Hen News introduces Sue Mazengarb, our airway specialist nurse. Sue has been in the department for many years, and worked as a ward nurse and ward sister before taking up her current specialist nurse role.Sue tells us about her role, which she started from scratch. She has even been mentioned in the CQC report! It is great to see the support that she offers to patients both in and out of hospital.Sue tells us what she does as part of our team, and how she looks after airway patients. She emphasises the importance of team work and collaboration, and how this helps us all work better together for patient benefit.
Editor interviews Kate aka Nurse Doyle. Kate tells us about her travels across the world, visiting other hospitals including in Africa and USA, as part of a scholarship to explore how nurses abroad work.Kate discusses the different skills that nurses in different countries develop, including developing country nurses that have learned to work with few resources, and USA nurses working amongst fantastic equipment.Kate tells us about visiting MAGNET hospitals in USA, and how the MAGNET approach facilitates good staff engagement and morale. She recounts stories of how finances affect USA health care, how insurance companies control clinical practice, and the mountains of paperwork that come with that.She finishes by emphasising the importance of tolerance, inclusivity and diversity.
