On this episode of the Hadriatic Divide, Ciaran and Poddy delve into the fascinating world of Shinty - Scotland's unique national sport. The pair welcome back Gary Innes to the show to discuss his illustrious time as a player for club and country. They also hear from Roddy Cairns, captain of the Dunoon-Strachur Shinty Club (as well as being a wonderful stand-up comedian and man of many talents), and traipse all the way to a dreich Cowal peninsula to take in a game of shinty for themselves. The couple partake in a fun shinty-related game of Ciaran's design, but also go off on plenty of tangents, such as Alex Horne encounters, television show theme tunes, and trying to name all the Scottish top-flight football teams (and (spoiler) scandalously forgetting the existence of Motherwell).Theme music (Throw Me a Penny) written by Ciaran and Gordon Whyte of Whyte Noise and recorded by Chris Waite at Gran's House Studios.Outro music composed by Gordon and Susan Whyte.Cover art by Poddy Wilson.Massive thank you to Gary and Roddy for giving up their time and providing their shinty expertise.Email your feedback to hadriaticdividepod@gmail.com and tell us what topics you'd like to be covered on the Hadriatic Divide from both countries. This episode is NOT sponsored by Tennent's Lager... but we wish it was... 👉🏻👈🏻 Hosted on Acast.
