Oh To Be A Dog - S3E133

Episode 133 of the "High Regard Show," "Oh to Be a Dog," has gone to the dogs! We talk to Shannon Sardella Arnold, a lifelong dog lover who founded dog-walking and dog-sitting service Oh to Be a Dog in Los Angeles in 2010. She has since expanded the business to New York City — and added wedding, proposal and engagement services to meet the ever-growing trend of including your dog in your wedding. Shannon explains the services that Oh to Be a Dog provides for your big day, which includes pet care, pick up, drop off, assistance for those super-cute photos and more, and some valuable things to keep in mind to make sure your dog has just as good a day as you should. Because Tom thought — and had to share the fact — that he initially thought Shannon was in the business of putting on weddings for dogs with Oh to Be a Dog, we had to skip “The POTSie,” but fear not, the segment will be back next week to cover all the "joys" of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Our rescue pit bull/studio manager Kona may not be in a wedding anytime soon, but you can still follow her adorable antics via @TheKonaPersona on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Fantasy Island - S3E132

In Episode 132, “Fantasy Island,” we talk about our recent move to Roosevelt Island, the two-mile long oasis that is part of Manhattan, New York, but yet is worlds away. We share a brief history of the East River sliver that was once known as Welfare Island — and Lunatic Island — as well as some of our favorite spots so far to catch not only amazing views of Midtown but also our breath. The conversation continues in “The POTSie,” in which Tom talks about how moving to Roosevelt Island will enable him to now think about adding a weight regime to his exercise routine — and how long he has to wait to see a real POTS specialist here in the city. Need a dose of cute in your life? S3E131 - Peculiar Patriot

Hey, remember us? We're back after a hiatus for Episode 131, “Peculiar Patriot," in which we speak to Liza Jessie Peterson, writer and star of "The Peculiar Patriot," a scathing and funny commentary on the U.S. prison system. Before Liza takes the show out on the road, "The Peculiar Patriot" will have a run at the National Black Theatre of Harlem starting July 11. Liza, who spent two decades working with inmates at Rikers Island, tells us how "The Peculiar Patriot" came about, what it was like performing it in front of inmates and if she ever thinks we will see real prison reform in the U.S. In “The POTSie,” Tom talks about how detrimental the high temperatures that have been plaguing New York City are affecting his system — and sounds off on some online trolls offering their disproving two cents about medical marijuana. In Episode 130, “Trusted Housesitters,” we speak to Angela Laws of Trusted Housesitters, which is a bit like Airbnb but with pets. Angela tells us how she got her start with the company that's taken her around the world to stay with a variety of pets in the comfort of their own home while their owners travel. She tells us how the yearly membership works and how TrustedHouseitters benefits pets, owners and especially its sitters, because what is better than traveling the world to stay with dogs? Or cats, horses or something even more exotic if that's your bag, baby? In “The POTSie,” Tom talks about how week one of being on dronabinol is going (spoiler: not good!) and shares some snacks from his childhood that he's resurfaced that might be good for others who suffer from POTS syndrome. The Firmest Friend - S3E115

In Episode 115 of the “High Regard Show,” “The Firmest Friend,” we interview Andrew Fixell, first-time filmmaker behind “The Firmest Friend.” Andrew tells us how this documentary about four homeless youths and their relationship with their pit bulls came about, debunking the stigma of the breed and what the future holds for him. Because we went on a bit of a bender about that time our car died at a most inopportune time (Christmas Eve) in a very unfortunate location (George Washington Bridge), Tom won’t have “The POTSie” this week, but don’t you worry, it’ll be right here next week … err, year. Speaking of, happy 2018, listeners! We made it (didn’t we?!) Thank you for another great year of listening to HRS. We look forward to piercing your eardrums all through the new year. Yours in High Regard, Nikki & Tom PS: Nikki wanted to use “Shake & Bake” as our salutation, but Tom thought it was more of a mantra than a sign off, so there’s that. In “The POTSie,” Tom's gives a bit of a throwback to "Roly Poly Roarty" by talking about his luxurious locks — and getting out of the house for something that wasn't a walk with Kona or a doctor's appointment.
