In this episode we have the pleasure of interviewing Eric Degenfelder on the show, for the past 4 years has been the CEO of UC Coactings and is in transition into his next CEO role. In this episode we have the pleasure of interviewing Michele Knox on the show, and Michelle is the CEO of WindSolar USA. In 2008, Michelle formed WindSolarUSA, Inc. to provide all market segments an opportunity to be more sustainable and have a level of energy self-sufficiency.  She received her training through the Midwest Renewable Energy Association in Custer, WI and she is a Certified Site Assessor for both Solar Photovoltaics and Solar Thermal.  She has completed over 300 photovoltaic projects ranging in size from 1kW to 160kW, various LED lighting and several wind and solar pool heating projects. She has written and been awarded multiple grants from USDA Rural Development’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and Rural Business Development Grant (RBDG), as well as ICECF to fund 1kW+ educational solar installations to (13) schools across the state of IL, a children's museum, and a zoo. In this episode we have the pleasure of interviewing Tim Blaisdell on the show, and Tim is the CEO of Pith Products. Before taking on the role of CEO at Pith in 2023, Tim has spent most of his career focussed in the aerospace industry, vast experiences ranging from Managing Director of International Business at Pratt & Whitney to a number of other C-level executive positions at a number of other aerospace companies. In this episode we have the pleasure of interviewing Justin Quinn on the show, and Justin is the CEO of Focus on Machining. Justin began his professional career in the Air Force where he spent 6 years as an Aircraft Mechanic on the C-17. As a flight mechanic he traveled the world with a toolbox and a laptop and ensured the aircraft remained operational in obscure locations like Afghanistan, Iraq, and even Antarctica.  He then separated from the Air Force to pursue a Bachelor’s degree full time at the University of Northern Colorado, where he graduated with honors from the Monfort College of Business with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance. After graduation he did a few internships in finance but ended up with Centennial Bank where I worked for over five years as a Commercial Banker. While working at the bank he also attended the University of Colorado at Denver where he received his MBA. With a strong interest in manufacturing, in 2016, he acquired Focused on Machining. Currently the President of Focused on Machining, he manages the day-to-day operations, business development, and strategic planning for the business. Since he has owned the company, they have grown over 300% in the last four years with the addition of many new customers and pieces of equipment. Their primary growth sectors have come from the aerospace, defense and medical industries. In this episode we have the pleasure of interviewing John Brink on the show, and John is the CEO of Brink Group of Companies, which is 10+ companies with combined annual revenues in the hundreds of millions. John A. Brink was born in 1940 in Nazi-occupied Holland during the Second World War.  John’s mother was left to raise her three kids alone when their father was drafted into the Dutch Army. They wouldn’t know if he was dead or alive until the liberation of their village, by Canadian soldiers, on April 12, 1945. This was the exact moment when John determined he would one day move to Canada - the land of his heroes.  John’s other lifelong dream of owning a sawmill came to fruition 10 years later in 1975 with the creation of Brink Forest Products, which has since become North America’s leading secondary manufacturer of value-added wood products. At 83, John continues to succeed in his role as President and CEO of the Brink Group of Companies and 10+ other companies.  In recognition of John’s lifelong achievements, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Laws Degree by the University of Northern British Columbia. Less than a month later, he also received the Order of B.C. in June 2019, the highest achievement a civilian in BC, Canada can achieve. John shares with us his secrets of how he has been through multiple recessions, and how it is the same recipe for success for all of them, and it is quite a different recipe than during normal business expansion periods.  These are periods where most companies are shrinking and staying small, John is looking for opportunities to acquire other companies as they are typically in trouble.  More on this in the podcast. In this episode we have the pleasure of interviewing Kyle Ewing on the show, and Kyle is the CEO of TerraSlate Paper. Kyle Ewing transitioned from a corporate career to entrepreneurship in 2014 after founding Guerrilla Tags ID Systems, which he exited in 2015. He now leads TerraSlate Paper, producing waterproof paper for various industries, including the military and biotech firms. Kyle collaborates with entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in tech and renewable resources, leveraging his experience in supply chain management, analytics, and business operations. Before entrepreneurship, Kyle was a Senior Supply Chain Manager at Brightstar Corporation, focusing on supply chain optimization and data analytics, particularly in the wireless phone industry. He has also worked in procurement, marketing analysis, and business consulting. Kyle shares with us 3 absolute golden nuggets with us about why his business has been so successful.  The first is that he has been able to craft his desired culture by using a psychometric tool called “The Culture Index”.  This tool has allowed them to identify the exact personality and behaviors that they need for every position in the company.  Next they then have potential candidates take the test and it very accurately identifies who would be a best fit for this position, working with the others on their team and their overall culture. Next he shares how critical having a formal operating system has been for them. This has allowed them to have aligned goals, initiatives, structured meetings and KPI’s for each division and team member.  This has led to continuous improvement and accountability across the board. In this episode we have the pleasure of interviewing Justin Moore as a guest on the show, Justin is the CEO of Mile Marker Industries.  Justin has over 15 years of management experience in various sectors, much of which in the automotive industry, a growth-oriented and innovation-driven leader who is passionate about delivering value to customers and stakeholders. Justin was just recently named CEO of Mile Marker in July of 2023. One of the Reps of the company was quoted as saying “"With Justin at the helm, we are excited to revitalize our product line with innovative offerings while staying true to our core values of unmatched reliability and superior performance." In this episode Justin shares with us how he transitioned into the CEO role.  The first step was to NOT do anything but observe for the first 90 days.  The key here was to not move too quick. Justin then shares with us the “5 Whys” in any change management.  Ask the first why, whatever answer you get is still not the answer.  Ask why again.  Do that 5 layers deep and by then you SHOULD be getting close to the root cause of the issue. Justin also shares the importance of failing fast and learning early.  He talks about how A/B testing has been critical in their ability to learn and grow quickly.  Eliminate the ideas that are not working and double down on those that are. Oscar is a young CEO looking to keep improving and pushing the limits on what he believes is possible.  Helping people with their manufacturing needs specifically in the additive manufacturing space with superior technology and software over their competitors. Focused on lead time, Customer Service, and Cost.  Oscar Co-founded Jawstech in 2017. Oscar shares with us the importance of utilizing technology to differentiate yourself in whatever space you are in.  Oscar is a front runner in his space by developing a software whereby potential clients can get a very accurate online quote for their 3D manufacturing projects. Oscar goes on to tell us that finding the right people has been his key to success.  And his responsibilities as the CEO is to ensure that they are trained, proper expectations set and are properly motivated.  Oscar also tells us how it is just as important to say NO to, as it is important to say YES to.  A company must stay focused on their core mission and vision and not chase squirrels.
