggested areas of focus for our G7 leadership.
