A season of high expectations for the Atlanta Hawks received its first litmus test on Saturday and unfortunately for Trae Young and his Atlanta Hawks, the returns were not good. As the club failed to challenge the Philadelphia 76ers at all in 122-94 thumping Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center.   Philly carried a 60-36 advantage over the Hawks in the paint, while also outpacing Atlanta by a 34-14 margin on fast-break points. Six different sixers finished in double figures, with Tobias Harris (22 and 11,) and Joel Embiid 19 points leading the way for a Sixers team that has now begun the season 4-2. Cam Reddish continued his solid opening to the NBA season, as the Duke product led the Hawks with 16 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the floor. Meanwhile, Trae Young and Bogdan Bogdonavich each had 13, with Young struggling from the floor once again in a 5 for 15 effort. For the Sixers, Saturday night was punctuated by the events of last season’s NBA playoffs, where the Hawks polished off the Sixers in 7 games, resulting in the infamous play of Ben Simmons passing up a wide-open dunk.  Some other news and notes, one of the NBA's newest rules which does not penalize a defender for an offensive player making contact on a shot was front and center in this one, as a visibly frustrated young received a technical foul after being whistled for a three-shot foul on Seth Curry. For the Hawks, not much else to say about this one as they close out the first month of the NBA calendar on a sour note. Next up, they’ll return home on Monday night as the Wizards come to town.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
