We placed the glass onto the board, and all reached out to touch it together, it was like a scene from a horror movie. All slightly apprehensive, we looked around at each other and started to ask questions like, ‘is anybody there?’ and ‘will someone talk to us?’. A few minutes passed … and disappointingly nothing happened. Then … suddenly … completely unexpectedly … the glass started to move; we all stared at each other in complete disbelief; the room going eerily cold with both dogs letting out spine-tingling howls. The dogs then proceeded to bark and howl uncontrollably, running and jumping, bouncing off the walls of their kennel and snarling like rabid animals. Nothing I said or did would calm them down … and, in all truth, it absolutely scared the hell out of me. ‘Exhausted, he approached his doorstep with heavy footsteps; his eyes glued to the cobblestones – when he heard the clang of something hit the ground … it was a comb, the symbol of the banshee, and when he looked ahead to his doorstep, an old ghostly woman with the longest grey hair looked at him; her face wizened … she silently pointed up to the sky with her fingers …’ The banshee is a Celtic legend who heralds death to families on the island of Ireland; we’ll be exploring her history, her myth – as well as some real-life encounters with this wailing entity. So, sit back, listen but take heed as you do – for this is episode 59 of the Haunted UK Podcast, and we're going to hear the call, the wail, the distant cry and of course: The Tale of the Banshee. Amelia lay awake for what seemed like hours, and with her windows closed but the shutters open, she decided to gaze out her window and admire the beautiful moonlit countryside. Amelia's bedroom window gave her an ideal view of the large lawn and the border of trees, which stood between Coglin Grange and the old graveyard; as her eyes scanned the silhouettes and shapes cast by the moonlight, she noticed that two small bright lights had now appeared in the treeline. These lights were moving through the trees and steadily towards the lawn … but what were they? ... Eye shine from an animal? ... Possibly a fox? … Amelia doubted it, as the lights appeared to be too high off the ground to be any animal … This is episode 58 of the Haunted UK Podcast, and in this episode, we're going in search of Vampires in the UK. Our bedroom was small and narrow, and the door was about six feet from the end of our queen-sized bed. The noise was thunderous, three knocks, rapid and loud. Bang, bang, bang!  ‘Did you hear that?’ I said, ‘Yep,’ Brian responded – his voice weird and bored. I had a moment of surprise and sat straight up in bed. Then it happened again. Bang, bang, bang! This time, I got up immediately and walked quickly to the door, figuring that one of the three kids, probably my seven-year-old daughter, was scared and needed me. I opened it and started to speak, then stopped when I saw no one was there. I stared into a large, well-lit open area that was completely empty. I could see the stairs ... also empty. My lizard brain hissed softly. ‘Run’ it said. This is episode 57 of the Haunted UK Podcast, and in this episode, we venture across the Atlantic to hear about a truly disturbing haunting … a Haunting in Oregon. Episode 55 – Beasts of the UK Eddie Bell was told about a series of tunnels which ran under the coke works, and it was these tunnels which Eddie felt could have been the ideal place for something like a large predatory animal to hide out in. Presenting something which sits within the realms of the paranormal or supernatural is naturally going to be hard to present to the scientific community with any type of conviction. Hauntings and their activity are very hit and miss. Sometimes, amazingly reliable and solid witnesses will see something that challenges their beliefs ... whereas other times, a scientific investigation will yield absolutely nothing. So, how do we balance this scale? Can we make a judgement? Join us on this episode, as we aim to draw a verdict on this ever-intriguing case. This is episode 54 of the Haunted UK Podcast – and in this episode of Season 6, we conclude our deep dive into one of the most famous poltergeist cases of all time. Episode 52 – Enfield Poltergeist (Part Two) ‘I was standing there looking at the house when all of a sudden, a couple of books came flying across and hit the window. It was so sudden. I heard the noise because it was so quiet, there was no traffic, and it made me jump. Then after a little while, I saw … Janet. I don’t know if there’s a bed underneath that window, but she was going up and down  … in a horizontal position, like as if someone had got hold of her legs and back and was throwing her up and down’. Episode 52 – Enfield Poltergeist Part One ‘On Thursday 1st September 1977 at approximately 1 a.m., I was on duty in my capacity as a policewoman, when I received a radio message to 284 Green Street, Enfield. I went to this address where I found a number of people standing in the living room. I was told by the occupier of this house that strange things had been happening during the last few nights and that they believed that the house was haunted.’ (WPC Carolyn Heeps) Do you have an interesting story which you'd be willing to share with the show? Episode 51 – Don’t Scream Welcome back to Season 6 – and what an episode to start with. This is Libby’s story – when it was first sent to us here at the show, it made us drop everything with fear and urgency – this was a story we had to ell. Episode 50 - Part 4 - Always Remember to Close the Door and other Listeners Stories The dog went everywhere with us, but there was no way we could get her into the van. It was as if she knew something was very wrong. It was a terrifying journey to the rubbish tip, and once we arrived, we energetically began throwing the items into the trash – but as quickly as we were throwing them away, people began pulling the items back out. Even when we tried to warn them about what these things were capable of … we were ignored. Do you have an interesting story which you'd be willing to share with the show? Episode 50 - Part 3 - The Mimic in the House and Other Listeners’ Stories I ran upstairs as I usually did but stopped dead on the top step ... as I heard an elderly woman's voice from behind me say ‘yoo-hoo!’. Episode 50 – Part 2 - Experiences of a Witch and other Listeners' Stories Doors began opening and closing by themselves. Loud banging noises were coming from downstairs, as well as the sounds of footsteps from someone who was clearly walking around the rooms below her bedroom … but it was what happen next, that truly frightened her. As clear as any voice she'd ever heard, someone said the name ‘Azazel’ ... the name from her nightmares, then, as she continued to talk to the Ouija board, the planchette began to move, rapidly spelling out the same name. Julie completely freaked out and threw the planchette across the room ... but made the huge mistake of not closing the session down ... not saying goodbye, so whatever was now in the house … was staying in the house. Episode 50 - Part 1 - The Sinister Flatmate and Other Listeners' Stories Worried she wasn't well, or something had happened to her, I got out of bed and ran down the stairs, calling her name and asking why she'd returned home so soon … only to find no one in the kitchen. Episode 49 - Terrifying Attachments While we were all talking, a horrible feeling swept over me ... we had to go back in there. All of our camera equipment was still inside, and we were also key holders, which meant that we were responsible for the building while we were there. We had to lock up and make sure the building was secure. We all agreed to wait a while and then go back to get our things, lock up and leave. After an hour or so, we cautiously walked back to the room to grab our equipment. As we stepped inside, we couldn’t believe what we saw. The place looked like it had been ransacked, with things thrown in all directions. Quickly, we gathered everything, locked the building, posted the keys through the manager’s office letterbox … and left. This is episode 49 of the Haunted UK Podcast, and in this episode, we'll hear from both James and Andrew … on their terrifying experiences with the paranormal – which are still very much … attached. Episode 48 – Tales from the Emergency Services Part Two ‘We let our control room know that we had hit a dead end – and that we would update them further when someone arrived. Not more than two minutes later, a tall slender gentleman, dressed in navy overalls, a tan undershirt and dirty unlaced boots slowly made his way up the stairs. Matt eagerly jumped up to introduce himself to – who seemed to be – the groundskeeper, as I updated our control room that someone had arrived to help …how wrong we were.’ This is episode 48 of the Haunted UK Podcast, and it's time to return to hear more stories from those in the emergency services and the military. Episode 47 – The Vertical Plane Part 2 ‘A little rattled, a little unnerved, Ken left to stay at East Green for the night with Debbie – as he left, he noticed a chalk etching on the wall, ‘WHAT ARE YOU SCARED OF? KEN DEB PETER?’ it read.  Ken and Debbie quickly made a grab for the door – the truth was he wasn’t sure who or what he was scared of and that was proving a problem. And although Ken may not have known what to be fearful of, he knew this fear was a thing, something tangible that stalked his floorboards, made footprints on his walls and was closing him down.  This is episode 47, and this is the Haunted UK Podcast where we return for the final installment of this strange tale, this vortex of time where different eras and lives are no longer chronological but are side by side and often collide as they all seek to live in what’s known as … The Vertical Plane.
