Stacey so desperately wanted to breastfeed her new born Rex. She wanted to feel the skin to skin relationship and the wholesome bond of nourishing her baby with her milk. But Stacey discovered that something wasn't quite right. And as time went by, breastfeeding became harder and more painful. Her milk flow became interrupted, her breasts became engorged and felt like they were on fire. Stacey felt terrible when she decided to stop her attempts to feed, and has always blamed herself. But in this episode, with Kerry from La Leche League, who's volunteers help mothers like Stacey with breastfeeding difficulties, we discover that things may not be as they seem. What if there was a perfectly reasonable explanation for what went wrong? Imagine the relief Stacey would feel. You can hear this incredible emotional and fascinating exchange between Stacey and Kerry from La Leche League right now. My twins are 29 now and yet I'm driving on the motorway sobbing listening to this. I had so many of the same experiences as you and when one twin didn't latch on and lost weight a midwife accused me of deliberately trying to starve my child by insisting on breast feeding to uphold my "middle class ideals!" So I had one twin who fed and the other didn't. The guilt was overwhelming and I feel it's permanently affected my relationship with him. I felt he'd rejected me and I hated it that everyone else was feeding him while I was feeding the other twin. it still haunts me now. I've got so much from this. Thank you so much. Alison xx

Walking my dog with a stupid goofy face, laughing at you two. Just listening to your experiences has made me remember things from having my 3 kids that I'd completely forgotten, so thank you for that 😊

I feel the pain of bleeding nipples even on day 1, luckily I was still in hospital and after constant feeding and a screaming baby that wouldn't sleep a support worker in the maternity ward suggested combination feeding as my baby was 9lb 12 and was desperately hungry and wouldn't last 3days for my milk to come in. He downed a bottle and finally stopped crying and slept. so thankful I was able to get support

Wow this has to be the rawest and most realistic depiction of what early motherhood is really like ❤ love your honesty Stacey and have welled up too many times to count. Every new mum should listen to this! And I'm currently pregnant with #2 and you are really helping managing my expectations this time around... just because I've done it all before doesnt mean it is going to be easy! 😂 x

Oh my goodness, this made me cry so many times. Hearing your struggles, listening to the beautiful friendship between you and Nadia, hearing the way you are so there for each other and all women. It was such a moving, educational, inspiring and beautiful podcast. I'm a mother of 7 and breastfed them all with little problems but hearing this podcast really opened my eyes to the struggles so many women go through. This episode really has me wanting to be prepared for if my kids have babies and have difficulties if they choose to breastfeed. To know that it's not about pushing through the pain but that there is help available and mostly to just be there emotionally. P.s I'm totally with you Stacey on keeping people away from the tiny newborns. And I'm sure Nadia is right, that Rex will teach you so many things about yourself and help you continue to be the great mother you are. x

I needed to listen to this today. Thank you Stacey! I have really struggled still 12 weeks later with feeding and people wanting to feed him and I didn't want anyone near me or him. I felt guilty for that too! I remember calling my mum like you did Nadia relating that exact conversation. I just wanted to keep my baby. thank you for speaking out about this stuff ♥️

This really made me emotional. I too felt the only way to stop people coming near my baby was to breastfeed. I freaked out from about 6 months pregnant about anyone holding my baby. I was very lucky to manage to successfully feed for 14 months, but it wasn't without its issues, my daughter lost too higher a percentage of her birthweight so I was bordering on going back into hospital, I faught and faught and in the end a midwife came round each day and weighed her and as long as she gained something we could stay at home. I prayed that she wouldn't poo before the midwife arrived, every bit of weight counts 😂. It took me months to get over not wanting people holding her and definitely used feeding as an excuse, just so I didn't say no and hurt others feelings.
