Description

On February 15, 2014, fitness guru Richard Simmons disappeared. He stopped teaching his regular exercise class at Slimmons, cut off his closest friends, and removed himself from the public eye after decades as one of the most accessible celebrities in the world. Nobody has heard from him - and no one knows why he left. Filmmaker Dan Taberski was a Slimmons regular and a friend of Richard’s. Missing Richard Simmons is Dan’s search for Richard - and the deeper he digs, the stranger it gets. Listen to the podcast The New York Times calls "a cultural phenomenon."

Headlong is Dan Taberski’s documentary podcast that explores the lives of overlooked people, moments and events in our culture. Season 2 is Surviving Y2K. Season 3 is Running From COPS.

How did 9/11 the day become 9/11 the idea? That question drives award-winning host Dan Taberski (Missing Richard Simmons, Running From COPS, The Line) to shift his focus to what happened on 9/12, and every day after that. 9/12 is a poignant, surprising, and surprisingly funny seven episode series about people who wake up on 9/12 having to navigate a new, radically altered world. A teenager gets caught up in an out-of-control conspiracy theory that he helped start. A Pakistani business owner finds hundreds of his Brooklyn neighbors are disappearing. Joke-writers at The Onion must figure out just how soon is “too soon”? 9/12 asks what it all means. We know what happened on 9/11. But what happened on 9/12 to alter our memory and our perspective forever? Listen to 9/12: wondery.fm/9_12_RichardSimmonsAll seven episodes of 9/12 are available to stream now on Amazon Music or Wondery+. Episodes will release weekly everywhere starting September 8th.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Listen Now: Hysterical

Dan Taberski's new show, Hysterical, investigates a mysterious illness that spreads among a group of high school girls in upstate New York. What is causing their sudden, often violent symptoms? Is there something in the water or inside the school? Or is it “all in their head?” The series examines the outbreak in LeRoy, NY, believed by some to be the most severe case of mass hysteria since the Salem Witch Trials. In his search for answers, Dan Taberski (9/12, Missing Richard Simmons, Running from Cops) explores other seemingly inexplicable events of the last few years – CIA officers being crippled with nausea and vertigo; cops OD’ing from exposure to fentanyl – and discovers they’re far more connected than we realize. From Wondery and Pineapple Street Studios, this 7-part series forces us to grapple with the mysteries of our own minds, and reckon with a contagion that we thought was long dead, but may be the defining disorder of our time.Follow Hysterical on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts. Interesting how much he loves Streisand but isn't aware (or doesn't care about?) the Streisand Effect.

His maid and manager killed him and split his money. When a cop comes out they have an actor on hand to play him. The officer doesn't know Richard, he just has an idea of who he is from television, he wouldn't be able to tell if its actually him or not.

This has been sitting in my subs forever... I just started playing it today, remembering my teenage Y2K panic!! I'm only on ep 1, but I love it already -it was the same instantaneous love I had for the Richard Simmons podcast! I love the way you Headlong guys tell a story!!

Wow.. The woman trying to mediate for the police is terrible. "do exactly what I say... ONLY answer with yes or no... How far away is she?"... Are you kidding me!? Haha she needs a different job..

Did it never occur to anyone to call someone in New Zealand on New year's Eve and ask them how it went? There was no need to nervously await the end as midnight approached.

I'm so grateful I found this podcast, it's humorous and gets you into some unique characters shoes! Season 1 taught me how much kindness can make a difference in people's lives and how many lives Richard Simmons touched. In season 2 characters who on the outside I would usually think were crazy, this podcast helped me get to understand and adore them. I enjoyed both seasons so much. Both were as original of storylines as you can get and I really enjoyed hearing the host's personal stories in the second season! Well done!

soooooooo glad he called out the guy for being a scammer. the same guy who took offense to it being called a "bug" but was calling it a "cancer" in his sales material.

only a few episodes deep but my gut is telling me that Richard is experiencing some kind of medical (and/or mental health) condition that has deteriorated in the last few years. I truly wish him happiness & comfort from *natural* supports - paid supporters do NOT provide the same love/care that we all require in order to be happy.

Thank you. I love that you respected Richard's privacy enough not to discuss his sexual orientation or gender identity. I grew up with Richard Simmons workout videos and my older sister and I used to use the Sweatin' to the Oldies videos. Not only did they have real people working out while they danced to the awesome music but they were great to adjust to your own pace.

I think Richard just wants to be left alone. So what if he's a recluse, it's his choice. It's nobody's business what he chooses to do with his life. Good, bad, or indifferent. The podcast was great in that it helped me to understand him a little better, but if I were Richard, I would be so angry. He's made it perfectly clear that he wants nothing to do with anybody except for his close circle. Let him go.

Upvote if you believe that the Mexican housekeeper is, and has been exerting undue influence over Simmons. Not by witchcraft, but by subtle dominence and control over every aspect of his life. The same way destructive cults manipulate people.
