OBGYN and social media star Dr. Jennifer Lincoln is passionate about providing authentic and medically accurate information about sex, sexuality, and sexual health. In addition to being an inspiring physician, on Instagram and Tik Tok she debunks myths and answers burning questions. The human body is complicated enough as is, but then we have all these cultural and societal concerns to keep in mind as well. Body image, shame, male vs. female bodies, and gender identity are all important conversations we need to get better at having. Dr. Lincoln has great ideas on where to start.

MIT Lecturer and Associate Director of MIT D-Lab, Libby Hsu spoke with us about her passion for humble technologies involving water and sanitation. MIT D-Lab is a space where she and her students are dedicated to bringing equitable sanitation options to communities around the world that don’t have access to modern amenities. They’re also dedicated to having conversations about sewage and sanitation in a way that is productive and approachable, to fight stigma and address the relationship between healthy sanitation practices and our physical and mental health.
McKenna and Kate got on board and are ready to join Sean and Libby in the good fight for those in the United States and around the globe with less than desirable sanitation infrastructure.

Force Blue is the only non-profit organization in the world that retrains and redeploys former Special Operations veterans and military-trained combat divers to assist in marine and coral reef conservation efforts and whose mission is to restore lives and the planet. It is made up of some incredible humans, three of whom we spoke with today: co-founder of Force Blue, Jim Ritterhoff, scientist and author of Blue Mind, J. Nichols, and retired Navy Seal Master Chief, Steve Gonzalez. All three of these environmental activists and advocates are part of an incredible project that was highlighted during two consecutive Super Bowls in the documentary 100 Yards of Hope. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have spoken with them today to share our joint passion for conservation, service, health, and healing.

Renowned political journalist, advocate and author of WE’RE NOT BROKEN: Changing the Autism Conversation, Eric Garcia, discusses his life-long journey with autism and highlights the social and policy gaps that exist when supporting those on the spectrum. He explains how systems were not built with neurodiversity in mind and got us thinking further about how environment impacts those with higher support needs including those on the spectrum, autistic people of color and those in the LGBTQ community.

Health scientist, social justice activist, and founder of Black Millennials for Flint, Michelle Mabson is a dedicated and mission-driven leader. She joined the Earthjustice healthy communities team shortly after leaving the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where she saw firsthand how policy threatened essential health protections for communities, especially low-income and communities of color. As a Staff Scientist at Earthjustice, Michelle gets to hold polluters and the government accountable and works to ensure that communities are protected from pollution and toxic chemicals. As an activist, Michelle serves as the co-founder and chief advocacy officer for Black Millennials 4 Flint, the nation’s first and only grassroots nonprofit environmental justice and civil rights organization fighting to eradicate harm from lead exposure across the country. Founded in the wake of the Flint Water Crisis, BM4F works to empower people to take action and advocate against the lead crisis plaguing many Black and Brown communities.
McKenna, Kate and Sean are surprised by how much they didn’t know about the ripple effects of the Flint Crisis.

Politician, attorney, and environmentalist Heather Toney joins us this week for a powerful conversation on clean air and community. Her lifetime of service has provided communities the chance to discuss and address environmental injustices, and she herself has accomplished a lot of firsts - one being the first African American, first female, and youngest mayor of Greenville, Mississippi! She then moved on to the EPA, where she was appointed Regional Administrator by President Obama. Since then, she has become a senior advisor at Mom’s Clean Air Force and is currently serving as an environmental justice liaison for the Environmental Defense Fund. She’s been awarded a number of accolades and titles, one of our favorites being Essence Magazine’s “one of the most remarkable women in the world,” which is the title we would give her if we could choose! So you can imagine how beyond thrilled we were to sit down with a dedicated contributor to environmental justice and such a powerful conversationalist.
McKenna, Kate and Sean contemplate what it means to get involved in their own communities.

To kick off our environmental health series, we had an amazing conversation with Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist, Andrew Bryant of Climate & Mind - an organization dedicated to education and support on the topic of eco-anxiety. Andrew reminds us how crucial it is to recognize the signs of eco-anxiety and preserve our relationship between the environment and our overall wellbeing. He helps clients cope with concerns involving the climate emergency and also wants us to understand the beauty around us and how "exposure to nature and connection to our natural environment facilitates health while making us more satisfied, happy and healthy." Andrew helped us untangle the concerns that many of us face when deciding to be parents and bringing another person into this world or the worries associated with leaving our children a place on this planet.
Sean, McKenna, and Kate discuss their own ecological concerns and environmental grief.

