Will talks about the hoopla over the NBA all star game and Asia Durr's covid fight, and he names the top ten NBA guys and Lebron is 3. I know that's crazy. And I know he's number one on everyone else's list. And I still have a lot of faith in the Lakers but he's not one of my top 2 guys. And Luka is not either. Luka is 10, and I don't understand people putting Luka higher than that. There. I said it.
Will gives his thoughts on the new NBA season, and which teams he believes in, and Lori Loughlin. If you hate basketball and/or Lori Loughlin you probably won't like this podcast.
Will looks at the newest draft class, which he loves. And just talks about the favorites for rookies of the year, and which teams are smart. He is also the only person watching the NBA to posit the question why is it rookie and not rooky. I totally get why rookies is the plural but if you really think about it what other singular thing has an ie and not a y. Bet you weren't counting on reading that question in the bio but I also bet you don't know the answer.
Will talks about the NBA Draft with the election in the background. Talk about mixed priorities. Is Lamelo Ball the Georgia of this draft? He is. But Will doesn't draw that specific parallel during the episode. He mostly just focuses on the basketball and then peppers in a few election rants. I don't know if they're technically rants.
Kiah and Will talk about the WNBA season, the WNBA champion Seattle Storm, the NBA co-almost Champion Lakers and Heat and blaming Frank Vogel. Was too much blame put on the shoulders of Danny Green? What about Markieff Morris:? You''ll have to listen to find out. But in the episode Will lambasts Frank Vogel for not calling time out with four seconds left. After the pod Kiah let Will know that Vogel didn't have a time out. If Will had known that he would have pivoted to lambasting Vogel for not having a time out. What else is there to say? Lebron is great and game 6 is about to start!
Will reacts to the Storm winning the WNBA finals and the media presupposing that the Lakers will win the NBA finals. That's an apt description of how this episode plays out. But then Will goes even further and examines the landscape of the NBA for next year. He predicts chaos and anarchy in the West with potentially only 3 teams from this years Western conference playoffs making it next year. I know that sounds crazy but is it?
Will dives in to the conference finals match-ups and talks about the media narratives surrounding them. He also breaks down what is likely to happen moving forward. Basically if after this podcast goes out the Celtics win the NBA championship, Will is going to look very very dumb, and it won't be the first time in his life that's been the case. But after the last time it happened he swore to himself, "Never Again".
Will gives his take on the second round. He made some calls that were prescient and at least one that was stupidly wrong. To keep it real. But rather than gloat about correctly predicting both serieses out West and the Miami series (and he ultimately went 4 for 4 with first round predictions, he instead chose to gloat about correctly predicting that Crystal Dangerfield will be the ROY (he may be wrong but he is prematurely gloating). Will also gives his take on Lakers / Clippers (also possibly premature).
Will breaks down the first two rounds of the playoffs and talks about which NBA series are up for grabs and which ones are in the bag. He discusses the long term implications of the first round on the NBA moving forward. Will also looks at the MVP race and ROY race for the WNBA and talks about who's been impressive.
Kiah explains the process of entering the wubble, her role in the protests in support of Breonna Taylor, and the start of the WNBA season! We talked about the validity of his statements, and how we were both jealous of the tutelage that his daughters received from him. We talked about how Gigi was going to inevitably play for UConn and how a lot of young women in the NCAA are mimicking James Harden's game (and to some extent Kobe's) and how Kiah feels about that. We also talk a little about the new CBA for the WNBA. It's crazy that we recorded this episode before everything happened. I recorded the first eight minutes yesterday though.
