Description

Gretchen Rubin is HAPPIER, and she wants you to be happier too. The #1 bestselling author of The Happiness Project and Better Than Before gets more personal than ever as she brings her practical, manageable advice about happiness and good habits to this lively, thought-provoking podcast. Gretchen’s cohost and guinea pig is her younger sister, Elizabeth Craft, a TV writer and producer living in Los Angeles, who (lovingly) refers to Gretchen as her happiness bully. Part of the Cadence13 Network.

In Stephan Lee’s terrific young-adult novel K-Pop Confidential, the character Candace’s performance illustrates the same lesson that I saw in my daughter Eleanor’s second-grade show on the monkey bars: Sometimes we should expect more from ourselves, and sometimes we should accept ourselves—our own gifts, our own limitations, and our own way to achieve an aim. One of the best ways to make ourselves happier is to make other people happier. In the 1600s, Samuel Pepys kept a diary, and of everything he wrote about, including the Great Plague of London and the Great Fire of London fair, one thing that is remembered, so many hundreds of years later, is a delicious night of sleep he had in 1661. I can see both my Hram and Uncle outside their home on Google earth. They passed within 3 weeks of each other last year. It is crazy to see them outside their shared home. Good timing. 💞

this episode talks abt how you resist a temptation. i just realized that this is a thing and uh, i'm an abstainer. i totally cut off anything that would tempt me to develop bad habits e.g. uninstalling AMONG US last time coz it was so addictive. 🤣

Thank you for the Gold Star for your veterinarian! I'm a mixed animal veterinarian in Iowa working on both large and small animals and our clinic takes great time and conciousness in making our sympathy cards for our patients so it's nice to know clients appreciate them. Love your podcast! #upholder #completist #overbuyer

Is it crazy that I had to listen to this multiple things before I caught what the one minute rule is? I guess multi tasking does not always pay off. I'll start to tomorrow.

hi. please be careful with your language regarding prescription brain medication (negative connotations about being dependent on Adderall, etc). It may not have been necessary or good for your guest. However, it can be life-saving for some, literally and figuratively. The stigma is enormous. Perhaps in the book, it goes further into this, but from what I heard here, it was very flip.

So grateful for the idea of keeping a journal about this experience. I think it will be helpful for those generations that follow to get a better, well rounded perspective of how this affected people.

I started listening to your podcast about a year ago, and had to start at the beginning, so I listen every time I am in my car alone, usually on my 45 min drive to work. Love it!! I am now on episode 234, so I am going to be sad to catch up, because then it won't be a constant for me!! love your advice and anticdotes!

This episode was exactly what I needed. I'm a REALTOR and I'm normally pretty active, although it seems lately every opportunity I've had has just turned to dust. I thoroughly appreciate listening to Elizabeth's story, definitely puts things into perspective for me.

Relationship tip! Respect your partner's privacy! When your partner doesn't want to share something with you, don't take it personally, you're two individuals sharing time together so let them be an individual! Not every part of your life needs to be shared and encourage your partner's creativity even if you aren't involved or don't know all the details.