Dr. Adam Stern is a Doctor of Psychiatry and author of the book, COMMITTED: Dispatches from a Psychiatrist in Training, a memoir detailing his experience as a psychiatry resident at Harvard Medical School. He dives into ways we might support someone with depression, shares the difficulties and gifts that came from his 4-year residency and explains the hope he has for the future of physicians.

To continue our depression series, we are chatting with the most wonderful guest, Trevor Leeper. He is a mental health advocate in the LGBTQ community and has a magnificent story to share with us about the struggle he faced coming out in a religious household with a family that didn't quite understand what he was going through or support him in the way he needed. Now, he’s in a wonderful place and caring for the community and others who are in similar circumstances in the way he wish he had been cared for. Trevor is such a light, and he inspires us through his example of being someone going through dark times, questioning their worth, but ultimately making it through the other side stronger and more whole.
The team talks about times when they felt less than supported and gushes over Trevor’s strength and accomplishments.

In this episode of the depression series, Alenis shares her story of resilience, advocacy, and bravery. She started her journey as a young professional studying medicine in Argentina, forced to leave the program when she was diagnosed with an illness that spiraled, leaving her with many more years of chronic illness and the mental health struggles that come along with that. Though through it all, she has found happiness, fulfillment, love, and purpose, reminding us that a depression diagnosis is difficult, it's valid, but it’s something that can be better understood and managed. While everyone's story is different, hearing Alenis' experience reminded us that not all illnesses look alike, and even if you are suffering from an invisible illness, there can be better days ahead. You are not alone!
McKenna, Sean, and Karen talk about how they’ve learned to support each other over the years.

We had such an inspirational conversation with former Sgt Royal Marine Commando, father of four, author, coach, and CEO of The Man Coach, James Boardman. He gets real about family, PTSD, mental and emotional health and his ability to turn passion into purpose. He helps men suffering from identity loss find their true purpose, something that he experienced through his journey with depression. While much of his experience surrounded his time in and immediately after the military, the themes of feeling burdensome and not knowing where you quite fit in is something that many of us have experienced at one time or another and is the reason his wisdom is so important to those, especially in the military, who might not have the support that they need.

We had the most wonderful, positive, and inspiring conversation with Rachael Chisenhall. She is a licensed therapist and coach who helps people rewrite their story, heal from trauma & beliefs holding them back, and have better relationships. We love her instagram, @therapywithrach as a great place to find resources and spot-on information about mental health. In this episode, she shares wisdom to help us better understand and support those with depression. This is a great place to start when understanding depression or reflecting on your own mental health.

We're kicking off our depression series with two wonderful women in science and research. Dr. Bonnie Kaplan and Dr. Julia Rucklidge spoke with us about the connection between micronutrients and mental health, their incredible work and their new book, The Better Brain: Overcome Anxiety, Combat Depression, and Reduce ADHD and Stress with Nutrition. They have so much experience and practical wisdom to share not only about the importance of what we put in our bodies for optimal brain function but how to be curious about the education we receive about nutrition and the importance of questioning where our food comes from - down to the soil.
The team is mind-blown the entire episode and revisits the importance of JERF!

New York Times columnist and author of The Price You Pay For College: An Entirely New Road Map for the Biggest Financial Decision Your Family Will Ever Make, Ron Lieber takes us through the emotional, spiritual, and financial journey associated with choosing a college or university. What is worth paying for when it comes to higher education? After this transparent and practical conversation, we discovered that the answer is largely based on one's own family values. When faced with, what feels like, a high-stakes investment, it is important to first unravel the emotions and baggage we hold onto as well as educate ourselves on the mysterious world of financial aid and merit aid packages.
While this decision can feel daunting, understanding what we are paying for, and why, can lead to a confident decision for each member of the family. As always, we encourage you to have these conversations early and often.
McKenna and Sean share their own decision-making along their educational journeys.
